    Who did Sugasawa replaced?

Meanwhile, North Korea hit the crossbar. I am afraid this game can't be overturned, by now.

Last 10 min only Nakajima and Momiki were pressing...it's a shame that this crossbar didn't went in...a small earthquake is always good for wake up call. Lot to ponder on JFA...

I repeat myself, but to win this kind of games we need players who can dribble through opponent defenses.

We had long, ponderous possessions, but too much often, under Korean pressure, we had to recur to back-pass and start again from the back-line (or even from Ikeda) or to uselessy ping the ball in the midfield forever in search of an opening.
We were forced to play too much often with our back at their goal: we have to manage to turn, dribble and point to the box.
In this moment, it doesn't seem like we have this kind of players, except for Iwabuchi and Nakajima when at their best (not today).

Can anyone translate what Takakura said in her post-match interview? She looked rather disappointed.

...cuz its hard to find/ replace / rebuild player like Nagasato and youngsters in this team still are 10kgs and 30 caps far from beeing close to her level.

This Lechus7's reflection sinked in deeper and deeper in me. Maybe he's right. A win in this tournament could have given us the false impression that everything is fine, and could have led to stinging disillusions in the upcoming tournaments that really count in the next three seasons (AFC 2018, WWC 2019, Olympic Games 2020). Now we know instead that, at almost two years from the big stop of 2016 qualifier, the rebuilding work is far from done.

If we somehow manage to further adjust the team after this loss, maybe it could reveal a blessing in disguise. If we do nothing, it will remain just a sour loss at home.

I'm starting to be really fed up with her management.:(
Now may be the time when JFA should make some decision...before it's too late.

The back-heel one was indeed spectacular. The final one, from about the center of the pitch, can remind us of a certain Kawasumi's goal we all remember? ;)

The own-goal at the end of first half was quite random instead, and it's a shame, because South Korea was pushing for an equalizer at that moment and didn't look like a bad team at all.
Lee Min-A seemed quite lively: this is promising for INAC.

Is it really just Takakura's management or is it also other factors? JFA not investing enough in preparation and friendly matches? A lack of talent at the highest international level in the current generation?

In fact, if you also consider how few Japanese players are now signed by teams overseas compared to the 2011-2015 era, one can wonder if there isn't quite a gap. Do we really have a generation that can make a bridge between the glorious veterans from 2011 and the promising new players from current U-17 and U-20 Youth Teams?

It's true that Takakura looks like she's keeping tinkering with the team: no fluid system of play seems to emerge nor a clear indication of a core of "starting players" (as we recently noticed). Sasaki's 4-4-2 could have been outdated, by the time 2015 qualifier came, but at least it was a solid and well-tested structure: now, do we know which kind of system we want to play? 4-2-3-1? 4-3-3? 4-1-4-1? 4-4(2+2 diamond)-2? Yes, having multiple choices gives versatility to us and we can somehow adapt to different opponents, but is there a clear idea of how to build our game behind that? The continuous change of personnel doesn't help identifying it.

Also (I do wonder, since someone rightfully evoked Nagasato): there is a recurring discussion on USA boards about bringing Lloyd to WWC 2019 (she's now 35!): are we sure that cutting so many of the old veterans was the right thing to do? Couldn't some of them still be useful on the international stage, despite their age? Also: can there be anything personal between some of them and Takakura? :cautious:

I don't have no answer to all of these questions: just food for thought.

At this point I think it is fair to make an evaluation of Takakura and so far I have not been impressed favorably. Despite the criticisms that many of us expressed about Sasaki (fair the majority) I would rate him over Takakura at least for now.

Takakura has a plan, but even in friendlies where she said it was necessary to win or make goals, the team did not show a willingness to go to the front and create chances.

So far the qualification that comes to mind is "arrogant" because her plan is to play with the team of Beleza as it does in the local competition and does not seem to have a plan B or C, in addition to not using the best players available and try to "reinvent the wheel" like Sameshima as center back (being the best left side back and if she meed another alternative center back there are better options).

Against China it was the same to win for one goal or to tie, but I did not see the team hungry to do the second goal, it was the chance to try a more aggressive team and not only rely on possession and short and quick passes, which are useless against a well-planted and determined defense like that North Korea showed today.

I miss a player like Kawasumi (if Miyama is not going to come back) who can put precise centers that allow to have an additional weapon that none of the current ones has, but I know is it's useless if even Nakajima is not a starter. The Momiki's, Sumida's, Nakasato's do not impress me much at this level. Maybe one day they will be NT figures but I think they are still a couple of years away.

Finally, a phrase from Admiral Cunningham on the evacuation of Crete "It takes 3 years to build a battleship, but it takes 300 years to build a tradition" and Japan needs to maintain the tradition of being the best team in Asia and win competitions, which they managed to hold on to won the Asian Cup with a regular team and reaching the final of WWC 2015 with a mediocre team compared to London 2012.

I woudn't burn Takakura at stake yet but instead simply noticed (for JFA) that it's her first meaningful tourney where she didn't deliver. Same rules apply for every coach - limited number of free pass cards...She chose to build this team from ground up and it needs to be taken under consideration - it takes time. One card has been spent though. JFA would do nice with some friendly on schedule for January only if to ease the mood.;)
Nadeshiko lost today to strong looking NK side while under experiments with their own back line (on a side note I like those) but I don't read to much into it, as the same NK side couldn't secure their spot in AFC Cup while playing Korea Republic...
AFC Cup is next (Algarve Cup is in my mind only for tinkering) and that's the target for improvement. Will see there what's what.

Oh, and on a side note I consider Takakura far more better coach than Wiegman - best in woso in 2017. Takakura contrary to Dutch manager don't need Eiji Mori and Takeshi Okada as assistants to do her job. :p

    She says:
"We were somewhat able to express our purpose in the first half compared to previous games, but because we lost balance to get goals we gave goals in the second half.
We are on the growing way, but we would become a lukewarm team unless each player pursues each specialty, for example, like physical strength, pace or skillfulness."

I want to ask her, "so what kind of team do you want to make?"

Chifure 0-3 Cerezo (Nojima, Matsubara Shiho, Takarada)

One more happy news; Tamazakura Kotono played from '84 minute, maybe for the first time this year.
