Who: D.C. United v. Columbus Crew What: MLS game 6 When: Saturday, April 14, 2018 Where: Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, Annapolis, MD Why: Mid-season construction completion DCU: 0-2-3, 2 pts., -5 GD, 11th in East, 21st in MLS CLB: 3-1-2, 10 pts., +3 GD, 4th in East, 5th in MLS Form: DCU: DLDLL CLB: WWDWLL Previous Results March 24: CLB 3-1 DCU 3 points are a must. Will 2017 DCU defender of the year Kofi Opare be able to see the field for what has been one of the league's worst defenses? Will Canouse return? Will we win? Will a combined supporters section lead to issues? Does anyone care? Ousted NDL Brillant Birnbaum Mora Durkin Arriola Segura Acosta Steiber Mattocks Clark, Opare, COA, Canouse, Moreno, Asad, Mullins
For the combined supporters' section, apparently the Barra will be there, but not be there, if that makes any sense. Probably doesn't mean the drama will immediately be lacking, considering the shenanigans at the Houston match. Ousted apparently picked up a bit of a knock and isn't guaranteed to start Saturday. I don't see Asad starting out on the bench.
Agreed on 1, I seen 2, and I feel like Ben has rotated all the attacking pieces so far except Asad so maybe it just is his turn. He could also see Asad as untouchable though, in which case Steiber is back out.
You are right that it would be Asad's turn to sit in the rotation if that's what he's really going with. But he is a tough one to sit. Shame there's not another formation that the team could play to get all its best players on the field at once.
looking at google map pictures from each group, I think I noticed that the "not Barra" tailgate and the Screaming Eagles "not tailgate" are on opposite sides of the stadium - but I didn't look closely just to make sure the pictures weren't of the stadium from a different angle so both might actually be in the same place. One day it has to actually happen so I'll say it again: DCU: 3 Austin Villa: 1
I wonder if they will continue wearing Borussia Dortmund's colors once they move. I'd miss the uniforms if they changed.
yes, perhaps, fuggitdaboutit, catfight, not enough to lose sleep. And although it's even more unlikely than a United 10-0 shutout the supporters singing "My bags are packed, I'm ready to go" in tune should at least get a good dig in before the cowlumboids kick our ass. As long as I order Anchor Steam, I'm never completely wrong
There is beer at the Navy stadium, right? Someone at work said they thought it didn't because Navy or something. I mean I know Navy folks can't hold their liquor but they do try.
What I want to see: 1) SOME inclination that something was learned over the last two weeks. At a minimum, I want to see better understanding between Acosta and some of the new parts, and some way of working Mattocks' speed to our advantage that isn't just over-the-top-and-hope. 2) Effort. I know, our current coach's proclivity towards making that the deciding factor for a player makes saying it a bit awkward right now, but they've had a week off and will follow this with a week off. Everybody better be flying toward the ball. 3) A result. This team needs one badly, based on Arriola's comments. Prediction: 2-2. DC gets a PK in there somewhere, and Asad scores again.
I want what you're drinking. There's a word for a win in a situation like this. Rhymes with funlikely. Not impossible, but there's a reason we have the record we do. And "Nick Deleon and Hope" just doesn't have much ring to it, you know?
I don't want to see DeLeon in the starting lineup. We've seen enough of him in recent years to know that he brings little little besides "grit" to the lineup, and the fact that that seems to be enough for Benny is an indictment - of Benny. I say take a risk. Play three in the back (Mora; Birnbaum; Brillant) with Durkin and one other midfielder in front of them (Durkin and maybe Segura, unless Canouse is fit). Then have Stieber and Arriola on the wings and Asad and Acosta in the middle. Replace speedy but ineffective Mattocks with less speedy but more soccer smart Mullins up front. Acosta can become a withdrawn forward at times, and Moreno/Canouse can move up to replace him.
Goff's expected lineup is same old/same old, except for Clark. He still expects starts from DeLeon and Mattocks, with Stieber as a sub. I go for a 3 man back line (w/o DeLeon) protected by Durkin and maybe Segura, Stieber, Asad, Acosta and Arriola across the middle, and the smarter Mullins in place of Mattocks. Acosta can slide up to withdrawn forward and Segura can move into his place. I think it's folly to use Stieber only as a sub for Arriola. They both need to be on the pitch together. Asad doesn't have to play on the wing, he showed that in Atlanta.
Sorry to interrupt and go off topic but I just wanted to let everyone know that I'm doing a prediction contest for the upcoming World Cup. It basically consists of predicting the results of each match, from group play all the way to the final. Different points will be awarded based on whether you predicted the outcome (who won or was it a tie?) or the exact result (including penalties after extra-time). Depending on how much interest there is, I might do a second one starting from the Knockout Stages. Anyway, let me know if anyone is interested and please feel free to tell others (the more the better).
Early pressure sets up Segura for a goal in the first minute. Pleasantly surprised to see Mullins up top.
Arriola should have beaten the keeper there... He slowed down and let the keeper have it. What a puss move.
Brilliant almost got the header on goal from the corner kick. Didn’t realize the field is turf. It makes my eyes burn.
