  1. Last year we had to accept that a large number of people that were part of so may their lives passed away.
I think it is a good thing to concentrate those specifique events in a thread of its own

^^Demme was an amazing director of both documentary and standard 'fiction' films. His rock documentaries always found the good story to tell. He still had some good work in his mind when he passed away.

  4. Yes, it is amazing how many passed away recently of whom we still could expect great works to enjoy, leaving us with the nagging feeling of what we never will be able to experience.

Unlike Wilders Fortuyn was indeed a great man and politics would have been better with his voice still present.

Good interview, though long, between Theo and Pim, both assassinated for their beliefs.

Just to show how a low human being that Wilders is in his message to enter the Rotterdam political arena. He's the last person to talk about our values. I'm not a fan of Eerdmans, but unlike Wilders he doesnot run for responsibility and in his critical approach he stays respectful towards his opponent. Wilders doesnot deserve respect, because he has no clue what the concept is about.

Yes, there are lots of tests that can be done. I remember years ago watching an American football game (1971) where Chuck Hughes of the Detroit Lions dropped dead on the field. He is the only NFL player to die during a game and was 28 years old. they did an autopsy and found that he had advanced heart disease; one artery was 75% blocked. There was also a family history of heart disease.

If you do survive one of these things, your career is basically over because no insurance company will ever insure you, and no club will ever hire you if you dont have proper insurance

  14. Tonny van der Linden died aged 84. He made the first Eredivisie goal and scored 17 times in 24 Orange matches. That's an amazing goal per match ratio. In those days the number of international matches wasnot as high as nowadays.

  15. Jeanne Moreau died 31st of july at the age of 89. She was the beautiful face of the European art movies.
The day before the famous playwriter San Shepard died as young as 74!

  16. Riem de Wolff, member of the Blue Diamonds, died at the age of 74 on 12th of september.
He was one of the Indo Rock wave, that changed the Dutch music scene forever and to the better. The Netherlands in the years just after the war were a provincialistic, small minded inwards oriented country, while the Dutch East Indies were very mondain and very much influenced by the USA music scene.
The contrast between the Indo Rock and the Dutch music was so big that someone like a young Mies Bouman referred to it as the monkey music (apen muziek), which was just one example of the racist treatment the Indo people were given.
But the younger generation loved it and embraced it. Dutch pop music owe an incredible big debt to those bands of those days. Little is known about the influence of the Tielman Brothers on the international pop scene. The Beatles saw their performances in Hamburg, when they were just picking up their instruments and American Gi's in Germany flocked to see the brothers. One of them was Jimi Hendrix, who saw Andy Tielman play his guitar in the air, behind his back etc.
It is sad that the heritage of these Indo musicians is all but almost unknown to the present generation.
RIP Riem and have a good jam session with all those Indo musicians that went before you.

A moment of silence for the 55 people slaughtered in Las Vegas by a lone gunman. According to reports he had 19 rifles in his room where he fired down on attendees at a music festival. Too sad but becoming more commonplace in the US.

  18. With all due respect, @Orange14 , but that wasnot what the tread was ment for. It is ment to put in a memoriam for people that ment something for a great number of people in a positive way. A place to recall those memories and pay respect to that and celebrate it.
How sad it is what happened to those unfortunate people is without a doubt, but it happens to countless others, like just before that to the women in Marseille or to people in the Middle East. A decent human being feels for them all, but they really only mean something to the people that knew them directly.

My request is to keep this thread dedicated to the ones I ment it for.
Otherwise it descends in an obituary for the unfortunate victims of human evil, and the exploitation of them to further certain political and cultural views.
I'm fine with a seperate thread for that.
So can we lay down as a rule for posts allowed in this thread it has to be about a person, who has ment something for a vast number of people in a positive way?
Any other post that doesnot fit will be deleted.

    Please.

If the innocent are not worthy to remember, who is?

  20. They are worthy as I said, but the thread is ment for people to be remembered for the good they brought to the many, by music, movie, poetry, literature, art, showing/applying humanity, improving life.
For the innocent you refer to, who are victims of political failures like lack of gun control, of terrorism, racism or natural disasters we had a thread about political and other impact events. There it belongs. The reason I really want to keep this thread clear of these victims is the vitriol it also attracts from proponents or opponents of certain views.
That was the reason why the last thread on that topic was closed. If needed a new one can be started to accommodate the need to pay tribute to them and I would support that.
But please, keep it out of this thread, as I donot want it to descend into another closed thread because of attacks on views.
So can we agree on removal/transfer of posts that donot meet the requirements I mentioned?

It's a community thread and unless there are some objectionable posts it will remain open. You and I disagree about what types of posts may be made on the thread and that is fine. If you don't like my post, so be it. I'm not removing it nor am I closing down the thread. If this is the way you want it that's fine with me, I'll just not post to it in the future and will only monitor content.
