Hey guys, with the '17-'18 DA season over now, I wanted to go ahead and get the new thread started.

Games start on September 1st. U.S. Soccer has a good “introduction to the season” post here:

    http://www.ussoccerda.com/20180309-news-16-new-clubs-added-for-2018-2019-season

The '18-'19 season will see the addition of 13 new clubs and 56 new teams, pushing the total to 178 clubs and 676 teams.

This thread will be primarily for game and tournament results during this season, as well as news about players and coaches. We have the "Development Academy 2.0" thread for more in-depth discussion, trends, etc. That thread is here:

    https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/ussf-development-academy-2-0.1920269/

Last season's DA thread is here:

    https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/2017-18-development-academy.2066517/

@Real Corona, can you please sticky this thread? Thanks!

Ironic that with Alphonso Davies seemingly on his way to Bayern Munich for at least 12 million, that two kids from Canada, along with Pulisic have been the biggest "big club" signings from the D.A.

A name to watch out for. Believe he can play in CM or RB. Powerful and athletic kid with technical ability. Looked good in the game I saw playing up a year in the Union academy. He's been in every '04 camp, and looks to be a starter in the main group.

There is a huge German, Italian, and Croatian diaspora in Eastern PA. I hope Philly can capitalize on this properly

    Who is the other Canadian?

I would disagree. Weston McKennie moving to Schalke at 18 and will now be playing in the Champions League in a few weeks as a 19 year old. Josh Sargent will most likely be a starter for Bremen in one month.

    Other big names:
    Taylor Booth to Bayern
    Tim Weah moving to PSG
There also a bunch of FC Dallas kids training with Bayern

I don’t think Davies will be able to crack Bayern’s starting XI for at least another year. He will probably go on loan somewhere

On that note, another bigger name in the Union academy whose playing at this tournament, Marcello Mazzola, has a very Italian name.

Its hard to watch these ICC futures games because none of the state all star teams have rosters listed for them, and not even all of the MLS academy teams have up to date rosters with the correct numbers. What is the point of showing these games if no one can figure out who is who?

Tabla wasn't just a free youth signing to Barca, they paid a transfer fee.

I did forget about Tim Weah's time in the D.A and would add him to the list.

There is no better Italian name than Mazzola for a soccer player.

Tabla's fee was never disclosed, but there was some quote from Montreal that his fee could pay for the Academy to run for half a year or something like that.

@Balerion posted this in the '17/'18 thread, but I wanted to get it in the '18/'19 one too.

Not sure about published rosters...RSL is made up of returning 19s, rising 17s, and a few trialists...tied Stuttgart today 0-0, Game about even...it is really hot in Norco (all games moved to morning, still pushing 100 degrees)...RSL v Dortmund at 9:00 AM tomorrow, should be streamed

I wouldn't expect too much to come of this because it's the Revs, but they are bringing in kids with a residency program now.

I would expect Freidel to change that up. He had his own academy for a while and it wouldn't surprise me that that was something he asked for in his contract. hard to compete with other coaches when they have more players to choose from.

That's awesome! We'll see what comes of it, but we need to empower an ever greater number of kids to train longer and in more professional environments. These two seem to be coming from Vermont and upstate NY for the opportunity.

Very promising, especially considering that it's coming from a team like the Revs.

Arkansas just came off the "no active pros" board thanks to Tommy Roberts. Maybe Vermont is up next?

Dortmund 4-1 over RSL...just a class above, but in RSL’s defense, the team just got back together 3 days ago in Utah, and being a mixture of 17s, 19s, and trialists they were fortunate to get a lesson from a well oiled Dortmund machine, without too much permanent damage.

On another note, David Ochoa has been removed from the academy for team rules violations. I heard more details, but we’ll just leave it alone. Rumor is ManU is interested.
