Based on what I've seen of Yun Sun-young, he's pretty reliable. I don't know why he wasn't selected ahead of Jang.

He wasn't poor during the AG as opposed to how he's been thus far with the national team, but then again the difference in level between U-20/23 and national team is big. Like any other promising young player who ended up being a wasted talent, more so after he went chasing for grease money, he's become Kang Min-soo 2.0 but with more mental issues.

    Nah he was always shit.
But tbf, I didn't know who he was until Stielike started to play him.

Let's be serious is here: the pool of defenders doesn't justify JHS continously getting selected after he makes mistakes on Multiple occasions. It's an excuse can't be used anymore.

I do think some defenders his better than him and tougher mentally (looking at you KMJ) while others are not that great, but even if they are not that great...isn't fair for them to get ignored while JHS is doing what is doing.

Yeah I can see that but I feel like generally most people say "this dude went to China and turn into a shit player" but I argue that most of these shit players were already shit.
The only exception is Hong Jeongho and maybe Kim Younggwan (stagnated). Nam Taehee as well if you want to include Qatar. But the rest, they were never promising in the first place.

I'm just stating that Jang Hyun-soo was the least of our worries during the 2014 Incheon Asian Games while Lee Yong-jae was, but that's all there's to it for him, chasing grease money did him no good, but it started off with the U-23/Olympic NT where he began to show signs of mental lapse.

At the same time...it's really difficult to asses your real potential when you are not given the opportunity or you choose to take some Chinese money. Let's say a 20/21 years JHS would have went to some Standard Liegi and from there in Ligue 1 : how much would have he improved?

What if NTH stayed in ligue 1? Could be he ever get close to score 11 goals in a full season while being an important player for a ligue 1 side?

Yeah but that's Asian Games, a low quality tournament. That's like not worrying an 8th grader dumbass to pass a 5th grade test.
But about "grease money" thing, tbh it doesn't matter where he goes, he will always be a low quality defender. Always was and always will be. It doesn't matter.

Seriously I've never known he was a promising player in the past or people rated him. For me, people always bitched about him as far as I remember. I've always thought he sucked and nobody really liked him.

Not much because he never had that potential.
NTH is different because he showed he had the potential to compete while in France. He threw that away though by going to Qatar when he was 19...
But still NTH is a better footballer than JHS even now.

Well maybe he wasn't that talented, but i refuse to think JHS have always been this bad. How could you even become a professional footballer being this shitty? Just doesn't make sense to me.

Yo, is your brain screw loose or what?
Also, not sure why you're even further complicating chook90's simple question, but all he asked was Jang Hyun-soo poor in the 2014 Incheon Asian Games like he is now? and the answer is no. And, of course you wouldn't have known whether he was promising or not, you just stated it yourself that you had no idea who he was when Stielike selected him. Jang Hyun-soo "was" a promising player during his youth days, but promising meant little to nothing considering how shit he is, otherwise we wouldn't be complaining about him had he actually done something to improve as a player.

u know what, i don't really care why STY chose him on the roster...as long as neither of them show up for NT related anything going forward.

I know I'm changing the direction of the discussion here a little bit, but a promising defender during his youth days doesn't mean much these days for the KNT. The last 10 years or so, we always had a central defender here and there that we thought could be at least competent coming through the youth ranks, and it never materialized.

Killaroca is correct that the U-21/U-23 to KNT is a huge gap.

Tbf I was just disagreeing with this part of your statement regardless of what chook90 said
But honestly I just disagree with the whole premise that if X avoided China, X wouldn't have turned into a shit player. It's true for some but in many case these players were never good in the first place. And I know this is the case with JHS when he can't even do the basic fundamental stuff that is obvious for most decent players. Also I feel like playing in the K-league has a similar detrimental effects like playing in China. Regardless of playing in China or Korea, players won't get the nurturing they need.

Also I went back to some old threads but nobody really talked about JHS. He was just there playing for our team but nobody gassed him up like how we used to gas up HJH and KYK.
