A good part of innovation is derivative. I say copy whatever works, synthesize it, improve on it, and make it your own. But I'm a terrible nationalist. So what do I know?

Brazil is not Belgium. Comparing the two is idiotic. Learn history. Learn Culture.

I really do hope Tite continues. Our best shot at a title is continuity. They're aren't many Brazilian coaches capable of making us competitive today. We are falling behind. If Tite wants to stay, give him free reign until 2022.

I'm glad we went out with the effort and fight we did, unlike the last 3 World Cups, but there is still a lot of room for improving the attitude and preparedness of the team. The reactions of Thiago Silva when he hit the post and Gabriel Jesus and Fernandinho when the first goal went in made me fear a breakdown. Fortunately we got a reaction instead but between the opposing keeper and our aim it wasn't to be. (Coutinho had such a wonderful chance that he shanked! That one was heartbreaking.)

Edited to add: I saw one Brazilian columnist today say Tite should go. That his work was poor. And I'm fairly sure I didn't see anything near as negative from the same columnist before the Belgium game. Unbelievable how some can turn so quickly.

I think what I bolded is the big part of the equation. From watching him for ten plus years I don't think international football is his end game. I think he wants to be grinding 11 months a year on the training pitch with a club. Inter was sniffing around trying to bring him to Italy , if a similar situation arises I think there is a chance he pounces. When Jose Mourinho starts praising you in the media its a great start. The only reason why he said he wouldn't want to coach in Europe is the language barrier.. That might be what keeps him with Selecao.

This is bizzare. We lacked luck in the final 3rd yes but his overall work was good. Biggest issue was his selection and reluctance to make changes. I believe he has the ability to learn from this Copa.

This article was really good in expressing what we all think. Tite should continue but take time to acknowledge his mistakes.

I would also like to think he uses the next friendlies to call up guys like Fabinho and Luan who need to become staples in the NT and let go of guys like Paulinho and Fernandinho. I'm not holding my breath that we see a mass change though.

Why? What makes you so different to them and so unique?

You have to ask yourself why has a country with nearly 200 million less people than you created better handlers of the ball than you (Hazard)? Better readers of the game than you (Du Bruyne), developed better tactics, more street smart players (Lukaku), better defenders etc.

I think the only thing you could put down to culture is the fact they seem to have more emotionally stable players. Players who won’t greet their eyes out after a group game and score winning goals after the 90 minutes are up. Players who can keep their heads when their backs are to the wall (like in the second half) and hold on.

I understand all that but it seems that Brazilian coaches always take players to the World Cup that are essentially dead weight, e.g., Muller in '94, Bernard in '14, Taison in '18. It seems to me if you are going to take players you don't expect to use much, then take one of the future great prospects in Brazil football like Vinicius Jr.
Also, tell me, what would happen if Vincius Jr. goes into the Belgium game and creates some magic? Indeed, I can possibly expect great things even from a very young Vinicius than a Taison. To me, Taison is a relative nobody. Sorry to say that about a Brazil national team member, but I feel it's the truth.

Brazilian coaches will never give us a 23 man roster that will satisfy us. There is always someone we wanted to call up. Vinicius on the bench doesn’t help us anymore than having Taison on the bench. If Vinicius is a special talent like Ronaldo 94 was he is gonna be great regardless if he was on the bench or not.

Who's to say Fred wouldn't have come in if we had been up by 2 and not down by 2?

23 players need to cover that option as well not just the ones we saw actually play out.

Parreira basically admits it was a mistake taking 17 year old Ronaldo in 1994. The kid was star struck. Rivaldo or Edmundo would've been better options in hindsight.

I've read a Ronaldo biography that disputes what Parreira is saying here. In the book it is said that Ronaldo was crushing all training sessions during the WC, impressing a lot of the team veterans, but Parreira didn`t put him in any of the games in order not to disrupt the hierarchy of the team and bring tensions in the group.

He should have played in the final instead of Viola. Viola played well in those 15 minutes, but Ronaldo was much better even at that age, imagine a 17 year old Ronaldo wrecking havoc among the tired Italian defense? I'm convinced to this day that Brazil would have scored in extra time had he played.

^at the time we kept hearing that about Viola . Media reports that he was "voando nos treinos" throughout the tournament, but never any word on Ronaldo. That's why Viola played the overtime. So I tend to believe Parreira . It doesn't make sense that he would not bring the absolute best striker he had with 15 min left in the final match.

Watching him play against Iceland before the 1994 World Cup (and in games after it) doesn't suggest anything remotely close to him being starstruck tbh.

Letting Marcelo, Fernandinho and Fagner play was a huge mistake on tite's part.

Fernandinho had to play as there isn’t another natural DM.

In hindsight, Tite could of opted for Marquinhos over Fagner and keep Filipe in the starting 11 over Marcelo for more defensive security but there is nothing he could do for guys missing chances.

The biggest mistakes from previous World Cups for Brazil is a lack of depth for substitutes and keeping injured players in the bench. It the same mistake from 2010; Elano got hurt and dunga had no one there to substitute him same as in 2014 with neymar was injured and thiago silva who got a stupid yellow.

I just want brazil to play with their usual flair in 2022 ...The players are indeed Brazilians but playing like Europeans. We need to come out of that.

I was at the stadium for that match in Florianopolis . Watched him score his first with the selecao shirt, and then again in 1996 against Denmark just before the Olympics. scoring with his left leg in both games.

It just doesn't make sense to me that Parreira would make that up 20+ years later or place him beneath Viola on some silly bench hierarchy in a WC final.

Going forward central defense and right back positions a problem according to Globo: https://globoesporte.globo.com/blog...s-para-a-renovacao-da-selecao-para-2022.ghtml

They are placing a good deal of faith in Arthur and Lucas Paquetá for the midfield.

Also think need a proven goal scoring CF. I hope GJesus can ameliorate this aspect of his game over next few years.

Luan, do Grêmio, tem idade para mais um Mundial, mas não caiu nas graças de Tite. ---- does anyone have any insight as to why?

Luan doesn't have very well defined position. That was the problem stated by Tite.

My personal feeling, and I've stated this before, is that he is a good Brasileirão player but that's about it. I am not convinced by him.

It can't because of marketing. Now whenever someone thinks of Brasil, they think tricks, flicks, smiles and goals along with it regardless of any tactics or opponents. I blame Nike. I can't count how many times people think Brasil is boring and miss the good times of the 02'-06 team.

Even then, that side was extremely solid defensively and we essentially fielded 5 defenders in 02

Luan is destined to be a Brasileirão superstar because he doesn’t want to adapt himself
