He was probably paid to do it. You give up no goals and then all of a sudden 2 including a late equalizer that puts Syria through?

Who would thought we would help Koreans of all teams qualify for the World Cup. But as I said, Iranians value sportsmanship and today was a clear case of it. We fielded our best team and gave a 100% effort, when we could have easily field a B team and let Syrians qualify over Korea.

The only thing that bothers me, is that we may have helped Saudi Arabia by letting in that late stupid goal. I just don't see Syria winning the play-off against Saudis for many reasons, footballing and non-footballing. Uzbekistan would have had a better chance against Saudis.

Syria is easily stronger than us. We have no chance against Saudi/Australia. Good luck Syria.

For years I was proud of Iranian national team for fair play and I have lost my respect today. The first goal we conceded today against Syria was suspicious to be an offside. We had an exact goal scored by Khodad Azizi vs Saudi Arabia in AC 1996 semi final and was denied as offside. My concern is about Syrian second goal. It was almost obvious that our defender and goal keeper let them score to keep the Syrian dream alive. It was nasty and I am sure CQ won't tolerate that in our team. I suspect IFF pulling some shit behind the scene to keep the corrupted officials in Iranian regime happy. This is not fair to Uzbeks and not even to the rest of team who worked so hard to keep our goal closed. Absolute disgrace for whoever pulled that theater act in injury time.

Syrian people are living in miserable conditions but it doesn't make sense to give them false hope, they need to earn it. I don't like Iranian football to follow the path of Bahrain, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. A crushing defeat for Syrian team was what all Iranian fans desired except corrupted Iranian regime which wanted to please their ally (Syrian regime). Syrian team didn't deserve a draw because of their lack of sportsmanship but our defender and goal keeper made an even worst case today.

Congrats to South Korea for qualifying to the WC 2018 with us and wish you the best of luck at the WC 2018 and very special congratulation to Syrian brothers for making the play off. IMO the final outcome of the group was fair although things could change if China had Marcello Lippi from the beginning and Syria would have been able to host its home games.

Why are you talking nonsense kid? This is such a typical post from you, talking out of your behind, literally, as you always do here. I'm 100% sure that you did not even watch the entire match to make such laughable claim. It was clear from the get go that Iranian players took this match very seriously. There were even two brawls during the match. Iran also missed several chances to make it 3-1 or even 4-1 before the Syrians had a brilliant counter attack build up from their own half, which our keeper couldn't do anything about.

If Iran wanted to gift Syria a result, it could have easily let them win 1-0 after they scored and qualify directly which would have also served as another "revenge" against South Korea which most Iranian players and CQ in particular have no love for, after all the tauntings of 2014 WCQs when Koreans "vowed" to make Iran cry blood and watch the World Cup on TV.

If Iran waned to gift Syria a draw to make their hopes alive as your stupid conspiracy claims, then again Iran could have just done that the easy way by arranging for an uneventful 0-0 match, which would have also kept Iran's 12-match clean sheet record going. Why throw away the team's biggest achievement, an ongoing world record, if you're gonna gift a result? That just makes no sense.

The match was competitive and tense with both sides going all out for the win. The difference at the end, was Syria's luck and clinical finishing, coupled with Iran's poor finishing.

what ********ing horrible day. i dont give a rats ass that we didnt win, i just wanted to keep our clean sheet record. today we had one objective: do not get scored on. and we failed big time. even after syria scored, ok its a rebound off a free kick, this is football, you cant stay forever without conceding. one goal conceded in a random way off an individual mistake would not have been that bad, but the 2nd goal? when we were ALREADY winning? why were we doing 11 man all out offense at the 92nd minute? obviously you can be hit on the counter like that, especially against a team who is fighting for life. wtf. highly atypical of CQ. that basically was a huge stain over our entire qualifying campaigns defensive record. it basically eclipsed it and made it meaningless. we will no longer be known for our defense once the world cup starts. nobody will fear a team who got scored on twice by syria, they will no longer fear us and they will think they can score easily on us and this changes the equation. we will just be thought of as another shitty asian team who has no chance against the big boys.

our defensive ability means NOTHING to the world/our group stage opponents anymore. nobody is going to remember that we went 1000 or something minutes without scoring. we ruined it. our chances of getting out of the group stages took a massive hit today. our record is 10 goals scored and 2 conceded. that is pretty good, but it is not good enough to bring up/talk about anymore, especially since we conceded 2 goals to SYRIA in one match.

we should not have gone for the win. we should have played a defensive game while hitting on the counter, i guarantee that we would have won also if we had done this. we had no reason to win today, the main objective was to keep a clean sheet and we failed. we tied 2-2 anyways 0-0 would have been better. ******** this shit. i am highly surprised at CQ, i thought he would have realized this, i thought he would have played for the defensive record, but apparently he told the boys to go all out attack and ******** the record and just wanted to beat syria for some reason. wtf.

the conspiracy story doesnt really make sense, but beiranvand ********ing up royally TWICE in one match after going so many games without conceding is also super strange at the same time. especially the 2nd goal. also it just makes no sense for CQ to say "forget about the defensive record, i want 6 past syria in this game" because it seemed like that was the game plan. none of it adds up.

Glad we somehow sealed the deal.
A lot to be fixed during the prep for WC 2018.
Congrats on Iran for completing your campaign undefeated.

meh, being undefeated is not that special. PLENTY of teams from asia and other federations have qualified undefeated. i just wanted that clean sheet record which i think would have been the first time in world cup history for any team on earth. today was a shitty day. nothing cool even came out of this draw, i mean syria is going to get defeated by australia anyways. and we wont even see a juicy syria vs saudi game, with the potential of syria vs usa. all the exciting scenarios were defeated today. i think this will actually be the first time the "traditional" big 5 of AFC qualify to the world cup together. japan, skorea, australia, iran, saudi. saudi is going to lose at least one match by at least 4 goals, watch. they even lost like this after a strong 2006 qualification campaign.

but we still had a very strong qualifying campaign. i would say that Iran 2018 and australia 2010 had the best qualifying campaigns in AFC WCQ history.

australia 2010: scored 10, conceded 1, went undefeated, 2.5 points per match, 8 games
Iran 2018: scored 10, conceded 2, went undefeated, and had 2.2 points per match BUT since it was 10 games overall it evens out with australia 2010's record.

By the way, I think the best team in this group after Iran was actually China who were unlucky to have such a slow start to their campaign. If they had Lippi or another decent manager in charge from day one, they would have probably qualified directly.

group A was clearly the harder group. 2nd through 5th place was so tight. group B, the top 3 were the top 3 for the whole time. on paper, at the beginning, group b seemed slightly harder because of UAE, but they proved to be overrated. also, even if the top 3 of group b combined are better than the top 3 of group a combined, that doesnt matter, group strength is not about total strength of all teams combined, it is about how tight the positions are, it is about statistical variability.

You have just played one-off game with not much to play for whereas Syria was highly motivated for direct qualification or playoff at minimum.
If your team repeats the same mistake, then you can start worrying about it but until then you should rather keep your patience.

I don't believe the entire Iranian team were on the same page today. Our defender and goal keeper actions on last goal right after Uzbekistan vs S.Korea ended as a draw was totally extra ordinary and uncommon. I don't suspect the entire team but a couple of players, if not trying to please Syria, then it was a disgrace performance, something we haven't seen for years in our team.

All aside CQ showed again that he is weak when we go all out on offensive mode just like the match vs Bosnia. CQ insisting on large and physically stronger players at expense of creative and technically gifted play makers is showing its weakness again. Back then in 2013-2014 he dropped Ali Karimi, Khalatbari and even Azmoun. Now, he keeps not inviting players such as Soroush Rafie, Mohsen Musalman,... or not giving time to Torabi. I thought at least we could use some of our technically gifted players in this match while keeping the defense line in tact. His subs were horrendous as well. It seems he has one master plan which is defensive/counter attack and when it won't work he goes blind.

Our defense line was full of errors today. I saw the entire match and we look very vulnerable when we go on attack mode. Same ole problems from WC 2014 adding not having Ando and Neko, and a consistent play maker this time around on top of that.

After a long time, I enjoyed how Dejagah played today specially that one side pass he made when Taremi lost the chance.

    • China > Iraq
    • Qatar > Thailand
Overall, I think it's fair to say that Group A had more quality overall from top to bottom and hence more balanced and competitive.

If you actually watched the game you'd realize that our players were doing everything they can to beat Syrian team. We didn't give a flying potato about Syria. Our players came to finish this campaign in style and they somehow screwed up.

Don't you agree that Iraq and Thailand were walk in the park for most part? I bet China and Qatar could knock them out with ease. Uzbekistan and Syria are in equal or better position compared to UAE too. Only the top 3 teams were better in your group. Btw, Saudis and Aussies would have hard time on away matches in group A. Only Japan could come up on top in group A in my honest opinion.

Seeing we dropped points against both those teams I don't see them as a walk in the park (at least not for us).

This pretty much sums up the state of Asian teams at the moment.

This will be the possible September Fifa ranking

    2. Japan 737 - 35
    3. Australia 662 - 51
    4. South Korea 659 - 52
    5. Saudi Arabia 641 - 56
    6. China 564 - 67
    7. Uzbekistan 511 - 73
    8. UAE 480 - 75
    9. Syria 465 - 76

No one would tarnish their WQ record and FIFA ranking that way. You are as delusional as ever. Aside a few BSK members who facetiously thanked Iran no one in the world thinks the way you do outside Iran.

Wargamer ("Fector") is butthurt, because his fragile nationalist ego is hurt knowing that without Iran's sportsmanship, South Korea wouldn't have made it to the World Cup.

There are literally hundreds of "Thank you Iran" comments from Korean fans under the Iran-Syria YouTube video alone. So yeah, don't be ashamed that you needed Persian Pahlavani spirit and generosity to make it, accept it and live with it.
