Good explanation Hadzjia. I still don't think that it would affect me much so i could really go either way on this.

What about the issues with throttling? Also if it's true that companies are forced to charge users, how is it that the prices keep increasing in North America, yet in other parts of the world, internet is usually much cheaper(and better speeds in a lot of cases). Something is off.

Throttling is specifically prohibited under the new / old law. Has specific sections that detail that it's illegal to do so.

Also as a end user it is important because Google and Facebook keep spoon feeding you their content because it's not an even playing field.

    Also the price thing.

Internet price has gone up because telecom can't charge Google and Facebook to cough up the dough for it.

Once telecom's can charge the big internet companies you will see cheaper internet prices.

I highly doubt that we'll see cheaper prices as telecom companies will want to recoup "lost profits" from past 30+ years where they pumped money into infrastructure upgrades and maintenance but couldn't charge the Googles and Facebooks of the world who were benefiting off of it.

Same with my water bills. During every drought my bill jacks up yet during rainy seasons when reservoirs fill up past capacity they still jack it up stating some BS reasons.

Aha; interesting. Well to be fair. Not like the telecoms haven’t done their fair share of lobbying. They have fought the expansion of fiber optic cables all across America.

Yeah i have my doubts as well. Here in Canada especially, there are only 2 big players and so why should they keep prices low when nobody else is competing with them? Good point on water bills too.

Different pricing tiers and also it's just theory at this moment.

Calculate how much internet you are using per user × devices and you should be able to find a good enough package to save some money.

Not every soul in the US needs 1G of internet.

Also, I would blame Google and Facebook for building heavier and heavier apps / browsers which suck off more from the infrastructure.

Phones can handle at max 1.5mb of data download. Most companies keep plying on data downloaded by devices without a worry because their not paying for it. The user in reality is paying for it.

    Jesus christ so much shilling...

    1. ISPs pocketed billions of taxpayer's dollars which were intended to be used for major FIBER infrastructure upgrades by 2000. Obviously, they never met this deadline and pocketed the money instead. Not only that, they don't really operate in an open and free market. The price of entry of becoming an internet service provider is so insane that you only have a few companies operating in that space without really any competition. You know.. unless you're one of the big 3 who was able to grab the infrastructure for basically free. So ISPs will never invest in adequate infrastructure to give us better speeds for cheaper prices when there is no competition amongst them. Customer satisfaction only matters if the customers have options to go somewhere else. Also, good luck competing when they also lobby out the ass to ensure you won't be able to compete.

    https://www.huffingtonpost.com/bruce-kushnick/the-book-of-broken-promis_b_5839394.html

    2. In no way are these ISPs creating this infrastructure by themselves. Comcast / Verizon get the land and ability to build it from government permissions and eminent domain. They don't just buy the land, there is a working partnership between government and the utility that is paid for mostly by TAXES (our money). Almost all of the infrastructure was built on the taxpayer dollar (digging up, materials, laying the fiber). The internet providers just agree to maintain and organize the network. Which is why treating the internet like a utility makes the most sense.

Also, I'm curious to know why you think Facebook, Google, or even Netflix doesn't pay for their share of the bandwidth used..I'm sure any corporation that utilizes an ISP is paying enterprise scale pricing for all that data.

Second, Facebook, Google (Youtube), and Netflix are content providers. They provide content and users who pay for their own internet subscriptions use that service. All they're doing is supplying the content just like Comcast/Verizon/ect are supplying the access.

Of course you could be like Time Warner / Comcast and own Hulu, then throttle a competing company like Netflix because you complain it uses too much bandwidth.

    Lol shilling....

Net neutrality repeal specifically says throttling is illegal. Hate using something from the Donald thread but it's the best breakdown.

Is that an actual video or someone playing jokes? I was trying to find it but couldn't..Never heard of memri tv(channel on youtube has like 1.6k subs). I don't agree with everything the guy says but i can only speak for whether he helped me(and thousands of others) and to me he's much more interesting than a guy like Harris(or even Shapiro who is smart but tends to be immature with some of the shit he says). But anyways...

Took his online understandmyself test too and it's crazy how accurate it is. Apparently i'm quite low in agreeableness and also low in compassion..I went to my bro after and was like..'Holy shit dude, i'm a psycho!' lol

    Its from a recent interview

Memri is basically a meme now, they take screenshots of radical looking preachers from the middle east and write crazy subtitles. For example:

Now we have Ayatollah Peterson as well.

Thanks Sudzuka. I actually never saw that interview before. I don't know what to think of his answer about women and men in workplace. Years ago i would have sided with the guy(interviewer) but i'm not sure if i agree or disagree now...It's complicated because males seem to be more and more defensive nowadays(heck they have this entire group called mgtow..which in some ways is pathetic but then again the law really does favour women and in some places by A LOT.)..Some things are better divided imo so not sure what to think of that answer from JP(again i don't agree with everything he says). What do you think?

I noticed so many more dislikes on that video but going through the comments it seems many got offended that VICE was trying to make JP look bad..I don't think it was that harsh honestly..The guy is a bit clueless(judging by some of his questions) but whatever, no biggie. Cathy Newman thing was hilarious though..I loved the "You are a provocateur arent you?"

Funny shit with spongebob and kebab one.

Oh and i found that question about Jews really interesting but he didn't want to answer it...Wasn't it a bit weird? Now is it because a) he has a lot of Jewish friends(he mentioned it on some video) and didn't want to say something offensive or b)because it's a complicated answer and he didn't feel like he could answer it well(which would be understandable). Or maybe it's something else..but anyways, it's a bit strange.

I saw that article he's talking about. He got embarrassed for trying again that bs about alt right and now he wants some fame(not many even knew about the guy before..now he will get that chance)..Then i tried to read this one and after reading 2 alt right statements(which seems to be this guy's main point) i gave up because he's literally one of the very few people who think that. And perhaps you if you agree(confirmation bias at it's finest).

The best critique that i read recently was from some unknown guy(Joe..something) that mentioned some stuff i agree with. Like why not debate certain groups(what's the harm? why hide jewish question?), is it for money?(it's a legit question). But heck even if he's just bsin'g people(which you would need a lot of proof for because dude is really smart), it's still a genius job. Heck if i could say shit i don't believe in to make people give me millions, i'd do it right now. :)

Watched a 2 hour thing on Slavoj Zizek last night from Colorado College.

Jesus that man is autistic. He can't sit still. Keeps on rubbing his nose, touching his cheeks, hands all over the place. Very smart man tho.

I don't see the validity of the critique against him that he uses big words for the sake of using big words. He uses big words to condense his argument and to focus on specific definitions.

However, his biggest knock I think is in his brain he still thinks he's a child. He talks as though he doesn't even live in this world but in his ideals, ideas and elsewhere. Which make him borderline out of touch. But he touches on many important points and theories.

I find these philosopher types to be crazy in many ways. I listened to one who might actually be alt right in his views(Stefan Molyneux) and that dude is nuts in the way he says things..It's kinda entertaining even though a lot of the stuff i don't even agree with..I'll have to listen to Zizek a bit more just to see if there's anything i can learn. To me his last article seemed from a guy who was jealous that not many knew of him and the fact JP was making so much from people and taking advantage of them..hahah..I would have definitely said the same before but now it's like, who am i to judge how someone makes money? If you are able to convince the masses, even if it's total bs, it's pretty genius imo.

In that article there's some good comments from both sides. I like this one the most.

Zizek draws some lines of demarcation on minor issues. I agree with him that Peterson sometimes goes to polemical extremes, and sometimes mobilizes scientific data to that purpose (although, if these are published and rigorous findings, then he has basis to pull them out if he wants to). I also have a more nuanced approach than Peterson does to French Philosophy, poststructuralism, etc. But these are minor issues.

Most important is the way Zizek defends political correctness as if to weaponize it and turn it against Peterson. Zizek says--to paraphrase--'PC is responding to real oppression' and Peterson would hardly disagree that what transgender people might face, etc. is real suffering. Peterson just proposes different solutions to the problem of suffering, oppression, etc. "The oppressed" is made up of persons or groups of persons, while political correctness is a thing, an apparatus--and by the way, Zizek and Peterson are in agreement that this apparatus is wrong and destructive. So when Zizek seems to say, 'what about these oppressed persons?' he is asking a false question and playing a sophistical game.

I started listening to Bret Weinstein more and i like this guy too. Apparently he's quite progressive and says he hasn't changed(even after that Evergreen stuff). Smart guy though, will take a look more of his videos.

Zizek is a world famous Marxist philosopher, i’d said more known than JP.
