I pretty much completely agree. However tho Amiri is a cancer one thing he has shown to have in the past which the team severely lacks is balls.
Honestly what is there to talk about? We have no proper domestic league, no exciting upcoming prospects, and the team seems to have no direction. The head coach is 80 years old and unlikely to stick beyond this year. We will probably go into 2022 WCQ with the same squad and except a different result.
Time to start a complete rebuild from the management down to the players. Focus on domestic players who are complimented by Europe-based players.
It will be best for Afghanistan if there's a full investigation on the federation elections and we are suspended a few years. This team is going absolutely no where.
Not only have they regressed, but they are also extremely unlikable. Why should I invest my time in a team which brings back players who quit on it and are accused of throwing matches? Not to mention that they were missing several top players for some reason.
If there is any brain in the AFF, they would immediately sack the current coaching staff, and start building for the World cup 2022 / Asian cup 2023 qualifiers. Start investing in a core team of u23 / u25 national team with 2-3 over 25 players as experience. start building the core team, and together building the domestic talent.
What happened to U19 team? Is true they do not participate in qualification for 2018 AFC U19 tournament? Wikipedia page shows they have withdrawn. After U16 did so well and reached final tournament.
Hi guys, I'm interested in your opinion regarding Petar Segrt. You may be aware that he was recently appointed as Head Coach of Maldives. What do you think about his coaching methods, his temperament and player management? And why didn't he last in the Afghanistan hot seat despite having a decent record there? For me, he's making all the right noises here so far, but appears to have fallen out quite spectacularly with the old guard of the Maldives national team, and he's barely been here for a couple of weeks!
You are very lucky to have him. When he gets a job he becomes very passionate about the team and the people. He wanted to live in war torn Afghanistan to check out domestic talent but the AFF did not let him. Thing is he does not allow corruption to go on that is why the AFF sacked him and if there is that at the Maldives federation then things could get sticky. Under Segrt Afghanistan played the best football we have ever seen and we probably would have made it to the next round had he stayed.
That's a shame for Afghanistan, but that sounds like Segrt alright. I've really liked the way he has begun his tenure in Maldives. He appears to completely immerse himself into his role by being there at the National Stadium to watch every match (probably the only perk of having all top flight matches played at a centralized venue), analyzing videos of our recent matches and taking a no-nonsense approach to unprofessional players. Like you said though, I'm a bit worried that the no-nonsense approach may bring his tenure to a premature end. He has already kicked out our long-term talisman and captain Ali Ashfaq out of the matchday squad for failing to turn up to the pre-match press conference, resulting in the vice-captain Ashad Ali retiring from international football just hours before the match being played right now. It was a gutsy decision that none of our previous Head Coaches had the balls to make, because the old guard of the national team had too much influence over the team. For far too long, these players have been given the license to behave like this because they knew they would never face repercussions. Ali Ashfaq always appears to get injured for away matches, but miraculously recovers in time for home matches against Bhutan, Laos and other lower ranked teams. The same sub-par defense kept getting picked even when they leaked goals for fun and the rest of the 30-somethings have kept giving half-arsed displays for the last few years. We have head to cleanse the national team for a good few years now. If Segrt gets sacked before the end of his contract then we don't deserve a good coach ever again.
Sadly in these Asian countries it seems the football culture is not yet strong enough to hold these corrupt federation accountable. In European countries you could not get away with this bullshit. I am not surprised to see at all what Segrt is doing over there in Maldives. He has a no nonsense attitude and will get rid of unprofessional players or players that are obviously way past but are somehow still playing on the team. Sadly this is exactly what gets corrupt federations like ours upset which is why he was sacked by the AFF. The AFF wanted him to invite Zohib Islam Amiri and when he refused they sacked him 1 day before our friendly with Tajikistan. I really hope you keep him. If you do he will lead you to a SAFF trophy no doubt.
Speaking of him, did you know that he is now playing in Maldives? You may be able to catch him in action if you follow the AFC Cup. Maldivian football has weirdly turned into something of a favourite playground for Central Asian footballers.
Football/Soccer is dead in Afghanistan. No league, no academies, no grassroots programs, just a bunch of a-holes wanking each other off with FIFA world cup money every 4 years. Having a European-based squad is clearly not the answer since most of these guys couldn't care less by the looks of it. Honestly I am surprised that we aren't suspended by FIFA yet.

I've given up hope on Afghan football tbh. Corrupt warlords run the AFF so what do we expect? Tho we are doing well in Cricket and MMA atleast.
Be positive guys, we have our U16's team in the final qualification of the U17s World Cup. Yes we didn't make it to the Asian Cup, however, we have a young team, the bulk of the team is still in there mid 20s. As normal, any nation whom havent qualified for the World Cup or continental tournament will have a 'dead' moment which in Afghanistan's case in 2018 year. Mid 2019 is when qualification for the next world cup / Asian Cup will be held and we should see some traction then.. Until then, write off 2018.
