Unfortunately, my knowledge of women's footy has nosedived the last few years. Too many leagues, too much Norwegian mediocrity etc., etc. I feel like I'm now among the ghosts of the ponytailed hooligans, bless their screeching souls.

Sorry for the necro post, and for ruining the effect: Its not a quote, per se, but I believe it is a reference to a USWNT fan club the Ponytail Posse that was around in the WUSA/Mia Hamm era. For reasons that are obvious to anyone who went to a match during that time period (or even now with young fans of stars like Morgan), such fans have been dubbed on some BS forums as the ponytailed hooligans.
Thank you very much: it took 6 months but I finally had a convincing answer. I know @Bonnie Lass is not likely to read this, but, going back to her original post, I wonder if brilliant Norway's qualification for WWC 2019 vs Netherlands did anything to lift the team from its perceived mediocrity. By the way, there will be an interesting Japan-Norway friendly in a pair of weeks!
