yeah, they do seem to have a lot of trouble. On the other hand my cable company can't seem to deliver FS1 in HD without trouble. Other HD channels and regular FS1 are fine but even apart from the world cup, it's screwy.

With the Crew matches, I wish they'd at least acknowledge the issue and show any key plays that were missed when they resume. Heck, they could go to a slightly delayed version and pick up where the broadcast cut out.

That most have been a local issue then. I saw the goal just fine.

Why is the replay of Saturday's game blacked out for me on ESPN+ more than 24 hours afterward?

So, it's a good thing that every Crew game shown on ESPN+ (and DirectKick before it) used the other team's broadcast feed?

They used the Crew feed for this match on E+ and I had no issues with parts of the match missing video. I really think it's just a local TV / OTA thing. I remember against Chicago a couple months back, the camera guy wasn't ready when the other team took their penalty and they basically missed the shot. I only saw this because someone posted it on FB. I had the Chicago feed on E+ and I had the normal angle you'd see in any match.

I really wish they'd go to some sort of standardized system. If they can use NBCSN channels for Revs home games, you'd think they could use Spectrum for Crew home games. Don't they use Spectrum SportsNet LA?

Of course, what would be really nifty is if they adopted something like MLB.tv, where you could select the video feed and even radio overlay if you so choosed to. I was told MLS guys were looking into a "select your feed" feature, but this was even a few years before ESPN+ was even rumored.

For many years, the away team would mooch the home team's video, but insert their own stuff (shots of coaches, players, fans and replays) as appropriate.

I should have been more specific... I think that was the first time they used the Crew broadcast this year. In the least, it's rare that they do.

I think MLB tv uses the same video feed, just different sound tracks.

On Sirius XM, they used the Fox TV commentary on the radio feed for the World Cup.

It will be interesting to see FCC’s tv plans. I wonder if they will be blacked out in Columbus and vice versa. I’m going to bet that FS Ohio is back in the picture and happy to be a part of it. I guess I can watch the Crew when they play at FCC but when I’m not in Cincinnati. How do they do it in NY and LA? Discourage everyone from watching MLS?

    I'm not sure they do.

The real test would be when the Indians play the Reds. I seem to remember different camera angles at times. Obviously, during batting, it would be the same or at least very similar, but other than that, I don't think it's 100% the same.

    Option 1:
They use the Cincinnati feed of FS Ohio. Some people gnash their teeth when games coincide with Reds games. Others gnash their teeth that Crew games aren't on FS Ohio.

This situation isn't pretty for the same reasons why Crew games on FS Ohio weren't pretty. (And I still contend the issue was 100% TW and their customers who refused to switch.)

    Option 2:
They go on a local channel.

This option seems much more likely.

NYC FC is on YES (The Yankees channel.)
NYRB is on MSG (Major NY sports channel, going as far as Buffalo. At one point, it was viewable in NE PA.) Note that there's multiple MSG channels such as MSG Plus, MLS 2 and MSG 2 Plus. I believe the "plus" channels are only active when needed.

LAFC is on an OTA affiliate of UniMas and YouTubeTV. (I believe you need an LA IP.)

The Galaxy are on Spectrum SportsNet LA. (Blacked out on the national feed, similar to teams on various other channels.)

Right now, they are on channel 64. Their antenna is just southwest of I-75 and the Reagan expressway (SR-126). I think they are on top of a hill. Just about anyone within the I-275 loop should have no trouble getting them OTA. They were carried by Cincinnati Bell FIOPTICS, Spectrum, and DirecTV. Not carried by DirecTV Now.

My guess is that FCCincinnati will stay there. The station is operated by Sinclair and a sister station to the local CBS affiliate. I think the CBS affiliate had the FC Cincinnati games the first year.

Anyhow, given the stadium location, I would bet Columbus is outside the 75 mile radius. I am at the intersection of I-71 and I-275 and get Crew games on ESPN+. No black out.

Dayton may have issues getting them OTA and be blacked out.

I’m in Troy north of Dayton. 65 miles to MAPFRE. 64 miles to Nippert. Too far for ch53 Ota. Might be able to get the Star64 with a big antenna. Id rather watch both on my Directv that I pay so much for.
I’m just saying the 75 mile rule needs to be looked at.

The obvious answer is move to Canton Ohio. So much excitement, you'll never regret the decision.

Its an ESPN thing i think, since it only started this year that all teams are required to have a blackout. First year ESPN has MLS digital rights, and blackouts similar to other sports they carry. Not a coincidence IMO.

Of course, games featuring both teams would be blacked out in both markets.

I'm not sure ESPN has other blackouts. They used to have various blackouts of MLB games where they'd show ESPN News on ESPN and they used to black out some college football games on their old ESPN3 service in limited areas, but others??

The road team in MLB has one or 2 extra cameras they bring and a director. That's why they always find pockets of their own fans in the crowd to show. They tie in to the local cameras and augment the broadcast with their own bits. Like cuts to their own sideline report and fans.

FC Cincinnati games have been broadcast on a local CINCINNATI CHANNEL the past two years. I would think fc Cincinnati would continue that. Carl Linder is no anthony

ESPN+ became available on consoles around 4 days ago. That info just saved me from buying next gen Apple TV. That was the one thing in my holiday list (since Crew were saved).

I honestly only know one person (well, couple) who admit to having bought an "Apple TV".

ESPN pissed me off when they re-paywalled the shit out of everything by swapping out ESPN3 (which was well-supported on mobile devices and Kodi alike) for ESPN+. I still went for the $6/month, like a dummy. But I did get my Super Rugby back. Assholes. Anyway, ESPN+ was supported from the get-go on mobile devices. I am unfamiliar with this "console". Is it like the olde-tyme cabinet tube TVs?
