It's been an issue for years. We have fullbacks who aren't great at defending. They are ********ing awful at crossing. The only thing they do well is find space. So what ends up happening more often than not is matches like tonight where we concede a goal because our fullbacks can't defend. And then we waste multiple opportunities when they over hit crosses. And it's always the same. Over hit crosses. They either go out for a throw in or just turn it over.

Last week and tonight. What a waste. But least it confirms a few things. Jack has to go. Welbeck has to go. Mustafi has to go. Ospina has to go.
All not up to championship standard.

Up at 5am for this. I don't know why I bothered or what I expected. Complete lack of heart and urgency from the team. We would have gotten more out of the team that played Man U then we would have the scrub lords that took to the field tonight.

But hey least Arsenal fan TV will be fun to watch. Blud. Fam. Wenger is already on the way out might as well give Bould the last 3 games.

Superb game management in the last 15mins. They killed the game in a way that we could only dream of under Wenger. Same as always, midfield possession, no cutting edge and a complete blunder at the back. Wenger out

Looking forward to watching an Arsenal time where I can't predict exactly what's going to happen minute to minute.

MOTM was Chambers for me - if such an "award" or "honor" is appropriate. I was deeply concerned with Koz going off, and him being the only legit CB. He made several huge tackles that kept the scoreline flattering to us.

Another thing, we made one tactical substitution so it just goes to show how incompetent Arsene is. AMN was MOTM against Utd and didn't even warm up tonight. We have a shit bench but that's on him too

I threw this up on the Arsenal Australia Facebook. I said give Bould the last 3 games and instructions to play kids and the players we will keep next year who have contracts in place.

So far I've been called a ******** head and a plastic.

It's funny because it's only Arsenal where this happens. With the footy club I follow when we were shit in 1999 and the coach announced he was leaving, they didn't give him the last 3 games. And they blooded youth to give the fans something for next season.
So we face Burnley next and I think it's at home. And people will be surprised by a low turn out (unless it's the last home game of the season).
But if the players can't be bother turning up for a European Semi then why would peoe show up to a match that means literally nothing V Burnley?

Some of our fans are strange.

Why were the crosses so bad?

Yet another disappointing end to the season.

I watched some of the recent champions league matches. The gulf in quality between Arsenal and the champions league teams seems to be huge. The new manager is going to have a lot of work to do to get Arsenal back to champs league quality.

Thanks to the Birmingham Gooners for letting me watch the game with them today.

Arsenal needed to score and not let the other team score. Arsenal did not score and let the other team score. This is not surprising.

The Wenger Era ends not with a bang but with a whimper.

The next few years are going to be long ones, I fear, but my hope is we can spend not too long in purgatory but eventually challenge for titles.

I had the same thought about Callum as MOTM, near the end of the match, after he made his 3rd tackle/block in a row, in our box. And that's saying something because I've NOT been keen on Chambers... that's perhaps an overstatement. But a lot of that was based on his poor trials at RB. The last 2 games at CB he's shown a real difference. Maybe there's hope yet???

Kos's injury (what is it an Achilles rupture?) was strangely a bit of a relief. He's not been at his best for a while now. I felt it was a toss-up between him & Chambers as to which would more likely gift them a goal in 2T. But since he's had this really chronic Achilles problem for several years now, I've been thinking that his days of being an automatic starter are just about gone. And unlike Callum, I've been a big backer of Laurent over the years.

So the "relief" part? I'm relieved that we don't have to pretend that Kos is the dominant lynchpin in our back 4 like he used to be. I'm relieved that we can now promote/recruit a new starter. And I'm relieved that Kos's injury will probably force Arsenal's hand to make CB a BIG priority over the summer. Lastly I might be relieved that by rupturing his ligament, ironically it might give him a better chance of re-achieving his form & fitness. (I'll admit that this last idea is a bit of a stretch... I'm no expert on that type of injury, but I've heard that sometimes is easier to fix a tendon that's ruptured, rather than something that's just chronically strained or inflamed.)

All that said, it's very sad for him that he'll miss out on what was probably going to be his last World Cup. And I think that's what was going through his mind when he was violently slapping the pitch, immediately afterwards.

I was oddly calm during this match... a completely different feeling to Leg 1 where I was frustrated beyond belief. I guess my expectations were just really low going into tonight. But the people around me in the pub (probably 15-20 Gooners) were flipping out and screaming n the last 10-15 mins. So maybe I'm just abnormal? Don't answer that.

Nothing new needs to be saId . It’s been a broken record for the last 10 ********ing years. I don’t know what I was thinking that we could’ve won this game, I guess fans are always eternal optimists . What a consummately arsenal way to lose a tie shambolic defending, lack of composure, no end product, terrible final balls, players basically shitting in their pants at key moments .

What a goddamn disgrace this team has become .

Wenger did this. That is his legacy of putting himself over the club.

If I had to sum up tonight's game in a phrase? We lacked balls.

And it's not just tonight. Here's to hoping we find these again with the next manager.

Didn't watch the game because of a crazy deadline. Not a surprising result: we lost because Oblak was a mutant octopus in the first leg.

I echo your frustration but that’s all hyperbolic
I suspected that we were in trouble when money “opened up” and we didn’t buy a single outfield player

Agreed. I'm so livid at the collective clusterf*** this has become. The lads had 2 legs of a European semi-final that included 80 minutes where they were a man up... and the best they could muster is 1 goal. 1. Measly. Goal. For a club with the pedigree and budget of Arsenal this has to be considered unacceptable. And on top of Arsene's personal hand in messing this up, the players themselves, with a European cup final on the line and a chance to be in the Champions League (for those that are staying), put on this lackluster display.

    Yay.

Agreed. Ever since the club announced several years ago that their budget had more leeway Arsene's had the chance to push harder for titles or at least maintain the status quo. Instead he's hemmed and hawed and tinkered around the edges to do things his way because there was no pressure by the club to actually win. Meanwhile the team missed out on Klopp or other candidates that could've kept the team at least up among the CL contenders.

    This is all his doing.

There's a huge chasm between what Arsenal's budget with "more leeway" is and what players needed to push for titles/trophies cost. We're far gone and there's no way to bridge the gap unless we get us one of these free spending billionaires. Unless there's a calamitous market adjustment I don't see any way for Arsenal to compete financially to get us back to where we would all like to be.

Best you can hope for is an occasional FA cup imo

This includes being too moralistic to tell the damn truth about the financial situation. Maybe his time in Japan made him more like this, because there was nothing a Japanese naval officer loved more than going down with his ship.
