Robinson and Yedlin would be starting higher up the pitch. Brazil would put up 4 against a narrow US formation.
I do not think Altidore is worse than Wood. I think Bradley would play better when competing for a spot. As would most of the 2018 cycle players. More competition is usually always better. Making decisions based on emotional reasoning is not a great strategy most of the time. I felt the same as most of us about the players, but sometimes stepping back a couple feet to reassess allows for a better judgment to move forward. We just plainly are not good enough to exclude players who failed under a bad situation. We are not a top 15 team in terms of available talent in players or coaching.
They played okay, not bad at all. I was expecting worst since it was against the same Brazil that just played together a few months ago. Other than the penalty which should have not counted they had some glimpses and safes that show that this team can do better. And please no more Bobby Wood for the mean time. Give others opportunities instead. Samething with Julian Green.
My a-team would be: -----------------Wood--------- ---Picault-----------Puslic------Nagbe--- ---------------Adams----McKennie------ -Robinson-------------------------------Yedlin---- --------------Brooks--------Miazga--- ----------------------Steffen------
Doesn't help enough, in my opinion. You cannot just cross the ball for your ONE forward to get onto, and expect goals. Perhaps Brazil would score more. But we're talking about formations that could offer more in attack, and yours does not, meanwhile mine does. Arguably, your 5-4-1 is even more defensive, so how were we going to muster attacks with it? Oh good, Yedlin/Robinson is 1 v 1 with no outlets, hooray? You can't beat Fabinho/Felipe Luis just by running by them with kick-and-chase. IDK, I just don't think the answer to our attacking woes is "add in another CB!"...
541 offers more in attack by pushing the fullbacks higher. Outlets would be the mids and forward. Your formation does nothing, given the personnel.
the speed of this game was very slow...brazil was playing 60-70% of their strength...we presented no threat to them, and they were playing ball in the park.
Outlets were the same mids today. You have changed absolutely nothing by (effectively) substituting Trapp for a CB.
Yeah, and we had no trouble getting the FB's the ball while pushed upfield today, so your "change" does jack squat. That's my point. You haven't changed the reasons that we didn't have any offense. Which were our forwards and midfield.
Picault? that is an interesting choice. I think he is tons better than Ariola but Picault is 27 and never played for the national team.
The Mexico kids did pretty well, results aside. I saw the US game and I felt they were less impressive than the Mexico kids. They're just friendlies.
I wasn't watching, were there any Hee-Haw's heard from the crowd when he came on? I just wish for one guy in a donkey mask wearing a Zardes jersey.
weren't you looking for the team to improve...they did...so davey is the guy he has to be they have all this time and effort into davey boy and his 'system' why start over now....or better yet why start over in three months.
no but starting four defenders, three dmids and a guy as on the wing who started as a defender in his last club match...isn't exactly playing a strategy worth watching. I mean literally when the goal in a friendly is to not give up five goals..its not a useful exercise.
Hard to take much away from this game except that bradley is horrible at corners. Brazil never exerted themselves and basically strolled the last 30.
We can always rely on death, taxes and a penalty for Brazil when we play them in a friendly. It seems like that always happens for some reason. Other than that I don't have much to say. I was not expecting a victory and honestly the score was much closer than I thought it would be based on the talent discrepancy between the two teams.
