Former Loyola head coach KV very interested in Towson. JMU has the best candidate already there just make the hire before you lose him.
Incarnate Word has hired.... from a previous post that someone posted it was mentioned that they were promoting the assistant, that didn't seem to happen. http://www.cardinalathletics.com/ne...cates-named-uiw-womens-soccer-head-coach.aspx
Well, there goes my credibility, I apologize. Let’s just say many in the state and region are shocked not only by the hire but also by the fact the assistant wasn’t promoted...not necessarily that he deserved its based on record, it was just common thought the last few weeks that it was a done deal.
If Sean Driscoll gets a look from UConn that would be a great fit. He’s shown he can win and do well in the Tournament. Knows the area well as he coached with Fairfield when they used to do well (different caliber of player obviously) and at the club level with CFC. Would utilize those New England connections well. And would have to imagine it’s a pretty good $ increase from Princeton.
Sean Driscoll turned UConn (and UMass) feelers down. Flat. Allegedly and rightfully he sees its better to babysit the #1 destination Ivy program than be on the hook with expectations to sell UConn. Ergo, a bad fit.
After the season driscoll had you would think he would be fielding a lot of calls. Very good job he’s done there. With us getting close to the holidays is there anywhere else getting close to on campus interviews or announcing? Seems slow right now.
Would seem my predictions were correct, with dead period 5 days away these admin can wait until first of the year to make hires and save paying the salary. Although, I could still see one or two announcing this week. Miami (OH) surprises me, basically its been open since August so why no hire yet?
No, my dear bogus second (or third) account. True. He has whispers and is not leaving. It's my conjecture, but he has an awesome situation. Princeton is the Stanford of the Ivy. He's not sweating money allowances (lessening both his burden and accountability), quality kids come to him. It's not like he's at Columbia or Dartmouth or Brown. Those places, i can see him bolting but he's nestled like a bug in the rug in the nexus of industry money. The affluent all want to go Princeton. He is very sucked up to. When he talks, he reminds me of Richard Haydn in The Sound of Music. He's rolling in greenbax.
Bill Tierney took a 30k pay cut to leave Princeton for UD. Part of that, i suppose is that he socked money away all those years on his way to approaching retirement but cost of living made it somewhat more equitable. Does Driscoll get that at UConn or UMass (the pay will be less, despite wrong presumption above) or anywhere else within the eastern industrial soccer complex? He also knows that he can't compete in women's soccer with national expectations from out of New England/north or the continental interior. Tierney has high supply, as with any men's sport. So the only way Driscoll leaves is for a boatload from southerly/coastal P5 or cali, and I still wouldn't think he would go.
zero inside info, but Princeton has huge financial need packages, meaning Pton can likely offer high quality soccer girls same cost of attendance (or lower) as fractional scholarship at P5 schools. Until female pro-soccer players make salaries typically in excess of several hundred thousand a year in a pro-league (which may never happen), the goal will always be education, hard to beat Pton. The test scores for recruited athletes and academic index are made opaque on purpose but basically talking ACT28 (if URM) or 30 if not minority are very easy to find in pay to play soccer girls. So makes no sense to leave top Ivy for run of the mill schools mentioned. Further, I doubt Pton cares enough to match salaries in money losing title9 sports if a coach wants to leave them they won't get a counteroffer.
curious if anyone knows if soccer test scores vary by school to school in ivies based on other sports . For example, Harvard's men's basketball team has greatly increased the talent level of it's recruits, does that mean they are trading ACT test points from men's basketball to other sports, so that the overall 'academic index' stays the same? Also, heard some schools value their hockey teams for example, so wondering how all that works while still maintaining an academic index across the athletic department...
To think an Ivy coaching job pays more than UConn soccer is ludicrous. Here is a 2011 article about Harvard. Average women’s sports coach there made $66,000. Doesn’t mention women’s soccer specifically, and it is Harvard in 2011, not Princeton in 2017. But this gives an idea. http://www.thecrimson.com/article/2011/4/14/teams-coaches-mens-according/ Now look at this. You can get state salary information pretty easily. Women’s Soccer head coach salary for Lenny at UConn in this 2017 article? $150,000. The men’s coach Ray Reid makes $323,000. I think a pay hike of $60-$70K and the option to go back home (he is from CT) is a good deal. No camp info but you can make a killing on either location for that. http://www.rep-am.com/sports/uconn/the-coaches/2017/01/26/womens-soccer-len-tsantiris/
http://ecupirates.com/news/2017/12/11/jason-hamilton-named-ecu-womens-soccer-head-coach.aspx Good hire, HC experience and AD gets to tell everyone they lured a power 5 assistant away.
The UConn guy was a state employee for oh, only, 37 years. Step increases and such? Like they're going to start a woman's soccer coach at 150k. If UConn gets a look from Sean Driscoll that would be a bad fit. Is there anything else you have on this dormant matter?
Yes great hire. Unlike Incarnate Word making a joke of Division I Soccer ECU have hit it out the park. Incredible hire for them.
They could keep the salary that high if they get the right person. I have to disagree that Driscoll would be a bad fit based on what he has done. Why not give they guy a shot? If someone has success at the level he has I think it is worth taking the risk that he may indeed be a good fit. Although Driscoll could probably stay put another year and take the Syracuse job when Wheddon runs out of his lives after 2018
Whispers, you're working under the presumption that it's UConn's choice to make and UConn has the leverage (which is typical of most women's soccer turnover) and that Driscoll would "jump" at it. It's completely the other way around and Driscoll has it way too good at Princeton. It's a bad fit for Driscoll, considering what he has, for reasons outlined by me and chch. UConn (more expectations, more responsibility, more vetting, more selling) is a far < flat move towards southerly/coastal or Cali P5 on a thinner rung. If he even wants the P5 thing. I think he'd career at Princeton, where he's king of the world... king of money...nestled in the womb of pay to play soccer...wahooo! yaaa hooo!
