Dream no more it's called The CONCACAF League For the new club tournament, runner-up, third, and fourth place teams from from the 2017 Caribbean Club Championship, taking place in the first half of the year throughout the Caribbean, will join 13 qualifiers from across the Central American region – two each from Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama, and one from Belize. A total of 16 teams participate in the CONCACAF League: A total of 13 teams from six associations of the Central American Zone. Ordinarily, these teams would come from seven associations, but Guatemalan teams were excluded from this season's tournament. A total of 3 teams from at most three associations of the Caribbean Zone. Clubs may be disqualified and replaced by a club from another association if the club does not have an available stadium that meets CONCACAF regulations for safety. If a club's own stadium fails to meet the set standards then it may find a suitable replacement stadium within its own country. However, if it is still determined that the club cannot provide the adequate facilities then it runs the risk of being replaced. The CCL tournament currently employs a 16 team knockout format and is played between February and May. Each round consists of a two-leg home-and-away series with the winner determined by aggregate goal differential. Fifteen teams qualify automatically based on domestic performance, along with the winners of the CONCACAF League, played at the end of the previous calendar year. A total of 16 teams participate in the CONCACAF Champions League: - nine from the North American Zone (from three associations) - at least five from the Central American Zone (the champions of Costa Rica, Honduras, Guatemala, Panama, and El Salvador) - at least one team from the Caribbean Zone (the champions of the CFU Club Championship).[8] - the remaining berth goes the winners of the CONCACAF League, played between 13 teams from the Central American Zone and 3 from the Caribbean Zone. It somewhat surprises me that neither of the CRC slots has surpassed any of the USA slots... I would've expected at least one. However, I can see where at least a little bit of the problem lies: Herediano's run to the SFs a few years ago was done as the CRC3 team, so all those points they earned have kinda evaporated for this new format. Also, the year after, you had all four USA slots advance to the SF, precluding any advancement points going to any smaller nations, and USA outdid CRC 3-1 in each of the first two years too. All USA slots aside from USA3 though are definitely at risk of falling below a CRC slot once the 12/13 points rotate out, though.

If Chivas wins both legs, they'll jump to about 57 points overall, passing 5 or 6 teams. If Toronto wins both legs, they'll jump to about 52, passing something like 12 teams. If you want ranking chaos, root for Toronto.
If the Canadian team makes next year's semi, they'll probably pass Mexico then. Mexico's 2018 total maxes out at 14.875 - that puts them 19.375 ahead of Canada. Then, the 2013-14 totals get wiped out, which closes the gap by 14.125 - total difference of 5.250. That's not a lot! If Toronto wins both legs of this year's final, Canada's total jumps to 78.000, and they'll be well ahead of Mexico when the old numbers get cleared at the start of the next tournament. The issue for Canada is that with one slip-up, they're basically ********ed.

Canada will begin the 2018-19 cycle just 1.500 points behind Mexico. EDIT: And in things that I find incredibly amusing, the New York Red Bulls will jump to 4th in the club coefficient. Silly question.. Is Canada being so high because they only have one club in the competition and that club generally does well? From a "I don't know sh*t" standpoint, it seems odd that Canada would be so close to Mexico given how well Mexican teams do in CCL.
Yes. Canada's results fluctuate wildly for that reason. The country coefficients are essentially an average of the performance of all of your teams, so a year in which Canada gets its only team into a final is going to have a higher score than a year in which Mexico has two teams go out in the semis, even if they lose to other Mexican teams. On the flip side, if the Canadian rep flames out early, the score for that season is ruined, because there's no opportunity for anyone else to make up for it. See: 2013-14 and 2015-16. If Canada gets additional berths in the tournament because of the CPL, and the CPL is at the level that I think most people expect (USLish), then I'd expect the Canadian coefficient to drop below that of the US pretty quickly.
And I'll add that, if you're looking for a more accurate assessment of league quality, the MLS coefficient would be 56.300.
