Let me preface this by saying this could end up completely wrong and it's a lot of speculative reaches. With that being said this is why I think Soto may be off to BMG. @USAProspects commented on a Reddit thread saying we wouldn’t have to wait long for an exciting young yank with Monchengladbach. Here’s a picture. Now I wasn’t sure the exciting yank was at first but Soto immediately came to mind. He fits the billing of being exciting and as he turns 18 on the 28th, it certainly won't be a long wait. I checked out his Twitter and lo and behold he’s following BMG. This is what convinced me the most, it seems highly unlikely that he'd just be following BMG and I've found no indication that he's just a fan. Thus, my Soto to Monchengladbach rumor has started. Again, I just need to reiterate this is speculation of the highest order, and don't hold me to this; this could all be just a wacky coincidence. However, I am feeling pretty confident about this.
My first thought was that I used to follow monchengladbach because they had this player on the USMNT... but Soto doesn’t follow Dortmund. He does follow Ajax, Ajax academy, and Ajax English. Idk if that means anything I just thought it could somehow fit the narrative.
I hate to do this, but @zlebmada hinted that he had an inside scoop in another thread. Are we getting warmer?
Isn't he signed already to play for a college team for a year or semester in order to get full scholarship?
On the Scuffed podcast he said if another opportunity to arose he would consider it. I don't remember the exact wording but it was something along those lines.
Yeah, he's committed to Cal but that means nothing, Mckennie was committed to UVA, Richards was committed to UNC earlier this year before signing with FCD etc...
It was BS, but I don’t actually think it was Zleb. Is the other guy from the scuffed podcast on here?
Found this article from June 7th that says that Soto scored a goal in a test match after the regular U19 season had concluded. Copied from Google Translate: "Pro player Sebastian Soto from the USA, who brought the Borussia 2-0 lead (73)." https://www.borussia.de/de/aktuelles-termine/news/borussia-news/news-detailansicht.html?print=1&tx_ttnews[tt_news]=34199&cHash=d347f8710247c028adac12acbabe54ac
poor RSL. they wont keep investing in their academy if they lose their highest talent without getting compensated. but Soto to BMG is dope!
It's definitely exciting times. Still need to reiterate the fact that the current model for sending players to Europe is just not sustainable. US sides aren't going to continue investing in youth if they reap absolutely no benefits other than reputation for it.
Get solidarity payments, and play top prospects when they sign for you, that's about all they can do.
Didn't say that they don't. They've gotten Glad, Acosta, Lennon (after a Liverpool youth stint), and Saucedo out of it. Not bad for a team based in SLC taking players from Arizona. I'm just saying, all an MLS team can do is be as attractive as possible to prospects, try to develop them as best they can, and if that fails, get solidarity payments if they leave. Right now, they don't get the solidarity payments (AFAIK). At 18, soccer players are part of a global marketplace. And MLS teams are competing with teams from around the world for their prospects, just like any other team.
Aaahhh, yes, gotcha! @CreightonMCFCjoey is @USAprospects on Twitter. I asked Adam Belz if they were planning to record a podcast together and Joey said they were recording it next Monday, to be published either Tuesday or Wednesday.
Then tell the US Federation to join the rest of the world in allowing clubs to seek training compensation...
Start a petition on BS, circulate it around soccer twitter and reddit? I feel bad for RSL. The MLSPA shouldn't have the power to hurt all clubs in the US because they don't want players who aren't signed to have their movement restricted. Makes no sense. Players should understand that if people don't get paid, they're not going to do their job, and then their freedom of movement is going to be even worse because they're not good enough to be wanted.
Soto is on trial in Europe again. I am hearing RSL academy forward Sebastian Soto might not be involved in this U-20 camp in North Carolina after all due to a trial in Europe.— Brian Sciaretta (@BrianSciaretta) July 14, 2018
