Yeah we can't give him a hand or elsw he'll take the whole arm and he'll act like he deserves it. Better to cut all ties with him.
It's sad that we hired STY in the first place because it's hard to sign a domestic manager after the WC as STY will always be "next in line" so to speak.

A few months from now, some of you will say KFA should've gotten Vahid, Flores or Bilic when they were opened for negotiation. Just like how you guys are saying about Senol Gunes now. :whistling:

Not Flores. It was impossible for us to get him in the first place.

Not impossible, he was willing to compromise for a few things but KPG screwed him over. And I'm starting to believe the 'rumors' regarding choosing KNT over Mexico NT was actually true. He had his sights on us.

He actually wasn't that bad in Greece. He was actually 7 points clear at the top of table in late March with Olympiacos before getting sacked for saying stuff that board didn't like. The team went on to win the league because he put the team at the top of the table before getting sacked. He also took the team to semi-final of domestic cup and round 16 of Europa.

Olympiacos ended up 3rd place in the league a year after he left and is now playing in Europa qualifers.

As for his stint in China, you got to give him benefit of the doubt. He didn't manage some mega billionaire clubs with foreign players like Hulk. He managed a team that just came up from the second division and was a relegation candidate from the get-go. From what I read at Korean website, he didn't get enough fund to buy players and change the team. Even Mourinho can't change a team like that in such a short span of time. Chon

One postive from his stint in China is that he beat Stielike with a relegation candidate team lol.

Honestly I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt. Can't judge him without having him manage for us.

I thought Paulo Bento's Portugal were not bad at Euro 2012. Solid defensively, some attacking options. I had no idea his CV had gone so downhill though...

What is the fans' opinion of him? I heard majority are fairly negative.

Ok so I've gotten some insight from reddit:
    https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/com...ll_be_the_new_south_koreas_national/?sort=new
"As olympiacos’ fan, he is not good. Team was playing from the wings and with a lot of long balls, most of the chances were created by free kicks, and we didn’t create a lot of anyway. Of course we didn’t have a great roster, but still the team did not show any good signs. Defensively we were slow, we were doing a lot of mistakes and the opponent scored a lot from long balls, even if we had tall defenders. Only good thing he did it was that he gave a lot of chances to the young players, I don’t know how helpful can that be in a national team. Maybe if he will be evolved in academies and stuff, the future of your national team can be good, but I can’t see current national team doing better than the last few years."

I guess he likes to play a Korean style football which can be taken as good and bad.

    "
He did a great Euro 2012, though. We only lost in the semis on pens against Spain. Tactically he is above average, but his posture/demeanour tends to ignite some locker room conflicts. Every player who doesn't fit his idea of professionalism will have problems and he will always go for a "role model" athlete, even if he is a worse footballer than the star of the team.

He is the kind of guy who would even bench Maradona just to play some nobody, to teach the Argentinian a lesson."

From what I've been hearing, he's not good at managing players and dealing with FA, he creates drama behind the scene which is his biggest problem thus leading to sacking. Might be a problem because he's in a different country with different customs and norms. But Korean players are pretty well-behaved I'll say (minus LSW probably).

"Portugal have the best University in terms of (Football managers coachs). And he was one of the best in this course... Yes we have great managers right now, but he's not one of the best Portuguese managers. It's a very high risk bet on him. But we never know, different perspectives can work.

    But ********, Paulo Bento...

...Fail in all last jobs, was mediocre/average in National Portuguese team, fail in Cruzeiro (Brazil), fail in Olympiacos and fail in Chongqing...

..for me, right now he give a bad name to Portuguese managers."

In other note, maybe we should have similar university that can chun out good managers? lol.

Overall he's a mediocre manager for a mediocre team.

Why are we over-spending and over-committing ourselves to Bento? Mediocrity breeds more mediocrity.

Would you rather have Julian Naglesmann as our head coach?

When you picked up trash from a dumpster thinking that you found gold, when it actually was just a piece of trash. Yeah. Instincts always win.

This is my biggest concern. He's getting paid too much and a 4 year contract...

But about the mediocrity comment, I dpn't think it's the managers' fault that we are mediocre, considering most NT managers have mediocre resume. If you go through all the managers in this WC, there aren't that many managers that managed big teams before their NT tenure (Didier Deschamps and Roberto Martinez). All the other managers were mostly domestic (some not even the best domestic manager like Portugal, Spain, probably France, Argentina, Germany, and England), young/inexperienced, long-term domestic managers, mediocre foreign managers that's been in the international football scene.
I think our mediocrity stems from the overall situation with Korean football.

Tactically speaking, I hope we start playing 4-2-3-1 with Lee Kangin as a playmaker. Hopefully he can improve asap.
Maybe this might be a good starting lineup:
    Ji Dongwon
    Son Heungmin-Lee Kangin-Lee Seungwoo
    DM-Kim Jungmin
    FB-CB-CB-FB
    Cho Hyunwoo.

Personally I kind of what a more goal scoring CF that can help SHM with scoring goals but I think JDW will be a good option until we find that CF. This is true especially if JDW gets minute.

Kim Jungmin I hope he can break into Salzburg asap. I have big hopes for him actually.

We need to figure out a DM that can play with Kim Jungmin but I can't figure out who.

FBs I'm really confused about. CBs are less dire, I think we have some options with players. The manager needs to figure out what works I guess.

I'm as disappointed about Bento's appointment as anyone, but to play devil's advocate:

In regards to Bento's performance at WC 2014, keep in mind Ronaldo was coming into the tournament injured.

The team's reliance on Ronaldo? Well if any one of us was managing Portugal at that time period, we all would've felt the pressure to make Ronaldo the center of the team. The former Real Madrid player was (still is) the biggest player in the world and a hero to his country. Maybe Bento, being a Portuguese, couldn't withstand the pressure to assemble a Ronaldo-centric team.

Maybe now that he is coaching in a foreign country, he will snub media pressure and be more "objective".

Other than that, I can't find a way to defend his downward career trajectory. Hey, but I recently read an article that Bento's Chongqing looked better in his last day.

Regarding Bento's recent "bad" performance, this is a good read if you can understand Korean at advanced level.

I know he's not Quique, but I think it's too early to judge him.

What a terrible, terrible appointment. I don't need someone on FMKorea analyzing his win rate as I can already tell by orders of magnitude that he's shite.

They once told me that the rado will stab you in the back out of nowhere. Sounds about right. But maybe your problem isn't the good old 뒷통수 but simple logic. I used to think it was reading comprehension or you being toogay but I think you've gotten an issue with intelligence. Well, maybe your problem is all of the above.
