It does amaze me on the Khedira breakdown how many german players were behind the ball

yet the whole midfield got cut out with one pass - and what exactly is Khedira doing there?

    Screen Shot 2018-06-20 at 11.45.57.jpg

To be fair Kimmich was joining the attack but what are the rest thinking?

The efforts of Mueller and Draxler are laughable

Kroos is covering 2 players in his zone but he leaves the centre of midfield wide open - this is no special ball - it has just been passed straight up the middle

I think hummels over committed on that play and lost. He could have stayed with Hernandez while waiting for support

I would not fault Hummels for this. I agree with what you say, but hindsight is always 20/20.
Hummels over committed himself because of a precedent that was set in the game. The others weren't backtracking at all or were very lethargic with their defensive duties. Mainly Mueller, Kimmich and Khedira.
Props to Hummels for at least trying.

There are so many basic errors.

Germany actually have 4 midfielders tucked in on that play but Drax and Mueller just watch Khedia lose his duel and don't get close to him for the transition

Kroos appears to have left his zone to cover the out ball to the right side

Hummels comes out to cover Kroos

Plattenhardt has stayed wide and high

    Everything is broken about this

Watching the highlights Khedira was attacking far too much given germany had all of Drax, Mueller and Ozil playing

Things improved when he went off and Kroos played as a 1 and Ozil played in central mid. At that point there was a proper block in midfield.

I suppose what I am saying is I don't think huge changes are needed - but the team needs to stop playing like idiots

Mueller is at his best playing off the striker - he is not a central midfielder or a winger

Ozil can play AM but also occupies the right side with no problem - so let the two of them interact in those roles on the top of midfield and also let Ozil operate deep in midfield at times with Kimmich as a winger. Crosses from the right need to come from Ozil and Kimmich who are both good assisters - not from Mueller!

The 6+8 or 6+6 need to stay further back - Khedira should not be playing ahead of Mueller!

    Drax should simply be dropped

reus brings shot volume as the left sided forward

It's no accident that the team looked much better in a 4-1-4-1 once Sami K went off

He was causing 50% of the problems with his stupid play

And then Mueller played more central with Reus on, and the band of 4 could control midfield better with Kroos holding deep

What sucked was how poor the left flank was

Agreed the 4-1-4-1 or 4-3-3- or 3-4-3 will work much better for us.....And i dont care what everyone wants to say about oezil, he should get benched for this game ....

I'd certainly prefer to bench one of Ozil/Mueller in order to play Dawg at the top of midfield

I'd prefer to keep Ozil as the faux right winger instead of Mueller as he is the only player in the squad who is elite in assisting.

Reus and Dawg can bring actual goal threat from the left and central areas.

Khedira i would dump for Rudy to free up Kroos more

Ozil to shine he needs a fully functional fluid system with movement, Germany are far from that, he's a luxury Germany cannot afford

That's why Plan B is for him to mainly play from the right and deliver assists from there

When Arsenal were completely broken this became a go to play because one thing he can do is create 3+ key passes per game even in a poor team

We need a DM that will sit back and not go beyond the halfway line under any circumstance

you are dreaming if you think Loew will drop Ozil, the problem is definitely not in Ozil

absolutely agree with you, Ozil can play in the right, bring crosses into penalty box, Muller move closer to the center, the two can interchange during the match, I think we need to bench Draxler, I am Draxler's fan, but he seems lost his shooting ability, in critical match, you need goal threat more than anything, someone who can finish, I hope Rues can do that.

I would do the line up as it is:
    Muller up top
Reus left, Gundoan middle, Ozil right
    Kroos Rudy
    Hector, Hummel Boat Kimmich

    Sorry lol,
I should have explained, I like your predicted line up, it's just that Loews is to stubborn and has his favourites whom he backs no matter what
