The grid iron counterparts go out of their way to make it a big deal. They take the initiative. Too few of the college soccer programs bother at all. To be fair, some posted recruits on twitter. But not many. Stanford, North Carolina and Akron - you know, three of teams in last year's College Cup - didn't post a thing. Neither did UVa, Maryland, UNC, Georgetown, Washington, Duke, etc.... If the schools don't try and create interest, we can't expect the sporting public to be interested. It is, and always has been, on the programs, specifically the coaches.
iu did. with welcome videos and a description of each incoming player by coach yeagley. it was fun to see the signing day pic and welcome video for coach's son Ben. as far as signing day as a whole, it's hard to get too excited. i haven't seen any of these boys play, and there isn't the hype around it like college football has. there's a whole industry based on recruiting and who's going where there. perhaps we will get there some day once tackle football is banned, but i don't think that's likely with the DA system growing in importance each year and the best players skipping college all together.
Akron will post recruiting class late, as is their wont. I will spare all of us the tedium of presenting these recruits piecemeal.
To be fair,Duke posted a welcome on Twitter to all seven of their signees. But I get what you are saying about lack of effort as a whole.
Yes, they did it right. Todd gets it. But thats something it should be on the coaches and college soccer as an institution to build. The sport is bleeding prospects, more than basketball, even, which at least gets the top kids for a bit. They need to do more to not make college soccer irrelevant. The original poster said he wants soccer recruiting day to be more like football recruiting day. My point is that college coaches have to push and claw to get it close to there. Duke did a nice job. Kudos to them.
Rafanello is definitely a Jeff Cook signing. As we discussed in the college thread on the YNT forum, he was at the YNT mega-camp last month and had originally committed to Drexel. But Cook knows him from the Union and obviously they wanted to continue to work together.
Not sure how this looks on Cook. Was his club coach and clearly a verbal commitment means nothing to him. Doug Hess must be fuming.
Yeah. And some of these foreigners, er, internationals, will be very good additions to a fairly large recruiting class. Europeans are coming. With few exceptions, domestic recruits are from NEO, which is just fine by me. The somewhat ironically named Internationals SC is gaining prominence on the national stage. For those not knowing, ISC was founded, and is currently run by longtime Zip George Nanchoff, a man who many jokingly call Godfather to his face. Brecc Evans (Defender) A four-year player with the FC Dallas academy program, the 6-4 Evans (right, far left in image) has been invited to two of the last three camps held by the United States U-19 Men's National Team. Trevor Mowry (Goalkeeper) A member of the United States National Team U-17 player pool with two national team invitations, Like a lot of soccer dorks here on BS, I keep a file of the YNT call-ups from the U17 level on up. Neither Evans, with the 18s, not Mowry with the 17s, was called up in the last cycle. They both seem like good prospects with impressive resumes. (I mean, I would to see a 6-4 CB show well and get a call-up to the YNTs and I hope it happens!) Not sure why Cal Poly felt a need to lie about them. Every player needs a hard training and lot of sweat out time before they represent their region. Children today are more active and aware of their present and future aspects. If you’re kid shows interest in Soccer today then give them the boost they need. Let them have the time of their life and regret never.

If you look at the choices, you can tell where the club is...which gives some insight into recruiting and possibly family influence. Take a club in New England or Mid-atlantic and see where the players go...most are nearby. Is that because the local college coaches have relationships, don't need or have money to go further afield often or because players will stay closer to home unless they get a major offer? Players can be seen at the tournaments but coaches often want them to attend 1-day camps, visit campus and talk to coaches. That seems to increase the percentage of players who stay close to home.

It is difficult for a boy to get recruited to a school that is a long way from home. My son is going through that right now. Outside of the Academy showcases it’s hard for these coaches to see them play. And expensive for us to go to camps that are at great distances If we can even go at all due to schedule conflicts
So much depends upon presentation of the recruit. Forgive the controversial analogy, but it is a buyer’s market for NCAA MSOC. You need to catch their eye. Video highlights are a player’s resume.
