I never knew City was that far ahead of everyone, have they played their games against the other top teams yet?

Man City expanded their lead from 5 to 8 when Man U lost at Chelsea. Out of the six pairings of top four clubs (1 vs. 2, 1 vs. 3, 1 vs. 4, 2 vs. 3, 2 vs. 4, and 3 vs. 4), four have been played. Chelsea has faced all three clubs above them. Man U and Tottenham have played each other. In December, Man City goes to Man U and hosts Tottenham in a three game span. Man U vs. Man City is the game after the Champions League Group Stage ends, and one or both of them could rest players on Matchday 6 if they clinch first on Matchday 5. Man U just needs 1 point at Basel to clinch first on Matchday 5. Man City has clinched advancing and will clinch first on Matchday 5 if they get more points hosting Feyenoord than Shakhtar Donetsk gets at Napoli. If Shakhtar Donetsk gets at least as many points as Man City, Shakhtar Donetsk could win the group by winning hosting Man City on Matchday 6.

Should City get at least 4 points from their matches against United and Tottenham, this will be another year where there won't be an EPL title race. If neither Chelsea nor Leicester were caught after December in their winning years, I doubt this City team will blow this pretty huge gap.

United are showing why their early winning run was due to their easy schedule. They were pretty dire in each of their clashes against the better sides. Tottenham might get close, but they haven't won a league title since the 60s. Chelsea don't have the depth to go far in multiple competitions. Arsenal and Liverpool haven't been contenders in ages.

I generally agree but its still too soon to be talking like that. Yes, its difficult to see Man City not winning the league this season but also not difficult to see is them dropping points in their next fixture away to Leicester City. Man City still have some frailties in defense. That could pull Man Utd within 6 points meaning they only need to draw Man City to stay involved in the title race heading into X-mas.

Within the next month we will know nearly for sure. It's easier to envision United fighting to stay in the top 4 than it is to see them giving City a tight race.

City will surely drop points, but so will the others. The other clubs each have very glaring flaws (United- attitude and quality, Chelsea- lack of depth, Tottenham- no winning experience, Liverpool - awful defense, arsenal - Wenger).

You know I was kind of thinking about that the other day. I wonder if Chelsea could pull a comeback and challenge Man City for the title. Man City must drop points at some point. They still have to play Man Utd and Tottenham. I hope Man City loses both. I want Chelsea to win it again, although its not looking too good right now.

I honestly think Man City and Chelsea are the best teams in EPL. Spurs and Man Utd are second.

I like Spurs but ya I agree Man City and Chelsea are probably the strongest. Man United doesn`t look they`re gelling yet, could change though. There`s a lot of expensive players on that team that want to be the main man, could end badly for them

United has 1 win, 1 draw, 1 loss, and a 0 goal differential against the three best Premier League clubs they faced so far, with two out of three games away.

They're better right now than the top teams in other UEFA leagues, even though they've only played one of them. Definitely playing better than anyone in Europe right now, but its only November.

The Martial goal vs Tottenham was against the run of play and really came from nothing. That goal is the only reason United have hung on to any chance of remaining in the title race. Luckily Kane didn't play.

They simply don't look convincing although winning 4 points vs Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham is still very important. The loss to Huddersfield was just as important though.

We will know more in the next month. United can't drop any points before their must win clash against City in December.

Most big clubs rarely peak before the second half of the season. There are simply too many matches where expending too much energy early can prove very costly down the stretch. Teams that aren't rotating enough now will pay for it later.

City do look great though and are the first team from the EPL in a while that play like a legitimate CL contender. Should the gap open up further in the next month, the league is over.

True, but City have good depth. I mean they haven't even been that lucky with injuries so far - Aguero got in a car crash & Mendy has been out for a while. And they still have guys like Bernardo Silva, Ilker and Gabriel Jesus coming off the bench.

I also think they will rely less on Sterling in the second half of the season and that will make them even better.

City not only have a starting 11 that is better than the rest of the league, their bench players would start for most of the other top EPL clubs. The only huge areas where they lack depth are CB, LB, and a sub for Fernandihno.

City are still a class apart in the EPL, but there are a handful of clubs that could absolutely eliminate them in the CL.

I think Chelsea has good depth as well, but Conte does not take advantage of it.

They are short proven goal scorers. Morata and Hazard are their only good out and out attackers. Even Morata hasnt scored over roughly 15 goals in a league season. Their CM depth is lacking too.

Losing at Huddersfield was bad, although Huddersfield is doing better than expected. What could be worse was a draw with Stoke City, who is 3 points and 4 spots below Huddersfield. The three newly promoted Premier League clubs are all in the top 11. I wonder if a top league with three newly promoted clubs has ever had all of them in the top 11 through 11 games. All three newly promoted clubs have allowed fewer goals than Liverpool and Arsenal.

This is really funny when you think about it. I actually quite like Huddersfield, so I am happy they are doing well, compared to what was expected of them at least.

Maybe if they integrated more of their youth players and recalled their better loanees, but I still do think they have a big drop off from the first 11 imo.

I've been really enjoying reading this thread, I don't understand why people are upset with IAF, he's clearly not trolling and his posts are very enjoyable to read even if I don't agree with everything he says.I do really hope Napoli find a way through, I think they are a fantastic team. How do people regard La Liga this season, there top teams strike me as stagnant and ageing, a sentiment that got me banned fro R.Madrid thread. I'm not surprised that the EPL looks good again, the best teams never really went away (apart from maybe Arsenal), they've been in transition which can be painful and English teams have a preference for youth which can take longer t pay-off. It seems to me we may be in a era where the more interesting and dynamic teams are in Italy and England, but I'm sure Spain and Germany will be back sooner rather than later.

Spain are 25 points above 2nd place. They are, and have been for a while, the king of kings. The top teams do seem stagnant and ageing compared to the BPL teams, yes. But no need to change what is still dominant.

As for the 2nd - 4th spots. Imagine all the accusations if Italy or England finish 4th. People will surely say UEFA changed the rules for them.

I see Barcelona more as an aging squad with their core players mostly around the 29-33 year old age bracket but I guess you can say the same thing about Real Madrid

I wouldn't say Madrid is old. It's just Ronaldo and Modric. Important players, obviously, but if Ascensio, Varane, Carvahal and Isco turn out as expected there won't be a dip even when CR7 & Modric decline, imo.

Bale was trying to come back and got injured again. We'll see how they do at Atletico on Saturday. The betting odds think Real is more likely to win. Both Madrid clubs would fall 11 points behind if they lose and Barcelona beats ninth place Leganes.

Big game for Napoli at home vs Shakhtar.

A 3 goal win followed by a win in Holland and a Shakhtar loss the following match day would allow Napoli to advance.

We don't need to win by 3 goals, We can win 1-0, 2-1 or by 2+ goals.
    The Tiebreakers are:

    1) Head to head
    2) GD in head to head
    3) Goals scored in head to head
    4) Away goals scored in head to head
    5) doesn't apply as that is 3 or more teams tied
    6) GD in all group matches
    7) Goals scored in all group matches

We would have all the tiebreakers if we win 1-0, 2-1, or by 2+ goals. Still a long shot because we need Shakthar to pick up nothing while we finish off the group with 6 points
