In that game in 2014 he only really had one really great save. The one on Neymar's header. Everything else was basically straight at him including the late TS point blank header. There is a tendency IMO to overstate a GKs performance when they pitch a shutout with X number of saves when a lot of them may have just been saves they are expected to make.

The 2007 Copa America I believe he was the starting keeper as well. I remember him having a great game then as well.

Not too worried about Marcelo being out because Felipe Luis isn't too bad of a backup.

More worried about the yellow cards accumulation. Fifa needs to reevaluate that rule, imo.

Ochoa will be key for Mexico. Let’s hope he has a bad night sleep Sunday night.

Eh, I'd say it's more on Neymar wearing his shooting cleats. No more
brincando com a bola, this is a World Cup!

Luis is better defensively but on the attacking front marcelo is better and has better chemistry with neymar

I told you man, one phenomenal save after another. I can see this happening Monday. I have a message to my buddies in Russia to round everybody up, go to the hotel Sunday night where Mexico is staying, and fuking scream all night long and horns!

Neymar/Marcelo/Coutinho are the deadliest trio in the world, FROM THE LEFT. And since most teams, if not all teams, play extreme defensiveness against us, we need Marcelo!

Two questions coming in my mind before the game

    1. Is Douglas costa fit enough to feature in the game ?
    2. Will firmino start ahead of Jesus .

I actually prefer Filipe Luis in this game, because Mexico’s strategy will be to exploit the space on the wings, and Filipe is a stud defensively. The trio will be more needed deeper in the WC, not now.

The mexico forum is funny right now, because they are couting that Marcelo being out will weaken our already “suspect” (their words) defense. Little do they now that Filipe Luis is an upgrade in this instance.

And btw, why so many of our rivals think that our defense is iffy? what the hell are they watching?

I agree. I am fine with F. Luis. Might actually prefer it. And he provides more support in attack than people think. Add to that that Marcelo was missing passes galore, and I hope F. Luis starts.

Yeah I took at the Mexico forum which I never do, and they equate Marcelo out with a dent in our defense

I have to say, I watched part of the Mexico x Sweden game and I thought Mexico were dong fine from mid first half to when they conceded the first goal. I didn't watch the first 25 mins. Everybody said they were a mess. That's not what I saw.

Until the first goal, they were fine. After the goal, however, the team broke down completely, reminded me of the 7-1, actually. It was that embarrassing.

I was thinking you can start both Filipe and Marcelo kinda of like Dunga did with Maicon and Daniel Alves but I can’t see Tite going that route. It have been never tested.

I think Marcelo can transition to a midfield role smoothly. He pretty much plays like one anyway.

Who would you remove? I could see something like that happening as a tactical change midway into a game

I take out Willian. Put Marcelo in Coutinho role and Coutinho on the right where he played for most of qualifying.

That doesn't make sense to me. Coutinho has been fantastic where he is playing. You don't break that just to fit Marcelo in, who may have skills to play that role but has almost never actually played it.

I hope we have Douglas costa and Danilo available.

Fagner seemed really weak defensively against Serbia. I see mexicans studying films and picking that side.
Danilo is not any better defensively, however he has size that can help in defense.

If marcelo is fit then F luis should play in place of both fagner and danilo.

Douglas costa is a big miss he was playing amazing in limited min. Hopefully he comes back for next match

He is doing field exercises including some light sprints. So I guess there is hope.

It is theory, not the real.
Neymar dont need the LB who keep the ball too much.
Neymar need a simple left back. Who pass him the ball quickly when he get much space. Marcelo always keep the ball and stolen time and space of Neymar. Neymar dont need the LB who wanna make something diffirrent everytime. Neymar need the simple like Jordi Alba or Kruzawa.
Marcelo is a super player when play with Cr7 and Kross but not good when combine with Neymar and Coutinho . I dont remember any impress match of Marcelo when Neymar play with him. And in defense, F.Luis is better. He will make the leftwing more balance.

If I’m an opposition coach though, I know and see that all the danger is coming from that side, I would make a concentrated effort to neutralized it.
