Uh, long time no see everyone.

So this Hiddink fiasco is a sh*tshow and a trainwreck rolled into one. At this point, I think the Hiddink ship has sailed but I suspect the controversy won't go away, especially if Korea crashes out early.

In any case, here is a screenshot of the Kakao Talk message from Hiddink's deputy in Korea sent to Kim Ho-Gun in June. Essentially says Hiddink is very interested in the KNT manager post so perhaps the KFA should just appoint an interim manager for the last 2 qualifier games and then name a manager for the finals in Russia after qualification. The text message contradicts Kim's assertion that Hiddink never reached out to the KFA before. For what it's worth, the Korean public is calling for Kim's head.

Damn. He's reaching at his 70s and yet he's doing these things. These kinds of people are the reason why there's no improvement in football in korea.

I had hoped that turning my back on the KNT would help it to thrive...turns out I was too optimistic.

Hiddink is willing to help South Korea improve for World Cup

"AMSTERDAM (AP) — Guus Hiddink says he is willing to act as an adviser to South Korea's national soccer team as it prepares for next year's World Cup.

Hiddink says "I am available. Not specific as you were mentioning as a technical director or manager or whatsoever, it is more in advising."

Hiddink has been a hero in South Korea since he led the national team to the 2002 World Cup semifinals."

I can take your role as a mod lol. I've shown interest in it for the past few years but I got KFAed.

Also I don't mind if Hiddink doesn't get appointed as our manager as long as KHG gets sacked and the KFA officials get fired. Hope all of this can lead to change.

This is a great opportunity to have him as our technical director! Fire Kim Hogon.

But Hiddink as adviser would threaten STY's unquestionable authority and great respect that he totally, richly deserves for almost not surviving two qualifiers. STY's been in the position for a whole TWO MONTHS now. I mean, he's entrenched.

STY's put this team back on track. Next game, we might even score. Can't let someone stop this runaway train of progress.

If Hiddink was an adviser, people might look to him for leadership instead of STY or Kim Ho-Gun - just because he's obviously much more qualified and experienced and proven and respected and not an idiot.

    Can't have that.

Hiddink is also very careful saying "It would be as an advisor". He's a fox because he knows that would damage the KFA much more than if he says "I want to be a manager". He has thrown a bait and Kim Ho Gon has bitten. :p

If he hasn't got honorary Korean citizenship by now, he'll have it if he can pressure the KFA into accepting him, and then gives Korea a memorable World Cup experience.

If Hiddink gets to coach a team in WC 2018 however, he will be the oldest manager of a WC team in history. The previous record is slightly short of 72 years old.

P.S. Shin Moonson thinks Hiddink is the best man to coach KNT.

+ First one to publicly criticize KFA like this..

Why is there any doubt? If Shin TY had any real aspirations of being a true football manager he should jump at the chance at having Hiddink as a manager and guarantee himself at being at helm as KNT for future WC or WCs. Shin Ty and the entire KFA can go F themselves or otherwise run into traffic. These f's do not care about Korean football but about their own crony world. I called this shizz before Stielicke was fired and now that the shizz gas hit the fan I doubt any change will happen internally. We need Hiddink or Hiddink like figure to upturn the current state of affairs.

When I read that Kakao screenshot from June, to me, it honestly sounds like Hiddink was only interested in the KNT job if and only if we qualified for the World Cup.

I don't know, the man is a deity and all, but to not want to lead our team when we needed somebody the most, during our two crucial September WCQs, to only express interest in leading the club IF we qualified, that just doesn't sound right to me at all.

I want a manager who is interested in leading us through the tough games as well. Whoever does so deserves to lead the team to the WC. That's how I honestly see it. Been scouring all the news to look for any evidence otherwise, that Hiddink would have been willing to lead the team during the WCQs as well. But if that is not the case, then Hiddink gets no respect from me for all this.

I think that's a valid viewpoint - but on the other hand, it's also surprising for a manager to want to take over after qualifiers are over. That means a shortened time frame and no competitive matches to get a team transitioned and ready for the biggest tournament of all. We saw how that worked with HMB. High expectations and no time to meet them.

Specifically in this case, with the well-documented dysfunction of the KNT and its current status, it's surprising that anyone with a reputation would want the position. Just because the team is qualified doesn't mean these aren't tough times. The position is a poisoned chalice - potential career suicide. STY had no choice but to take it - I'm not sure he would have if he did.

And let's be real here - when Stielike was fired, there was no question that STY would be his successor. They claimed the position was an open one, but then they established immediately that they weren't looking at foreign coaches - because there was no time available to look for one. Which is rather nonsensical - it's not the 1900s, interviewing foreigners in Korea does not require booking a months-long voyage aboard a coal steamer across the high seas.

If what they meant was they didn't have the time to conduct a thorough search and interview process, then that would mean they weren't really considering any domestic coaches either. They followed that up with saying they just needed an interim coach for the next two games and then they'd reevaluate. That's gone completely out the window.

STY was being groomed to take over for months, if not years. They were just waiting for the U-20 Cup to be over. He's their guy, and they're really rather annoyed that anyone might think his position could be questioned after qualifiers were over - almost like they announced him as an interim coach or something.

Ahh no it's not. Dick Advocaat did it with us and a lot of top managers love an opportunity to manage a side that's already qualified. It just doesn't happen a lot because they tend to stick with the manager that got them qualified in the first place.

I do totally get that STY was groomed to be the KNT manager for a while, and no doubt, all this lying from 호로곤 and corruption from the KFA is hilarious, sad and disappointing.

All that said, if we were part of KFA, and an assistant to Hiddink was texting us saying that Guus is demanding the managerial position, but only after KNT has navigated itself out of the WCQs mess that it had got itself to, and that Guus wanted no part of these absolutely crucial September qualifiers, well, I'd be pretty disappointed and annoyed at his opportunism, zero doubt.

Hell, I'd have probably needed a drink or two as well ;) But for real, Hiddink was a legend for us 15 years ago. But if he was going to earn the respect of KFA and the players, as of 2017, he needed, in that text message, to step up and put himself forward for the September qualifiers.

Nah fck that - when a manager of that caliber offers to manage a 2nd-rate team in complete disarray, you accept it, no questions asked. Given how egregiously incompetent and corrupt they have been in the past few years, the KFA truly owes it to the fans to do whatever it takes to have the KNT perform as well as possible in the World Cup.

It's also hilarious how the KFA is suddenly pretending like they're some loyal organization after what they did to CBK, CKR, etc. The KFA has a history of throwing managers under the bus when it is convenient for them. They really don't have much of a reputation to lose in the first place.

It's all bullshit from them, as usual.
