I think what the Sweden match showed is that we need fast players in attack, guys like Werner, Reus, Brandt fit that concept. The issue with Muller, Ozil, and Draxler is that they seem too slow, whether in terms of build up but especially in potential counters. They are also less likely to take on players. Draxler is just useless but Muller and Ozil could still be useful.
Germany vs Korea in the WC brings pleasant memories. Klinsi's wundertor and Ballack's grit, scoring the winner in the semis after knowing that he would miss the game because of a suspension. Expect a moment for the ages from this one too.
What wasn't shown is that he threw the old man in the wheelchair into the pool himself, just for the laughs, but he didn't know that Khedira doesn't know how to swim. And now I feel bad because I was always a proponent of Khedira's role in the team but sadly, that is how he looked like after losing the ball against Mexico: Like a guy that was thrown out of his wheelchair. As for Korea, it's the kind of game for Draxler to shine which might come back to bite us just like his limitations were shown at the Euro. I'd like to see Kroos, Rudy and Goretzka to get a feeling for their chemistry together, but again, this might not be the right game for it. Löws attitude so far seems to be to start with a very offensive minded formation and then get rid of CMs and FBs when things go bad after the midfield leaked like a sieve. But that removes even more of the shaky foundation which is a recipe for disaster for me. It's strange because in comparison to 2014, Rudy and Goretzka don't seem to have less creativity and potential to add to the offense than Schweinsteiger and Khedira.
--------Neuer-- Ginter(Rudiger) Sule Hummels Kimmich Hector Goretzka Kroos Muller Reus Werner Just back 3!!! That make us much more dangerous in front of goal ,and much more stable at the defence
There's a table in the OP that describes all possible scenarios. If we want to be 100% sure of going through, no matter what happens in the other game, we need to win by at least 2 goals.
Here's a stats site that breaks down the odds of various outcomes (according to their own modeling). https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2018-world-cup-predictions/?ex_cid=rrpromo
Based on the probable results we would have to go through Brazil, England, France and finally Spain to win the WC. Pretty depressing, I don't think we can do it. :-(
winning 2 consecutive WCs was always a hard task, we also haven't started or played well as of yet. At the min, we should try to go as far as possible. And GS exit which has never happened in our history is the biggest no no. if we end up in 2nd place in our group. we have 1st place in Group A which is either Russia or Uruguay. Uruguay need to win to be 1st we have 2nd place in Group B which could be between Spain, Portugal, and Iran we have 1st place in Group C which is France unless they lose Denmark we have 2nd place in Group D which is between Nigeria, Iceland and Argentina. we have 1st place in Group E which is between Brazil, Swiss and Serbia. No guarantee Brazil even make it, drew Swiss 1-1, needed injury time to score 2 vs Costa Rica. If Swiss win vs Costa Rica and Brazil draws or losses they won't be 1st. Even if Brazil wins, GD could be the deciding factor as to who ends up 1st. Currently Brazil are only 1 GD ahead of the Swiss. we have 2nd place in Group F, also no guarantee we end up 2nd. If Sweden beat Mexico and we beat Korea by more than 2 goals we top the group. Mexico only needs a draw to top the group, we have 1st place in Group G, England and Belgium, one of the other has to win the game. If they tie, it will actually go to "fair play points across all group matches." As both have the same number of GF, GA, GD, and Pts. we have 2nd place in Group H, which is between Japan, Colombia, and Senegal, no clear 2nd place all close. if we end up in bracket 1, no guarantees except for France that seems like good shot. The rest all seem to depend on the last matchdays of each groups.
Just think about the Korea match now and no need to think whether we can go all the way specially the way we have started the campaign... I bet not many people would have thought that we will win the whole thing in 2014 beating France, Brazil, Argentina in last 3 matches after losing Reus and brining in injured/unfit Neuer, Lahm, Schewinsteiger and Khedira
I'd expect a pretty physical match against the South Koreans. Two of the most fouls committed performances in this WC were SK against Sweden and Mexico. Although, they also happen to concede a penalty in each of those games. Süle or Rüdiger will be needed to step up in Boateng's absence. A douchey dirtbag player like Emre Can would also be useful in situations like this. Other major thing to watch out for is the report that their key player Son Heung Min may need to go through military service if the team doesn't advance to the KO rounds. So overall, I'd expect a tougher fight especially since they're very much still in the race among the group. 24 - Most fouls conceded in the 2018 World Cup:🥇 South Korea 🇰🇷 v Mexico (24)🥈 South Korea 🇰🇷 v Sweden (23)🥉 Morocco 🇲🇦 v Portugal (23)Plan ? #KORMEX #WorldCup pic.twitter.com/Xc8g4XNIUr— OptaJean (@OptaJean) June 23, 2018
but the fact that Korea need to win the game to have a shot at survival means they need to attack which should open them up. what's worrying from that tweet is I really hope they don't injure anyone like Werner or Reus, especially Reus. it's worse that FIFA told refs to be more lenient at this WC which is why there is a lack of cards for so many fouls......
instead of Reus, let's bring Ballack out of retirement so that he can send Germany through again, reminisce of 2002 WC. And he should make sure to get double yellow as well.
4-2-3-1 with high line defence Not enough players for pressing.... so predictable We need a more balanced approach. Rudy is a good start perhaps. But we also need Goretzka —————Neuer -Kim—Sule—-Rudiger—Hector ——Rudy—Goretzka —Kroos —Muller——Werner——-Reus
