Top 10 Football Leagues (Europe), based on All-Time Performance in All UEFA Club Competitions 1. Spain (La Liga) 2. Italy (Serie A) 3. England (Premier League) 4. Germany (Bundesliga) 5. France (Ligue 1) 6. Portugal (Primeira Liga) 7. Netherlands (Eredivisie) 8. Belgium (Belgian First Division A) 9. Scotland (Scottish Premiership) 10. Soviet Union (Soviet Top League)
That's right, overall performances by country. Don't only look at the list of winners also count finalist, semi finalist, quarter finalist, advancing past the group stage... its ranking system just own creation. Anyway, Ligue 1 manage to get fifth place from Primeira Liga only last season with Monaco reaches the semis, while France is like 5 points ahead of the Netherlands. The gap between 4th Germany and 5th France is obviously much much bigger a total of 86 points.
Was the Hungarian league ever one of the best? Hungary has three of the top 44. The Northern Ireland league is 49th out of 54 in the country coefficients for the last four complete seasons and 2017-2018 so far where the bottom leagues have no clubs left. I'm surprised Northern Ireland could have a club in 66th.
The Hungarian football which was decidedly an elite class back then based on all their performances in the World Cup pre-70s. The first half of 50s is defined by the great Hungarian players with a team that have been known playing a brilliant brand of football. In the sixties they were seen as a second-tier international team at the 1962 and 1966 editions of the World Cup, still though 2nd tier European team means a very strong on the world stage. In the seventies they were only decent and gradually fell away from little more to massively downhill that quickly became forgotten. On the club level, the inception of the European competition since 1955 around the same time the country collapsed into revolution. Ferencváros, MTK Budapest and Újpest are top-flight football in Hungary, and there was Budapest Honvéd arguably one of all time great sides for a period of time, that we cannot erase them from history. British Isles clubs are the oldest in the world, your focus on 2017-2018 season in Irish football in that you're struggling in this area. It's an all time list, Northern Ireland football league are respectable at the very beginning of time, Linfield is by far the most successful club in Ireland, a record of domestic trophies, so consitency and given their history both also plays a major role in those types of lists that despite they are inferior to the modern era in professional football.
Why? because Porto won 2 Champions League. There is no CL/EC when Porto were literally nothing to be compared by Rangers, what do you think should be done with their 28 championships (that more than half of Rangers's league titles) throw it into the sea. Look at history as a whole, it didn't start 30 years ago with the emergence of new forces. The greatness of the club history no less important, Arsenal never lifted the most prestigious european trophy but it's silly to forget the 30s team, Torino which is a mediocre team at best in modern football but made the all-time list because the dominance 40s team, that same manner goes for Celtic & Rangers. There are many examples right in front of you, let's say no more than the one from Portugal Sporting Lisbon. There's really no comparison at all between Chelsea and Sporting CP in the history of European Cup/Champions League. Chelsea's performance at the Champions League is considered as a phenomenal, with several semi-final appearances and according to my own rankings is listed # 12 on all-time list performance in the history of the competition, still though couldn't surpass the domestic history of Sporting CP yet. Anyway, both Rangers and Porto are at the same level historically 12th & 14th isn't that much different.
There will always be complaints in such lists mostly are clueless on the other side and sometimes just childish arguments my team better than that team and my toys are prettier than yours. If you're 12 years old you win, if you are an adult you tell me what you know then I'll show you the right direction.
OK benficafan3 I will get back to you with details to end the suspicion just need little time for collection.
Here we go Portuguese liga ranked higher than scottish league in the final top ten, so the winner of primeira liga earn more points. To more explain about all point rating Primeira Liga 1st: 2.5 pts (27 times) 2nd: 1.75 pts (26) 3rd: 1 pts (13) 4th: 0.25 pts (11) Domestic League = 128.75 pts Taça de Portugal 1st: 0.5 (16 times) 2nd: 0.25 (13) Domestic Cup = 11.25 pts Super Cup 1st: 0.25 (20 times) = 5 pts European Cup/Champions League Winner: 4 pts Runner-up: 3 pts Semi-finals: 2 pts Quarter-finals: 1 pts Round of 16: 0.5 pts Round of 16: (11 times) - 79/80, 85/86, 87/88, 88/89, 95/96, 01/02, 04/05, 06/07, 07/08, 09/10, 12/13 Quarter-finals: (6 times) - 90/91, 92/93, 96/97, 99/00, 08/09, 14/15 Semi-finals: (once) 93/94 Winner: (twice) 86/87, 03/04 European Cup/Champions League = 21.5 pts x2 (more weight competition) = 43 pts Personally not so much consider all three Cup Winners' Cup, UEFA Cup & Europa League as highly rated compared to the champions of the national league (the main competition). Cup Winners' Cup Runner-up: 0.75 pts (once) - 83/84 Quarter-finals: 0.25 pts (3 times) - 77/78, 81/82, 94/95 Cup Winners' Cup = 1.5 pts x1.5 = 2.25 pts UEFA Cup/Europa League Winner: 1 pts (twice) - 02/03, 10/11 Quarter-finals: 0.25 pts (twice) - 00/01, 13/14 UEFA Cup/Europa League = 2.5 pts x1.5 = 3.75 pts UEFA Super Cup Winner: 0.75 pts x1.5 = 1.125 pts Intercontinental Cup Winner: 1 pts (twice) x1.5 = 3 pts Total = 198.125 pts (Porto) Scottish Premiership 1st: 2 pts (54 times) 2nd: 1.25 pts (30) 3rd: 0.5 pts (19) Domestic League = 155 pts Scottish Cup 1st: 0.5 (33 times) 2nd: 0.25 (17) Domestic Cup = 20.75 pts European Cup/Champions League Round of 16: 0.5 pts (7 times) - 56/57(bye), 57/58, 75/76, 90/91, 95/96, 96/97, 05/06 Quarter-finals: 1 pts (4 times) - 61/62, 64/65, 78/79, 87/88 Semi-finals: 2 pts (twice) - 59/60, 92/93(SF:second place in the quarter-final groups behind O Marseille) European Cup/Champions League = 11.5 pts x2 = 23 pts Cup Winners' Cup Winner: 1 pts (once) - 71/72 Runner-up: 0.75 pts (twice) - 60/61, 66/67 Cup Winners' Cup = 2.5 pts x1.5 = 3.75 pts UEFA Cup Runner-up: 0.75 pts (once) - 07/08 UEFA Cup = 0.75 pts x1.5 = 1.125 pts Total = 203.625 pts (Rangers)
I appreciate your commitment and transparency but it does not change what I intended to convey in the post as your methodology reflects my point. While you are correct in stating football did not start 30 years ago, your methodology does not properly reflect the value of reaching the summit of European football, which is to become Champion of Europe. Your methodology provides 4 points to a .Champion. In a simplified model of 4 seperate seasons, a club with four quarterfinal achievements will be equal to a club who has been Champion, if that club has not amassed points in the three other seasons. That, in my opinion, does not reflect the value of winning the competition. A Champion is to be revered, because they have achieved what few have. Furthermore, Porto, as the last European Champion outside of the wealthy leagues, is a club that should be held in a more respected regard than your methodology reflects. In my opinion of course.
As an added point, the methodology could be forgiven if it could be argued that Porto's success was anomalous relative to their historical performance. But that is not the case, they achieved no "fluke win", an in fact have won the competition both in the previous format (European Cup), as well as the current Champions League format. What's more, Porto's continued presence in the Champions League format is superseded by a very small number of clubs. They have a presence and significance in European football that is matched or superseded by few clubs, of which that list Ranges is nowhere near. Further issues with the methodology does not properly account, although it attempts to, the disparity in levels of competition between the leagues. Ranger's achievements in its league are heavily influenced by the extremely low level of competition in the Scottish league, a level of which is not found to such a degree in any other comparable league competition.
Your opinion value the winning of the competition (more), I see it equally to the 4 times in the last eight as competitive value in return. I agree of what you're saying about glorifying of a champion (which is indeed the best of all that can be achieved), nevertheless reaching the latter stages that is worthy of admiration as well.
True, which is quite obvious in the last couple of decades and that's less than 10% of the league's history, before was on the average rate, there were also a very good periods and vice versa of course an extremely high level of competition in the earliest days.
CSKA Sofia - known as the killer of european champions - 3 times! Ajax, Liverpool, Forest. Knock-out a teams like Partizan, Barcelona, Sociedad, Juventus, Dortmund, Panathinaikos, Parma and many more wins! One of the best fans support is here - on our stadium, our city, our country! I cannot say nothing when ultras of CSKA give 110 about the team... but not only for the team - for the letters! CSKA!
