Just the U20 game, NFC Championship game and then going between some college basketball games... Pugh Pugh Pugh!!!
Speed of play is crazy and everyone is working really hard. US has the best idea of what they r trying to Ive seen in a long time. Passing is still spotty and and they depend too much on getting the ball turned over but...oops all world run by Pugh. Davidson doing fine.
What took so long for the U20 update on espn? That game went final at the same time this went to halftime.
Lloyd in for Dahlkemper who I didn't realize was in Smith out for Sonnett Most of the US play has been on the right.
The goalkeeper is still horrible. Why was the defender standing deep in the goal? That was a goal for Lloyd. Dunn makes it 5-1 after a generous rebound after a Press shot about a minute later.
Why is Ertz in the game? A lot appeared to be going on with her toe at half and she has limped at times all half.
Denmark is not good. US of A wins 5-1 Ertz will have to pass on the Pro Bowl since the Iggles are going to the Super Bowl.
I saw what looked suspiciously like the late, unlamented 3-back for the U.S. Only this time all the back three were centerbacks. Ertz looked more like a centerback to me than a midfielder. And supposed fullbacks Taylor and O'Hara looked like midfielders. It worked fine. It seemed to me that the U.S. strategy going forward is to press hard with your three forwards -- and then replace them in the second half as they wear out. Press, Williams, and Dunn are substitute forwards any team would like to have. Lloyd looked good in her brief appearance.
Morgan, Rapinoe and the Pugh triplets were just all over the Denmark back line. They'll be looking over their shoulders for days. If this is the tempo Ellis plans for the team to play at all the time I don't see how Lloyd could keep up even if Ellis wanted her to.
Ya know, it's not just Pugh; it's Pugh!Pugh!Pugh! Did you see the wide open Rapinoe frantically waving her arms to get her attendion as Mallory attacked the defender.
I don't know how they can keep Press off the field. She has the best vision of any of the players. I think she should be playing in the "10" behind Alex if not at center forward. Horan doesn't have the speed to play internationally. Press, Pugh, Morgan, Dunn, (pinoe - let's be honest, she's getting kind of old) would be impossible to keep up with. Williams as a supersub with her speed could add value as well. Just cut lloyd - there's no point in keeping her around, and bring in another worthy NWSL player like Emily Menges.
Definitely not the same Denmark team that impressed so many last summer. How much of their poor performance was them being off their game, and how much was the US making them look bad?
The 13 strikers/wingers/midfielders who should be on the 2019 WWC Roster: Alex Morgan Mallory Pugh Christen Press Crystal Dunn Lynn Williams Ashley Sanchez Kealia Ohai (if 100% healthy) Rose Lavelle Sam Mewis Andi Sullivan Morgan Brian Carli Lloyd (if the press isn't working, and you're down by a goal in a knockout) Tobin Heath "or" Megan Rapinoe (whichever one wins this spot) Anything less would be uncivilized.
Ive been saying play Press behind Morgan for a long time. Press has a nice shot from the top of the box and can get it off against a defender. Press is a good passer and can make the short combining passes and medium passes ud expect from that position. She can defend in the pressure defense. She can switch with Morgan and take the back to goal role while Morgan becomes a passer at the top of the box. Press can run the break with the three forwards without getting left behind. Having Press replace Horan u do lose a heading presence and physicality when they defend in their own third but I think the advantages greatly outweigh the cons.
I love this As soon as the whistle blew here in San Diego, we had some good news for @julieertz...💚🦅@ZERTZ_86 & the @Eagles are heading to the @SuperBowl! pic.twitter.com/dI5MvG53VR— U.S. Women's National Soccer Team (@USWNT) January 22, 2018
There was no urgency needed when she was in the game. I fet bad for her. How do you play at the 110% you are capable of when you are up 4-1 or 5-1 at home late in the game? I sensed (aka IMO) she played less intensely than I know she can play. She did make a nice feed to Press after winning the end line, like she does, and Dunn ended up putting that one away at 81 min. [Yes, I have Lynn Williams - tinited eyeglasses.]
You have Tobin Heath "or" Megan Rapinoe yet somehow have Ashley Sanchez on the list? Sorry if I don't respect your player selection opinions going forward....
