Mustafi would be fine as a 3rd or 4th choice. I guess we gotta see how the big Greek kid develops.

Can't we have both. Plus buy someone even better. Kos seems very near the end because of his achilles. Chambers has never convinced me of his potential for quality and reliability.

That match went from looking like it would be very dull, to an exciting match, and then going batshit crazy in added time.

In his brief outing I thought Holding looked the most composed of Arsenal's center backs today. He may be Arsenal's most physical defender.

I've seen some opinions that Wilshere behavior showed the kind if fighting spirit that Arsenal often lack. For me it just showed petulance. He continued to tug Stephens' shirt after he had passed the ball and finished it off with a hard enough tug to tear the shirt. He wasn't playing well and was reacting to a tackle by Stephens that he thought had been a foul. In the past we've seen him attempt reckless tackles after losing the ball. I think it's time to finally part ways this summer.

I’d be really interested to know what the factors that lead to his signing were.

If it was the analytics department that pushed for him, as is rumored, I’d like to sell StatDNA back to its creators. If it was Wenger, well then I think we’re all on the same page.

Kos was the last good cb we bought

    That was 2010 right?

Actually Per in 2011 wasn't a bad buy. In three of the four years Per and Kos each logged at least 30 league games, Arsenal were top three in fewest goals allowed. The other year they were 4th. They worked because they complemented each other. Kos stepped in passing lanes while Per sat to cover him and if Per struggled with a player with pace Kos could cover him. Kos and Mustafi don't complement each other, they both want to step into passing lanes.

We need at least two cbs even if the Greek lad develops
Mustafi should go back to bundesliga and try to rebuild his career
Chambers is destined for mediocrity in epl

Mustafi is “physical” but his tactical awareness is just awful ...

StatDNA pushed for him, but I doubt that Wenger didn’t know who he was, or that Wenger hadn’t watched several dozen hours of Mustafi playing.

Sometimes you make mistakes. That happens.

That was my point. It's not an either/or between Mustafi & Holding. You can keep them both. Mustafi's decent cover at least, and possibly he might even be better than that. Holding shows promise to possibly becoming one of our preferred starters. Then, assuming that Kos is not going to hold up, and there's enough budget, seriously consider buying a (near) elite CB this summer.

Ive noticed that in a ton of sports the past 5 years. A different team in a different code I follow brought someone in because he had great speed and endurance and statistically was an excellent shot for goal. However, he would go so far up the field to get the ball and his field passing was so poor that it totally negated the positives.

I watched that happen for years, and then Sanchez started doing it for us too.

He is awful. You cannot trust him and yet he thinks he should be captain.

I cannot wait until Ozil starts rocking that 10 shirt next season. Wilshere has to go.

while you may be factually correct that it is possible to have both and mustafi could be depth, practically speaking, we are not a club that can have 35M sitting there as depth. if he is not starting, we would need to consider recouping the investment, even if it is for a loss.

like bigman said, you need the right combo. mustafi needs a partner to boss him around and think for him. koscielny does his own thing and expects his partner to do his job so they don't make a good partnership.

the fact that, however many years on, ozil still is not rocking no 10 for us is ridiculous.

Started slowly again, conceded another sloppy goal to go behind (Mustafi ugh!), came back and created chances and win narrowly in the end. I've seen this film so many times! It was nice to see Welbeck get the winner after missing from underneath the bar, good on him for getting in there again. The forward play got better as the game went on, the management really need to look at the way we start games though. It's very rare we seem to be at it from the first whistle any more.

After watching MOTD Elneny's red card is really soft. The players on both sides lost their heads at the end for no reason I can fathom in a game which wasn't played with any malice at all.

Not sure why people are knocking Ozil, he makes more goals than anyone in the league. Now the team is more of a quick passing side (Aubameyang instead of Giroud and Mkhitaryan instead of Sanchez) going forward it will suit him even more. Everyone has their weaknesses, his finishing could be better, but he is a very positive player for us. Anyone expecting him to go thundering into tackles or compete for headers is deluding themselves, that's not his game and we've had plenty of other players (real greats of recent Arsenal history btw), who weren't up for that either. It's about getting the balance of the team right to allow your creative players to affect the game.

Wilshere is immobile and a poor passer. If he were mobile or a good passer, we could make it work (though the latter would render either he or Xhaka redundant). But right now, Wilshere's just terrible.

    He isnt anything good.

I don't know why Wenger still plays him. He isn't being kept around and he isn't helping us win matches.

I do really feel bad and ultimately blame Wenger for his career trajectory. Jack was overplayed as a young player and it stressed his body and broke him down, but we play much better without him. And he is still has an immature temperament.
