  1. So the new Euro season kicks off with unfortunately only qualifying matches, as direct entrance is out of the window.

The Ajax result goes beyond Ajax stepping into the next round. Austria 11th/25050 points and the Netherlands 12th/23833 points are next to each other , and beating Austria in this direct confrontation means we're closer to being in a direct qualifying CL spot again next season!
So, if Ajax is serious they better start working on their direct entrance in the season 2019-2020 (But of course we Feyenoord are going to profit from it:)).

It's for the CL group stage in season 2020/21, like the article says.
Ajax, in case they advance, will play Standard. It will be a good test for them seeing Standard have struggled in recent years. Let's hope for less incidents this time round.

Just noticed that Ajax's coefficient has declined so much that when they advance, not if they advance seeing Sturm Graz were very weak, they'll still be unseeded in the play-off round (and if Standard eliminates Ajax they wouldn't even be able to profit from Ajax's coefficient). Also, the good news is that when Ajax eliminate Sturm Graz they'll have the guarantee of at least the EL group stage.

Seeded teams in the League path play-off round:

    1. Benfica (or Fenerbahçe)

    2a. Basel/PAOK (or Spartak Moscow)
2b. Dynamo Kyiv (or Slavia Prague)
=> either 2a (if Basel advances) or 2b (if PAOK eliminates Basel)

In the Champions path PSV will be seeded in the play-off round and the possible opponents shouldn't present too much of a problem. PSV were already guaranteed of at least the EL group stage (in case of a loss).

  6. At least we have the Helmond Cup at the moment:cool:
Poster in another thread pointed me to it!

AZ loses 0-2 to Almaty (Kazakhstan)
Vitesse draw 2-2 with Viitorul Constanta (Romania) but at least have two away goals

Viitorul the stronger side, Vitesse were lucky, Matavz's goal was :ROFLMAO:
For both Vitesse and AZ, they need to learn how to defend, the way they conceded was really bad.

Viitorul was founded and managed by the great Gheorge Hagi. They are reputed to have the best youth academy in Romania and promote players to first team football just like Dutch clubs do.

I knew we were bad but I did not imagine that we had fallen so low. Unbelievable. Lose against a team from Kazakhstan. What a shame.

One hopes that this resulted from the travel to Almaty for the match and that AZ will recover to win in Alkmaar.

Royal Dutch Shell has some new fields they are exploring so it's only a matter of time until the gushers come in.

So 1. Benfica (or Fenerbahçe) and 2b. Dynamo Kyiv (or Slavia Prague) will be the seeded teams in the play-offs. Also, Russian and Ukrainian teams won't be drawn against each other. Possbly Ajax or Standard won't have to face Benfica (or Fenerbahçe). If that's indeed the case:

    - Benfica (or Fenerbahçe) - Spartak Moscow (or PAOK)
    - Dynamo Kyiv (or Slavia Prague) - Ajax (or Standard)

Standard have lost the Belgian Super Cup against Brugge but played a thrilling game v. Gent. MPH is a very good manager but it's early doors as he only recently took charge of Standard. For years Standard have struggled and they've ways to go before getting back to their best. Also, at this stage it's better to play the second game at home but that advantage was given to Ajax. To make it a bit more fair Ajax could at least sell Ziyech before facing Standard (even then the market value of Ajax's squad would be over 3x Standard's). It's a very tough test for Standard and anything but a win for Ajax in this tie is a big surprise.

Wins by Ajax and Vitesse offset the loss by AZ in Euro competition this week. Netherlands move above Austria in coefficient points as a result. Long runs by the clubs still in Europe are needed to move up further.

Vitesse have a tough draw in the next EL round with Basel while Feyenoord play Slovak club Trencin. PSV start their CL qualification next week. Good luck to all the Dutch teams!!!!!

    https://kassiesa.home.xs4all.nl/bert/uefa/data/method5/crank2019.html

In the ranking Holland are still behind though and Austria will be counting on Salzburg (and Rapid) to rambo Europe.
Denmark is also a big competitor for a top 11 spot (and a direct CLGS spot if the CL holders qualify for the CLGS through the league). No Danish club has been knocked out so far, with 4 clubs their multiplier is better and they got lucky with a very soft draw for the next round. It's very likely that Denmark are about to overtake Holland.

After AZ's exit you'd expect Vitesse to get knocked out next. Basel are in transition and are a shambles right now so there's a chance. The Swiss are headed for a nightmare in Europe, the chasing pack of Switzerland, Czech Rep., Greece and Croatia gets thinned a bit. If Vitesse are knocked out then Feyenoord more than ever need to avoid a tough draw on Monday. In case they get Leipzig, for example, or any other of the better teams then Holland will probably have only two teams in Europe. Maybe both PSV and Ajax reach the CLGS and then you get a bonus but OTOH it's much easier to grab points in the EL.
