Having a feeling this will resonate...

I never saw an instance of one of two disputants convincing the other by argument. I have seen many, on their getting warm, becoming rude, & shooting one another. ... the ill-tempered & rude men in society, who have taken up a passion for politics. ... In the fevered state of our country, no good can ever result from any attempt to set one of these fiery zealots to rights, either in fact or principle. They are determined as to the facts they will believe, and the opinions on which they will act. Get by them, therefore, as you would by an angry bull; it is not for a man of sense to dispute the road with such an animal.

Even Thomas Jefferson was dealing with political zealots, alternative facts, and "the fevered state of our country." This problem goes back a ways.

They want to remove statues and anything else that Jefferson did like our constitution. That tells you who the radicles are.

Just passed a big tax bill so we have some more money to spend. No democrats voted for it none. This February the tax payer should see that their getting more money by then.

Oh yes it was for the rich. They consider a tax break for corporations for the rich.

When I was a kid we were not jealous of the rich. We just wanted to get rich ourselves. Not anymore we are happy being poor now as long as the government pays our rent and gives us food stamps. If we make middle class we are happy with that. We want to be a good follower a sheep to be led instead of a leader.

This nation has been a "house divided" from the gitgo, and specific events, such as The Hanging Chads of Miami-Dade County, The Voting Dead of Chicago, or the rockin' tour of Douglas & The Dems...... . , were nothing more than surface eruptions on a turbulent sea.

"Animosity between belligerent Americans"...it's the stuff of ABBA, man...;)

    It was an Acronym-ious point....;)

Although if it was a choice between those two horrific ditties, I'd vote for Dancing Queen as the most horrific.

Come on Chicago gave us more than just the "voting dead", it also provided "Vote Early, Vote Often" (where they would literally bus voters around to different voting stations to cast as many votes as possible) ;)

So is Qatar in winter truly going to happen?

I keep thinking that at some point the powers that be will wake up and be like...”what was that all about...” and move it.

Thread should be locked, our chance of not making 2022 is greater than the chance of FIFA moving it to another country at this point.

I can certainly see the USA not qualifying for Qatar, either. USSF's not interested in fielding a competitive team any more. They only care about lining their own pockets anyway.

That's ridiculous. It's not just the small nations. France, Mexico, Argentina have proven themselves every bit as corrupt as Martinique or Mozambique.

I don't agree. I'd like to see this thread kept open as they try to implement their One city in the middle of nowhere World Cup.

There are 200,000 El Salvadorans in the US under TPS status. President Trump is planning to eliminate that in September 2019. Qatar is proposing that they be moved to Qatar. (It would be difficult for a small, poor nation like El Salvador to integrate so many people at once.)

I hope we can avoid the issue of the wisdom or folly of Trump’s policy. I’m just pointing out that Qatar desperately needs workers.

The three countries with the most convictions in the FIFA corruption scandal (2 each) were actually USA, Brazil & Trinidad. We got Blazer & Aaron Davidson with guilty pleas. So, we're up there.

Is that because we are more corrupt, or because our anti-corruption institutions are stronger? To me, it’s obviously the latter.

I think there is abundant evidence that corruption in FIFA is not limited to "third-world" or smaller countries, or African countries. It is an ubiquitous problem throughout FIFA.

There is a book coming out shortly where Blatter puts 2022 upset on Sarkozy/ Platini (it had been decided it would be Russia 2018 than USA in the executive counsel) but that French president Sarkozy “interfered” and Europe flopped to Qatar. He also Claims he and Sunil called Obama about it 9 or so days before the Actual vote (time line is kind of murky) to explain what happened. Also mentions a $100M bonus paid to FIFA by Qater for “winning”.
