Kortrijk lost pretty big but his teammates praised him after the game. He was the best defender despite having to fill in at rightback.

He's playing centre back this time.

Alright, cap him before Ireland does.

But question, does Ireland have any players outside of the British Isles? I remember 1 was in Russia for a while.

Let's not. We have double-digit better cb's in the pool better than him. He has mediocre size, athleticism, and anticipation from what I've seen (yes, I've watched much of this game too, he's a half-step behind on clearances and interventions). Solid skill and confidence. Defender who is not going to kill you because of those things and he's sensible. I guess that's what he's bringing to the table. But that's just not the type of player we're going to regret losing.

We can't just cap any player who threatens to play for another country. That needs to be determined on a case-by-case basis. Said at the time should have taken it seriously w/ JoGo and Bjorn. This would be like losing MOF or Parkhurst. Those precious experimental caps ahead of official comps need to be saved for the likes Miazga, EPB, Glad, Parker, CCV, Zim, etc.

I was a tad sarcastic on that. I think we're perfectly suited with what we have. I don't mind if Ireland goes for him. Best of luck to him. He seems ambitious.

    MOF? whose that?

Although I mostly agree with the sentiment, I think it probably wouldn't hurt to bring him in to Euro-based camps to take a look, certainly.

We've seen with BMJ that sometimes people break out. He's at the least good depth, plays at a higher level than MLS, and is only 23. The fact that he's already in Europe and has access to an Irish passport means that he's got more opportunities to go up the European league ladder.

To put it in perspective, he's 8 months older than MM and playing 1 step below his current Ligue 1 level. That ain't bad, especially considering he's already surpassed or equaled the club heights of MOF and Parkhurst respectively.

I wouldn't be too broken up if he switches, because he plays at the deepest spot in the pool, but I don't think him being good enough for Ireland means he's not good enough for us, and I'd prefer we try to bring more rather than fewer talented up-and-comers to camps.

Parkhurst played in the Bundesliga and for the Danish champions. Hines-Ike has in no way surpassed Parkhurst at the club level.

EDIT: I forgot how irrelevant that Bundesliga stint was. Half retract the statement, but I'd take the Danish champions over Kortrijk.

Never said he did, it's an ability analog, and you're adding to my point. A long way to go before he's the type of player we would regret missing out on.

To be fair, Parkhurst only played 2 games in the Bundesliga. Not sure if he rode the bench for the others.

But, yeah he did find success in Denmark. I don't recall if he ever stood out or anything. Same with Clarence Goodson. He had some individual success in Norway and then moved to Denmark. Captained the 2nd/3rd biggest club there for a bit.

I agree with you, I was responding to the post after yours. :p

Parkhurst was (is still, I guess) a very solid defender who contributed exactly zero moments that I remember with the national team.

Parkhurst got two caps for Augsburg once. And Denmark is not a better league than Belgium.

Maybe Brendan will only get two caps in Belgium, in which case his "level" will be that of the Swedish league at Orebero, but I doubt it.

If we are counting Parkhurst's 2 caps, we'd have to consider Matt Miazga and Hyndman as EPL club players, or Julian Green as a Bundesliga player. We should not do so.

    1) I already edited my post.
    2) You can't dismiss Parkhurst's 2 Bundesliga appearances and then say that Hines-Ike has a better club/league pedigree than Parkhurst based on his...2 Belgian league appearances.

    I didn't say better.

I'm saying that it's basically equal, by playing for a mid-table team in a better league.

Like how Yedlin playing for Newcastle (before promotion) was basically equal to his loan to Sunderland.

Yeah, I never rated him. But he's def reliable and has boosted Columbus and now Atlanta.

Down 1-0 after 2.5 minutes. Brendan not at fault for the goal

    Edit:
Down 2-0 after 7 minutes. The second goal was almost a carbon copy of the first, with the LW skinning the stand-in RB and taking a shot.

Brendan seems to be playing at LCB so he hasn't been at fault either time, but this is going to be a long night for him and his team mates

Got an assist on the first goal, later got a yellow, played 90 in a 2-0 win.
