Darn... I was really hoping for LAFC or RioT (or even Audi, but that would've been a stretch.) Well, at least Portland will have the best chance of a nice crowd (outside of LA) in case of a no-home-team game.
Is this good news for the Red Stars? Breaking: Chicago Cubs owners the Ricketts Family have signed a letter of intent to acquire the controlling stake of the Chicago USL franchise aiming to launch in 2020. Its planned home is a new 20,000-seat stadium on Chicago’s North Side. More to come in @sbjsbd today.— Ian Thomas (@byIanThomas) May 9, 2018 If anyone can do it, the Cubs can do it. I would love to see a SSS on the North Side and maybe the CRS can be a part of it. Who knows? Maybe one day the Cubs may be a part of Red Stars ownership. Long shot, I know, but any news involving another soccer stadium in Chicago is good news to me.

The location seems much nicer than TP, but I'd worry about the rent. Also, how long is the current deal to play in TP?
Yes, the rent. Not sure about the TP deal and how long. I can ask at the next game. I'm assuming it is year by year.
What happened to the ability to watch old games? It seems full match replays have been removed from the NWSL web site (I even tried using a VPN with a European IP and couldn't find them) and Go90 only has the last 2 week's matches. Am I missing something?
Trivial pursuits. Looking back at the 2013 draft. 26 of the 32 draftees played in the NWSL Only 8 are still active players in 2018: K. Mewis, Short, Franch, Nairn, Tymrak, A. Brooks, Hoy, and Kopmeyer. Most minutes played of the 2013 draftees: Nairn, 8730; K. Mewis 7306; Tymrak 6101; K Williamson (now retired) 5544; A Brooks, 5263. Career most under the radar: Maddy Evans, played 5 seasons, 2013-2017, and appeared in 74 matches for 3,842 minutes. One of 6 players who appeared in matches in each of the first 5 seasons of the NWSL. Retired in 2017. Biggest bargain in the draft: Kopmeyer, selected 31st of 32. Note: Yours truly is not error free in his calculations.
New dump time! https://www.wralsportsfan.com/nc-native-amanda-duffy-enters-her-2nd-year-leading-nwsl/17595733/ LOTS of things to talk about in here... Lack of commish, expansion, NWSL Championship location discussions (and, interestingly, Seattle issues), NC vs Brazil, the ICC, etc. Gonna let other people pick things out that they want to. http://www.philly.com/philly/sports...nt-germain-manchester-city-nwsl-20180531.html Giant set of ICC 2019 info drops - what they're hoping for (16 teams, including 8(!) from NWSL as well as AUS and MEX reps) and such.
I don't get why they can't do a national broadcast in Seattle. The Reign hosted playoff games in 2014 and 2015, and it was televised on either ESPN or Fox Sports, I can't remember which.
IIRC the Lifetime deals some set of minimum facility requirements. Maybe ESPN/Fox had enough resources to bring in much more of their own stuff and overcome whatever Memorial couldn't fit/provide? Whatever the reason, it explains why Seattle didn't get a single regular season Lifetime broadcast either.
Seattle Reign FCVerified account @ReignFC We are incredibly proud of @JessFishlock , who has been made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for her career as a footballer and for her efforts on behalf of the LGBT community. A well-deserved honor for an brilliant player and person.
Love this. For all the ruckus about how Portland fans receive Jess, I think they love her. She brings a flair to PDX that is much appreciated.
I am as proud as they are: great achievement Jess! You fought as a warrior and you fought for a good reason. (So, for just a moment, I'm going to forget about all of my usual anti-monarchic drive ).
I just watched Germany-Canada on a TSN2 live stream. The male announcer mentioned the Germans' european clubs several times. He never mentioned the Canadians' club teams, except to say Labbe had been accepted by the Calgary Foothills men but had been ruled out of playing there. He did say that Buchanan had re-signed with Lyon. He and the woman analyst never mentioned the NWSL or any NWSL team. Except near the end when Leon was subbed on, he said she played for Blue Sky. The woman analyst did not correct him. I blame poor preparation by the announcing team, because they were the ones on the mic. I also blame the Canadian Federation for not advocating for the NWSL - after all they are invested. .... Admittedly, I stepped away during half time and may have missed something there........
August 7th. http://www.nwslsoccer.com/rules-regulations Scroll down to the bottom. Edited to add that the trade deadline occurs on the "Roster Freeze" date.
AWESOME interview with Sam Johnson. If you have limited time jump to 6:10 on the audio. She is so honest and genuine! https://www.rsl.com/post/2018/06/26/samantha-johnson-beyond-pitch Q "How special was it to earn a spot in Chicago via open tryouts?" A. "It wasn't." ......and she goes on to explain that she had firmly decided not to play soccer after college and didn't actually regain her genuine motivation to play until her second stint in Australia.
Overheard on Twitter: C.F.Monterrey Femenil might be coming to TX to play a friendly match against the Dash next week #ligamxfemenil playing against the #nwsl This would definitely be nice to see! pic.twitter.com/HNlOIa4fvJ— Leslie Chairez (@lesliecphotos) June 28, 2018 Makes sense since the 3rd is smack-dab in the middle of the Dash's 10-day break. (Also, their brother clubs are playing a charity match tomorrow.) =edit= Here's an announcement from what I think is CFM's site: http://www.rayados.com/noticias/12991/rayadas_tendrn_pretemporada_en_dallas_y_en_houston
This has major implications for the NWSL and Concacaf, which have exclusive game streams on the platform Verizon Is Shutting Down Go90, Its Ill-Fated Mobile Video Service https://t.co/Kc5YMUFsjm via @variety— Jonathan Tannenwald (@thegoalkeeper) June 28, 2018
If you've noticed lots of handheld cameras and boom mics hovering around @TheNCCourage this year, they're part of a season-long docuseries being produced by Peter Berg's @filmforty5 for Verizon/@oath and NWSL Media. My story: https://t.co/siRWTljD2B— Neil Morris (@ByNeilMorris) June 28, 2018
I just got a chance to listen to this. So honest and genuine, huh CoachJon? IMO, if she hated it in Chicago so bad and if earning a spot in Chicago from a try-out was nothing special than why didn't she just quit last season? So now being traded to Utah is "special" as compared to winning a spot in Chicago, which was not special? What's with these comments? The coaches in Chicago gave her an opportunity by giving her a contract from a try-out, started her, played her consistently, what was the problem? The fans embraced her, cheered for her, the city was welcoming. What was the problem? Same with Christen Press. She was treated like a STAR here, the fans went wild over her at every game, the Red Stars tried to build around her, they tried to give her everything she wanted from my understanding. What was the problem? If players don't want to play for my Chicago team, OK, not a problem, than leave and we truly wish you the best, but with some of these comments I have read, I take it as a dig toward my city, my team and our fans. Let's see if the grass is really greener on the other side now? If it is, more power to you, but the CRS faithful will still go to the games at Toyota Park to cheer for those players that want to be in our city and play for our team, just like we did for those who were here and have left or retired. I liked Sam Johnson as many CRS fans did, she made several goal-scoring slide-saves and she was a nice person who interacted with fans, although some of us felt her and Katie Naughton weren't always jelling in that central defender area, not personally just position-wise. We wish her good luck, but move on. Just my opinions.
There may be something to that as well. As one former Red Stars player once told me, you can't have thin skin to play for Rory Dames. Having said that, he has always been nice to me.
I always thought the on-field relationship between Sofia and Rory was good, although he did inadvertently outed her on her marking of Horan. It's no secret, he yells at players and instructions during the game, heck you can sometimes hear him on the broadcasts. I've played for coaches in my career that were screamers and yellers, it's not always fun but you handle it and sometimes you remember those same coaches years later for keeping you focused not only on the game but in life. Rory does have players that have been there playing for him for many years on the Red Stars. Not everyone can play for every coach. Different players deal differently with different coaching personalities.
