The city of Netanya was named after Nathan Straus (the owner of Macy’s) who donated the money in the 1920s for Jews to develop a town there during a period of general economic hardship there. It was common for places to be named after famous people or donors. Nearby Herzliya is just a town named after Theodore Herzl. Netanya’s name has nothing to do with Benjamin Netanyahu.
I was wondering if it was just the same root, which it is, or Netanyahu’s name was some form of “from Netanya,” meaning his family came from there.
No, his family's surname was changed by his grandfather from Mileikowsky to Netanyahu in the 1920s. The grandfather's name was Nathan so it seems to have derived from that as the family never lived in Netanya.
All news is local, even when it's ... not exactly correct. (Or has he already been cut?) Way to go, Jake! 💪 Former @BethesdaAcademy player Jake Rozhansky is headed to @ColumbusCrewSC! 🖤💛 https://t.co/yKJBNc8RUj— Development Academy (@ussoccer_da) January 19, 2018 (They did draft him, but this is just a -- not necessarily stupid -- selection of his rights, unless I missed something.)
No, this is just the Crew reserving his rights which I would have waited to do in a later round if I were them. Maccabi Petah Tikva 0-0 Maccabi Netanya Halftime Jake is not in the line-up for today's match.
I'm sure they would've preferred to do the same, but they picked at the tail end of the 2nd and their next pick came 20 picks later. Team started passing on picks just a few picks into the third round. So maybe there's a gem hiding in there, but you're in dartboard territory by then. At worst, they trade his rights for ... a future third rounder.
Netanya drew 1-1 with Maccabi Petah Tikva. Nico Olsak went 90 minutes. If Rozha sky gets a start against Maccabi Tel Aviv and Schoenfeld plays, there would be three Americans in one match which would definitely be a record for YA’s in the Holy Land.
http://m.one.co.il/Mobile/Article/17-18/1,947,0,0/306095.html?ref=hp Rozhansky received his Israeli identity card today (not an israeli passport, that comes later). One is projecting him to slot right into the Netanya starting 11 in their next match which is a cup tie against Ashdod. Does one graduate to the YA forum for a cup match or it has to be a league match?
Beitar Jerusalem vs. Maccabi Netanya Jake is on the bench. Meanwhile, Nico Olsak is in his usual spot in the starting eleven. Tonight could be YA graduation. Good match for him to play in. Beitar is a title contender this season.
He demanded to be put on the field in order to be promoted to the adult thread. "You have 10 minutes, either I'm playing or leaving for Al-Hilal".

Shall we change the thread title? And promote to full YA forum? Jake Rozhansky at Maccabi Netanya @bungadiri
Jake came off the bench at 78' as Netanya visited Shmona in Ligat ha'Al and won 1 - 2 Netanya up to 5th place
Just FYI, their openent was from Kiryat Shemona. The organizations in Israel that you’d drop from the name would be limited to Maccabi, Hapoel, Beitar, and Elitzur. You really only drop the name if there is one club in that city. Otherwise, you would say Kiryat Shemona, Bnei Sakhnin, Bnei Yehuda etc. The name is derived from the eight (shemona) men who were killed in the Battle of Tel Hai in 1920.
Jake entered the match at 67' mark as Netanya hosted Bnei Sakhnin in Ligat ha'Al. They were leading until they were issued a red card and the game ultimately ended in a 1 - 1 draw
He has made second half substitute appearances in Maccabi Netanya's three League Cup games to date. Last year he played 275 minutes in the league (13 appearances, 2 starts).
Jake has been loaned to Hapoel Katamon (Jerusalem) in the Liga Leumit (2nd tier) for the rest of the season. He came on in the 61st minute in their last match. Expect him to get a whole lot more minutes versus Maccabi Netanya. Pleased that he will not ride the pine anymore. He needs to get minutes/confidence.
