    Except it isn't.
There's a reason why all the pay TV networks are pan Arab, and even then they had to consolidate to stay alive. The subscriber numbers are just too small.
As for free to air, the ad revenues aren't enough to justify expensive programming. Even in Egypt, which is the largest market, their FTA networks can only afford cheap programming. Digital distribution is under-developed and poorly monetised.

Basically it works for both sides: For rights holders, consolidating the region into one market makes sense, as having a series of auctions for small fragmented market rights will not yield much. For the broadcasters, holding the rights for the entire region improves their ability to get a return on their investment.

    Welcome back BTW

    Maybe he lost a pact.

Anyway, tomorrow's the big day. The first 45 minutes will largely determine the tone for the rest of the tournament. Need a good start.

But these are not the only sides that matter. look at the mess we are in right now. we are neither rights holders nor broadcasters. The nation as a whole including us consumers are not benefitting from this set up.
There are smaller regions in the world than Saudi Arabia who are not at the mercy of a pesky small neighbor.
We must not be part of a larger region. I'm sure there is a legal way to separate.
Besides this is a monopoly, which can argued to be illegal under international law.

Guys, what's your expectation for the match ...
My wish is Saudi win 1-2 against Russia but expectation is 50:50 i.e., either Russia wins OR draws the match but Saudi winning the match seems a wishful expectation as Russia drew with Spain 3-3 and with Belgium 3-3 whereas, Saudi result against Belgium was not something to speak about.
However, on a positive note, Saudi did played very well against Germany a could have had ended the match in 2-2 draw if Sahlawi would have converted the last minute chance to score provided by Taiseer... Also, if Saudi plays against Russia the way Saudi played the 2nd half against Italy and Germany then there's no doubt in mind on who will be the winner of the match eventually.

The only thing Saudi needs is to "Attack" and let the nerves cool down.

Bein sports does not have any monopoly in Pakistan and Star Sports and / or ESPN will broadcast the world cup matches there which only cost Pak Rs. 500 monthly as a normal cable connection.

It is vital that we win, anything less than a win on this crucial opening game will dampen down the performance of the team against the other opponents in this group.

    I go game by game.
If we lose this match it's pretty much over already, and Uruguay and Egypt matches become a matter of pride.

Egypt match will be decider only if Saudi has some favourable result from Saudi's match against Russia (like at least a draw) while assuming that Uruguay wins all the matches.
Big players think that Saudis don't have any chance against Uruguay because there's not much option for Saudi Arabia in attack with only 2 lack-lusture forwards.

Saudis should play against Russia as if:
this is the 1st & last match of the tournament, and most importantly:
as if its a do or die situation which is more than a matter of pride.

I am here my friend. Its just that life is very busy. haha!

    NEVER! :)

    TRUE TRUE.
100% guaranteed Saudi will lose against uruguay. They only have a chance against Russia and Egypt.
    Uruguay will win the group.
Anyone who disagrees before the games start. Please feel free to chime in. And not after the fact!

I tend to disagree about the result against Uruguay. Suarez was not in top form last season plus he’s bit slow. Cavan I can be trouble maker.
I don’t recall any superstar defense player apart from Godin. Coates is ok..

Ofcourse first match will be huge in deciding if the team can progress but Uruguay is beatable or Atleast hold for draw

Bureyk is starting. So sharani is gonna play at his natural position.

Sahlawi is also starting over Muwallad.

Omar Howsavi is the worst worst worst .... infinite times worst... worst player i've ever seen in Saudi colours... 2nd comes Yahya Shehri .... the 1st ass hole defender cannot defend, cannot pass properly and has no i.e., absolutely no creativity whatsoever... 2nd is Yahya Shehri ... he is a total Moran on the field who does not know how to make quick passes...

the deepest shit is that Saudi went down 5-NIL which means there's no confidence left in the players... I see Saudi just filling up the numbers in the World Cup and taking the flight back to Saudi after 2 more matches...

Wonder what Italy & Holland be thinking at this point when they can easily see that despite being among the best teams in the world cup, both of them sit out and jokers like Osama Howsavi, Yahya Shehri, are in the world cup...

I recon Uruguay will totally rape the Saudi team by 10 or 11 or more goals...

I am feeling angry in writing above but surely, this team has no future in any world cup... go on keep on playing foreigners in your local club for the cause of domestic glory and keep wasting your own talents by not playing them... this is your result.

Now, we will hear shortly that the Coach is fired by the FA... putting the shitty performance responsibility on the coach and not on the players... Osama Howsavi should only be dancing on the sidelines among dancers, not playing in the Saudi team...

I wonder what H.H. Prince Mohammad be feeling right now after this dismal and yet again, another embarrassing performance by Saudi...

Better Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia qualify to next round... And Saudi should search their own local talent in Defense, Attack and Mid-Field in the local league by not playing too much foreign talent... The era of Yousuf Ethnian, Majeed Abdullah and Sami Al Jaber was the best when only 3 foreigners were allowed and rest would have to be Saudi.

With exception of Salem Al Dowsary, Abdulla Autef, Yasser Al Shahrani, and Buraik, all those who played the first half were shit on the field.
Again with exception of above players and Bahberi, Muhannad, all those who played the 2nd half were just making up the numbers in the 2nd half.

    Shots on Target = ZERO

    Disgraceful performance.

Like I said, "100% guaranteed Saudi will lose against Uruguay."

    Sloppy.

Omar Hasawi deserves the chunk of the blame. Its not so much about his defending when opposing teams are in possession, it's his sloppines with the ball.

I have time and time again have encouraged this team to try out Jahfali who is much better and confident with the ball but he didnt even make it. Lockeroom politics and hierchy most likely.

Russia didnt score a single goal out of buildup, it was all sloppy turnovers by the midfield and defenders. These Defenders are always putting the midfiled in embarrasing situations. Otayf is there to fix that problem but his lack of physicality showed. He is just too weak.

Kinda feel bas for Taysir, he seemed like only the guy that runned non-stop and he's practiclly 40. Dawsari did a fine job helping sharani defend the flank though.

Faraj is such a lazy defender.

Sheri was awufl. Was responsible for so many turnovers. There's a reason why he didnt even get a single minute with leganes.

They need to skip the lines and just go for quick through passess.

The more they try to pass the ball around in the middle, the more they're vurneable to counter atracks.
