As we've reached yet another winter/spring nadir, but one that's even deeper than ever (I'll skip the depressing stats), I thought it might be a good time to update this periodic science experiment... of both how we feel and also how many of us are still active on BigSoccer. As a history refresher... Poll by @antifan from AUG2013 Results: 81 votes, 64.2% OUT, 35.8% in https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/where-do-you-stand.1992569/ Poll by @thebigman from SEP2015 Results: 59 votes, 57.6% OUT, 42.4% in https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/where-do-you-stand-2-years-on.2025083/ Poll by @NorthBank from APR2017 Results: 32 votes, 81.3% OUT, 18.7% in https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/and-now-where-do-you-stand.2042609/ p.s. All votes are respected, especially those brave loyalists who vote stay. p.p.s. The poll stays open thru 5/31 so if you wanna wait to see how things go for him, i.e. our last chance at a trophy and Euro qualification, you may!
Echo bandwagongooner. I've been staying active reading, but haven't posted in like two plus years. Most of you guys state the way I feel. I don't have any bad feelings towards Arsene Wenger at all. I am proud that he's been our manager and the way that he has represented the club. But, he's been needing to leave for the past couple of years. We don't need to hash all of that out. Bottom line is if anyone wants to save the club they have to step in now and cut him loose. He needs away from the club for awhile. If they want to bring him back to the front office, etc. at this point they need to give him a few years away so that his shadow isn't looming over the next appointment. The players desperately need a new voice and we can argue all day about the players but they are the ones we have at the moment. I'd say bring in a cleaner like Ancelotti or Hiddink type. Let them know they are just here to right the ship and finish the season while we look for a true successor.
And now the pendulum swings back slightly, with 3 victories on the trot, including advancement to the UEL Quarterfinals... but the vote's still 100% against Wenger. I woulda thought we'd get a few brave souls voting for him. Like the 12% of the Arsenal Supporters Trust who voted for him a week or two back. The other historical metric I was tracking was the total number of votes, and so far that's continuing the steady downward trend from prior years. Which is likely due to the decline in both BigSoccer generally and Arsenal specifically, i.e. the fairweather supporters have pissed off. This thread is open til the end of the season, so let's see how things end up.
He should go. He's been a great servant, done great things, but doesn't have an edge any more. Even the recent big money signings, as much as they're welcome, seem like a reaction rather than having a plan. I would even go so far as to say, as harsh as it sounds, that he should be sacked now to give a new man a chance to see what he has got first in the last part of the season so he can make a good plan and have proper transfer targets for the Summer.
I get frustrated too but I'm patient enough to give him his one last season. I'm particularly curious/hopeful on how a full season with Auba and Mkhi will turn out.
Thank you for having the balls to say this, and also for being the first person to vote for him to stay one more year. Although I can't say that I agree, I completely respect that you didn't get influenced by all of the bullying bullshit that goes on here on a daily basis.
I got into Arsenal during the dry spell so trophies are less important to me than the idealism of wengerball. I just want the team to play a slightly more direct style of it & i believe that should bring better results. It feels like so much of the game falls into cycles of luck & confidence with fans and pundits overreacting to the turns of form. I don't wish to push the panic button just yet and become like all the merry-go-round clubs I despise, especially when I know this team still has great potential.
