Negative today is that Neymar and Coutinho picked up YCs. Neymar also rode the line dangerously for YC by hitting Navas. I can't believe he picked up such a stupid YC. He will never learn. Coutinho I don't know what he said to the ref. YCs only reset in the SF and carry over from group stage. I honestly think 2 YCs is pretty harsh for a game suspension. Should be 3 imo.
Neymar and Coutinho need to be very careful not to pick up a second yellow. It's easy to say to control your temper, but in the heat of things, and the hacking, and the refs letting everything go, and all the pressure on you, I can understand. Neymar's break down was very emotional. Different than Thiago Silva's breakdown against Chile last Cup. Honestly, I don't know how Neymar takes the pressure that Messi was unable to cope with. I didn't say Neymar broke the tie. Neymar was of course, and as usual, key in this match. Neymar now breaks Romario's WC goal record with only Ronaldo phenomeno and PELE in front of him, and he's only 26. I thought Tite has done a great job with the team defensively. We have hardly been threathened. Also, his subs were great today.
I think the midfield might actually benefit if we start Renato Augusto over Paulinho. I can’t believe I’m thinking this. The build up play in midfield has been lacking.
Thanks. I see your point. I'm more in Alexi Lalas' camp that it was both a foul and an embellishment. Had he not called it I would be fine with it. Regarding the yellow for dissent, they should be discounted relative to yellows for fouls. Like points on your license. Game suspensions should be doled out on accumulated infringement points. It truly is infuriating that you can almost hack a guy's legs off and receive same penalty for simply expressing frustration.
Was thinking the exact same thing. Not a big deal in a league, but in a tournament it's a harsh punishment.
Neymar losing his shit in games is an old problem, and worries me a lot. I don’t think he will ever learn. Today he could be sent off had the referee showed the yellow for diving in the penalty. It is frustrating as well to see Coutinho falling to this trap, he’s usually very cool and collected. But Neymar’s antics rubs off on the team, which is not good.
Also, Neymar’s antics singlehandedly turns the neutrals against Brazil, we’ve seen this pattern since 2014. Reading comments on the guardian forum, the hate on Brazil’s team is overwhelming discussions there, all because of Neymar’s antics (a carretilha plus the penalty plus the yellow card mainly). That is unfortunate.
