I doubt we have anyone lined up yet. It was just that time of the season to talk about who should be managing the team next season. It will be interesting to see who gets brought in. It's probably too early for Arteta or Vieira, and we will face competition for some other managers like Jardim. I wouldn't be surprised if we end up with Ancelotti for a year to give us time to make a long-term appointment.
Indeed. But I'll admit I had a different word than jinx in mind, when reflecting on your Wenger predictions over recent months.
Had the same thought/hope. And here's hoping it gets leaked well ahead of June 1. I'm assuming it makes us feel more assured that is!
Depends on who else is out there. If the person we want long term is someone like an Arteta, makes sense to bring in an experienced caretaker type who can work with a new institutional structure. If we're looking at someone whose been around a while, makes sense to bring that person in right now.
Oh boy! There's an unpredictable character I don't think I'm ready for. He's brilliant until something innocuous ticks off him off and he resigns.
Yeah this. The new guy isn't going to manage the rest of the season, but it's going to best for all parties if we know who he is. He can evaluate the players in anticipation of the upcoming window, and more important, the players get a chance to know who's evaluating them.
Do you remember his Marseille "run"? Hired, something ticked him off and he resigned two days before the season started!
987369854503211011 is not a valid tweet id This is a good point. Wenger's successor is going to have a tall order, and things are going to worse before they get better. A caretaker will have to deal with the squad construction issues.
Seeing an uptick in reports and mentions that Brendan Rogers is climbing the favorites ranks to replace Arsene....just no, please, no.
I am just so glad he is gone He was like that girlfriend that you stick with for months after it turned to shit
My top 3 Allegri Simeone Jardim I love the Monaco link with jardim and the Lacey youthful sides he’s created with a mix of experience Bring Fabinho with him
adding to this, it's a World Cup year (it feels odd saying that since USA isn't in it...), so doing transfer business early tends to pay off before player fees go way out of whack, and since we'll have players who won't be back for pre-season right away. Getting transfers done early is definitely better.
Also, just saw this list of Wenger's stats at the club. These range from comical to amazing... http://www.football365.com/news/arsene-wenger-at-arsenal-the-ridiculous-statistics
To add to these stats, if Arsenal manage win the Europa League Cup, they will have won four cups in the last 5 seasons, second only to City with 2 Premier League titles and 3 league cup titles. These cups aren't the premier league titles everyone wants, but they suggest that Arsenal aren't the dysfunctional disaster so many on this thread seem to believe they are.
It's not like England or the UK had a long queue of young managerial talent ala Tuchel and Nagelsmann lining up to become Arsenal manager.
Don't want him either BUT he's good cannon fodder. The next guy most likely won't be successful. Let's get our Moyes and move on before the dust settles.
I'm seeing this now as the last, great Wenger transfer negotiation: Wenger: I'm not leaving the club before my contract runs out. Board: Ok W: Not happening. B: Ok W: If you want me gone you'll have to sack me! B: Ok W: Otherwise I'm not leaving. B: Ok B: *leaks lists of potential new managers to journalists* W: After much consideration, I will be leaving this year of my own accord. After 70+ pages of this thread, it's finally over. I'm really excited for the next chapter. But I can't help but spare a thought for this idiosyncratic and iconoclastic man who we've all felt such a strange connection to for varying degrees of time. I have deep admiration and respect for him. I only wish he could have had the self-awareness and wherewithal to get out when the time was right. Bon voyage, professeur.
