i don't get all the comments about our forwards being invisible. we were defending for our lives and playing ultra conservatively. the forwards did exactly what they were supposed to do and you only get a few chances in a bunker system and we capitalized on it. I think we are doing fantastic given the situation. win or lose this is FANTASTIC experience for the kids that will be our national team in the next world cup likely
Excellent, opportunistic strike by Green, taking advantage of a gaffe by France. It's the only thing he's done. Before that I was going to say why not just play Sargent and Novakovich to learn something since Wood and Green were not providing an outlet. It's often one moment. That's football. Adams, Parker, Trapp, and Miazga have had multiple moments. Tough to play out with how congested they are at the back, focusing on d. Not one for entertainment rather the result.
It's fun to hear Taylor Twellman trying to defend the USSF's nonsensical setup against Ian Darke pointing out the obvious.
Other than winning outright, what would be considered a win? This first half has to go down as unexpected. And other than nerves, we settled in pretty quick. So, two halves in a row?
Anybody else here impressed by Miazga? He's making good plays defensively, and he's clearly the best passer in the group. A couple of time, if his teammates had better touches, he was bypassing the French midfield into good attacking areas....
Off topic, but fwiw, I don't think any Druze believer would remotely call their religion "a sect of Islam." If Casey Kasem were alive, I guess you could ask him.
Yedlin -- > Mooore CCV -- > Weah Sarg -- > Wood --------------Parker-----Miazga-------------------- ----Yed---------------------------------Robinson---- ---------------------Trapp----------------------------------- -------------Adams-----Wes------------------------------- ---Weah---------------------------------Green---------------- ---------------------Sarg------------------------------------------
I'd like to see Miazga and Brooks in the back, they both pass well. Have been impressed with Parker as well
We're playing this one for France's sake. They just learned that when facing a bunkering team, you don't stop talking to your keeper, otherwise he falls asleep.
All pretty spot on, but to Green's credit it was hit with good power and placement from the that angle...but Lloris should never a million years let that in.
Not actually terribly far. I think 40% would count as a success in possession against France, and I had said 5 legit chances earlier...if Wood holds the line, we have 2, including the goal. We've been quite good defensively.
*This* is actually the moment he was scheming for all those years ago when he dropped Lando. You know those Germans plan long term.
Careful with that. There are many here that think he's garbage because he isn't the second coming of Pirlo. Even though every commentator points out how well he plays each game, so many still shit on him. Yes he makes the occasional bad pass, but literally, ever player we have does that too often. I bet you're a real joy at parties. No credit for Moore who put a cross in to a danger position? It wasn't to JG, but it was in a good area where you force the defense to play perfect or risk us getting a chance. And that's what happened. Part of soccer is putting the other player/team into positions where, if they mess up, you capitalize. Honestly, it's like a bunch of people never follow the sport and expect us to be great at everything while every other country sucks. The French lineup is ridiculously good and are more talented than anything we have on their worst day. Yet so many seem upset with some of our midfielders. Reality check people. Sarachan needs some credit. I dislike him strongly as a coach, but he has had a strong gameplan so far and the players are executing it. Credit where its due.
Indeed. I still lol when I remember we posted back to back away wins against the Netherlands and Germany a couple of months before blowing it in the Gold Cup.
I feel so much more confident with Steffen in goal than I have any other US keeper since the last World Cup.
Jurgen always did put a high premium on winning friendlies, and as a German he always knows who the real enemy is. It was a brilliant gambit to sacrifice the 2014 World Cup in order to spring the trap on France today...
