Nothing on ESPN. Three Wednesdays, none of which will certainly feature any promotions to help boost attendance. #DoomAndGloom

No LAFC either. The last game likely conflicts a little with the last day of the Quarter Horse Congress.

Last thing MLS HQ wants to do at the moment is give us more national exposure.

Come off a two week break in September to go three games in 7 days from Dallas to Portland to Home.

Last regular season game is at home?

Has to be--we pretty much have to have at least one October date, and that's the only one available due to the QHC.

That's what the info below the schedule states.

And even if you are one of those who have decided not to give fRat Boy any of your money going forward (which I do respect), I recommend reconsidering for this match at the least and make your voices heard.

But 4 in June--which is usually perfect weather for soccer in Ohio.

The odd part is a two week break from all games at the end of July/beginning of August. I know the All Star game is part of the reason for that....

Frankly, if you put one less game in March and one more in July, it would be reasonably balanced. We've always gotten stuck with March games due to having to be out of the stadium for three plus weeks in October (and two in August).

Guessing that July/August is All-Star Game and letting the visiting teams from other leagues have their little tournaments. Wouldn't surprise me to maybe see 1-2 MLS teams get involved there.

Another interesting note, not much of a break for World Cup. We have one game the day before the tournament opener and then resume play while Match Day 2 games are still going on...

We're not in it (both US and Canada)--why break?

Going to be 5 games played on The Fre turf in March (Double header of She Believes cup on March 3rd). Grounds crew is going to have their work cut out for them.

Also of note - our other March games are at Toronto and then at Philly. Do those slick new jersey's have heaters in them?

They (grounds crew) have always been up for it. The playing surface here has almost never been an issue (I think they did have to replace it once after a concert). That's assuming, of course, that Screwtape will actually hire a grounds crew this season.

Four of our last five are against Colorado, Philadelphia, Orlando and Minnesota. And the other is against perennial yo-yo Montreal.

They seem to want to have our drama around for the playoff push, with that late schedule.

”The debut of the newest venue in MLS will be the culmination of a challenging early schedule for D.C. United this season, as they will play 12 of their first 14 MLS regular season games on the road before the July 14 opener. The additional two games, which will be home matches for D.C. United, will be on March 17 against Houston Dynamo and April 14 against Columbus Crew SC, at alternate local venues to be announced at a later date.”

That’s from the league website. We could potentially miss out on our only ever opportunity to play in their new stadium, barring the stopping of relocation or a playoff meeting.

So looking at all of the schedules for all of the teams, nothing honestly looks massively out of place for our schedule versus the rest (even knowing we have 5 games in the first two months).

We have 10 home games in the first half of the season and 7 in the second half.
All teams are either 9/8, 8/9, 10/7 or 7/10. One oddity: Portland starts out with five straight away matches. Are they doing some stadium work?

Ten teams have five home matches in March/April (Atlanta, Columbus, Dallas, LA Galaxy, New England, NYCFC, Red Bulls, Orlando, Philadelphia and Sporting KC)

As far as home weeknight games (and I'm counting any M-F games), the Crew has 2. All teams in the league have at least one weeknight home match. Multiple teams (LAFC, La Galaxy, Toronto and Vancouver) have five of their home matches on weekdays.

Three weeknight games, only one of which is on the road...AND it's a 10:30 kickoff. This is FANTASTIC news for U-Verse and Dish subscribers who don't get MyTV.

If we had a new stadium how much would it help our schedules in the future? ( assuming we have a team in the future)

It may not be this simple but shouldn’t Warner climate teams have more home games early and late in the season while teams with colder climates should have more home games in the middle of the season?

How many teams have regular scheduling issues like we have with the QHC?

Should MLS try and schedule evenly as far as midweek games and games played staying consistent throughout the season ?

Not sure if it is possible but then in the colder months we could play 1 gm per week and start the season earlier or around the same time but clearly the need the playoffs to start much sooner so that the MLS cup final was in October at the latest

Should we change the schedule format like Eric Wylnada and others have mentioned to match the rest of the world?

However, changing the playoff schedule is not what the league should do, it needs to adopt the fall (late summer) to spring schedule that the rest of the top five leagues in the world play. It can keep the playoffs and hold onto MLS Cup, but adopting the scheduling norms of the best leagues in the world will help MLS and the USMNT. This issue, among many others, was discussed on a recent episode of the Total Soccer Show, and the entire podcast is worth a listen.

There are obvious obstacles to implementing this kind of schedule. The main one is weather. It is cold in cities like Denver, Kansas City, Salt Lake City, Toronto, Montreal, Boston, New York, Chicago, St. Paul, Columbus, Washington, and Philadelphia between December and February. But guess what? That doesn’t stop places like Norway and Russia from playing the same schedule as the rest of the world. They have come up with an elegant solution to things like cold and snow: they take a break in the winter.

Geography is often seen as a detriment to soccer in the U.S., but the diversity of regions where there are MLS teams is a benefit in this case. The league could take a break starting in early December, a month the league feels comfortable playing its championship game in, and start up again in February with games scheduled in cities with warmer weather or that have domed stadiums like Atlanta, Vancouver, and Montreal. This would not be difficult to plan for, all that is lacking is the will to move the league in this direction.

There would be obvious benefits to the USMNT for the league to adopt this schedule. For one thing, it would be in line with leagues in the rest of the world so national team players in MLS would be in form for tournaments and friendlies played during normal international break periods. It would also eliminate a gap between October and March for players whose teams do not reach the MLS playoffs. Players like Paul Arriola and Kellyn Acosta, for example, who did not make the playoffs will have 146 days between competitive matches assuming MLS re-starts around the same time in March it did this season.

What’s more, there are reasons for MLS to adopt this system. The league will not be holding its playoffs while the World Series, college, and pro football are in full swing. What’s more, it is super hot in nearly every single part of the United States and even southern Canada all summer long. Nobody wants to go to Orlando and play a game that kicks off at 4PM in July. It would also ensure that teams will be more prepared for the CONCACAF Champions League, which starts for MLS teams in February, because there won’t be a huge gap between October, or even late November and early December, and March when teams from Mexico and elsewhere in the region are in mid-season form.

It is time to stop asking what are we doing. It’s time to start asking what are we going to do so that answers and solutions to these issues can be found and resolved.

This is copy and paste and Just wanted to discuss this issue again to get everyone’s thoughts

Match the rest of the world? What on earth does that mean. Or do you mean "Match 10 leagues in Europe?"

Whoever wrote that cut and paste article really should be stopped from writing anything else.
