    this.

of course, when your budget restricts you to buying players with imaginary money and filling out the roster with retreads and rookies, lack of depth and the consequent late season struggles are the all too predictable result.

Maybe Nelson will sign 3 high profile GK's and then say he always saw 2 of them as more CB's than GK's and how everyone thinks you have to go to Argentina where the magical GK tree is to get a keeper but that isn't how he sees it. Then next year sign 3 number 10's or as he see's it, a true number 30.

Actually of the 3 scenarios 3 10's would be the best.

Just saw a synopsis of what all MLS clubs have done so far in the off season. Lots of subtraction for the Fire and zero additions. Here we go again ready to start another season with an incomplete roster

    the FO can FO!!!!

ALL the TAM/GAM is gone, no way in hell is uses the DTAM that's available, because that would come out of his pocket (well wife's).

Bottom of the table in 2018.

At least we're finally seeing us using all this TAM and GAM we've been gathering. Unfortunately, we're still being pretty stupid with it.

Chris Mueller has an above average passing game for college soccer. With some of the passing talent the Fire has he would be a good gamble in the 1st Rd of the draft . But I doubt he will fall to middle of the first Rd, he may go in top 5.

I would wait until the January transfer window closes before lambasting Nelson for not adding depth this off-season, it hasn't even opened yet.

If it hasn't opened yet how are other teams signing players and making themselves better?

I'm not saying the Fire couldn't have done anything, but the real cream of the crop becomes available during the transfer window. If we don't sign reinforcements during the window I'll be the first to criticize. I just think it's premature before the window opens. The Fire might have agreements in place that they can't announce.

I'm amazed there is any optimism regarding Nelson to improve the club in the January window. Although I guess with the current roster there is nowhere to go but up! Even Schweinsteiger turned out to be a questionably successful move.

As long as that fockbucket Hauptbube holds the strings we will languish...

Nelson used ALL the TAM/GAM to build our 2017 roster, because Andi refuses to use any of his wife's money. All he has is 1.2 of new TAM/GAM coming to make up the roster for 2018, now way in hell he uses any of his wife's money or the new DTAM.

    There isn't any optimism.
Even the "Optimism Thread" is dead. Not a post since October 26, 2017.

If Bastian does not come back, it was NOT a successful move.
I say this as one of the biggest Schweinsteiger fans on this board.

I'm hoping he comes back as well. He singlehandedly changed the style of play last year and his game isn't exactly one based on speed of motion (more like a calm slowing of the play down combined with speed of thought) so barring injury he should be productive and helpful in ways both on the field and off. I saw something about Adidas money being involved to keep him here for another year but I don't recall where that was? His jersey sales were #2 in the league but I don't know what that means in $$$. I know Adidas sponsored him in the past and a quick Google search yielded no current results however it's possible some of his salary *could* be defrayed by Adidas deals with MLS funny money & jersey money to keep him around since I would imagine MLS, Adidas AND the Fire front office want to keep him around so I am kind of hopeful they will work something out.

I'd rather not wait until February when the MLS transfer window opens.
