Maybe we should focus more on the failure of MLS to keep him in our country than the success of their league in keeping him in theirs.

Their league scouts our backyard better than we do. The mirror is all that's needed for the USSF to find the culprit as to why he's with Mexico.

Exactly, with Alianza doing all the leg work, Mexican Federation just swoops in.
Not sure why USSF cannot do the same? It is not rocket science. Why do you want to ignore thousands of well trained kids?

because the USSF is not interested

most likely is because of what it is said in the article in the link, most latinos don't feel identified with the USMNT or MLS, why develop players that don't want to play for YOUR league and national team? from that standpoint it the USSF/SUM/MLS ignoring those kids isn't actually that wrong. I certainly as a fan don't like when Liga MX teams decide to develop players from other countries, wile mexican-americans are technically US citizens most of them have no loyalty to the program and might as well be foreigners.

BS. Another apologist for the USSF disaster pushing his ideas and pointing no blame. Nationalistic crap like this smells like Arena.

Exactly, they can be playing anywhere in the world. The philosophy should be 'Leave no coin unturned'.

The entire national team concept is a wholly nationalistic enterprise.

He'd be a good long term replacement for Fernandinho... Jona's passing skill are top notch... However, he needs to work on his shooting...

This is simply not true. How many Mexican-Americans have gone to Mexico under amateur contracts? Hundreds. How many have become LigaMx starters? 15ish? How many have become International Players for Mexico 5-6?. How many have become Mexican starters and stars? Zero. Gonzalez probably being the closest one because he was a top US youth prospect who switched.
Just different youth development structures. Most of ours are amateur not directly signed by a professional team yet. Most of Mexician-Americans sign with youth LigaMx youth teams. Our structure funnels players from non-MLS youth teams to MLS teams. Their structure funnels LigaMx youth teams to Liga Mx first teams. Different ways to get to the same place.

If he added a qualifier and said "scouts Mexican-Americans in our backyard better than we do", would you agree with that? Have we discovered more than 15 Mexican-American players good enough to start in Liga MX? How often have we only found them after Mexican teams showed interest? I'm asking because I don't know, not because I'm trying to make a point.

That's closer to possibly being true, but my point still holds true. Our systems are just different. Many of our Mexican-Americans play in OUR national amateur systems. Liga MX scouts and signs 13-14 yr olds who never really sign first team professional contracts. So really how is that better? LigaMX just signs them in mass then hope for the best. Is that better. I'll be quite honest with you our MLS teams have been only playing development and only over the last 2-3 yrs have teams stepped up with quality staffing and infrastructure with many still clueless. Until MLS opens up the country and allow any team to sign any youth player for a significant salary most Mx-Americans should go to Mexico. I hope this YAM incentive helps the domestic youth player but my concern is that it will be used for Argentinians and other South Americans.

He really feel off at the end of the year. Don’t think he was playing with the confidence needed to help Mexico in Russia.

Not close at all considering Osorio didn't take any full backs to the world cup.

well in true yank form he did make it dos a cero...

but you have a point....i stop following players once they renounce the USMNT even if they are technically "yanks" and I wish that was a separate sub-forum "non-eligible yanks" or something like that.....
