If he had constant communication with Bruce and then got butthurt because of not getting a call before a friendly overseas when US Soccer was in this interim situation, and this was a major factor in his decision, then he's pretty short-sighted and weak. I'll be happy to have him if this is false, but otherwise I don't really care.
If true, this hurts, but if we had to lose a player to Mexico then CM is about the only place we could afford to lose one. Still, I'll believe it when I see it.
The downside of stripping away everything (which needed to be done) is you don't really have anyone to engage in these recruiting battles. Everyone has either been fired or is in lame duck mode
I must have felt a disturbance in the Force last night. For some reason I was thinking about Gonzalez and how much his situation in 2018 reminded me, with some obvious differences, to Julian Green's in 2014. (The most obvious difference being that at this point, Gonzalez has done more to establish himself as a professional at this point. Oh, and that he might play for the other country, not us.)
Exactly my thoughts. Couldn’t agree more. To add to that, if true, it reeks of entitlement. Entitlement has no place in a true team sport. Our national team has been littered with entitlement and look where we are, sitting on the sideline, as spectators, for Russia. I really hope this news about Gonzalez is false. His upside is huge. However, if it is correct and the reasons are as rumored, good riddance. We are trying to get away from that entitlement.
Yes. Mexico is the US's biggest rival. He has exclusively played for US youth national teams. He has no loyalty. ******** him. Any other take is one that I find unreasonable for a US fan. Anyone who wishes him great success at the international level (looking at Wiebe and Lalas, among others), is not a fan of the United States. Period.
If anything I think that passage takes away from the credibility of the article. It's been Tab keeping in touch with Gonzalez, not Arena
He published a story on ASN, but it's quoting the Univision story, which AFAIK, hasn't been confirmed yet. I think I saw Tom Marshall on Twitter say he's had several sources confirm it to him. And edit. There you go. I can confirm @UnivisionSports report that Monterrey MF Jonathan Gonzalez, 18, will seek 1-time switch from U.S. to Mexico. Huge setback for #usmnt. Federation negligence.— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) January 8, 2018
If that's all it takes for him to leave, he doesn't need to wear the shirt at all, period. This isn't a club team. You're talking about representing a country. I don't want anyone who can't stay loyal to even such a simple thing as that anywhere near our NT.
