Looks like a major question will be whether should Leroy Sane return to the U21 level for this season. In terms of youngsters, it seems like Jogi is favoring Brandt ahead of him right now. While Draxler, and Schürrle (if healthy when tournament time comes around) will be immediate options ahead of him. Even Gnabry and Younes got a call up for these qualifier matches. Reus usually has bad luck before the tournament begins, but he's injured to begin the season this time around so who knows if 2018 could finally be the year he's fit and can round into form to join the NT.

I'm not a fan of pulling players back down again once they've been with the full national team.

Schuerrle is not ahead of him

I don't know when was the last time Andre played a good match

Sane will be in the World Cup roster. I'm not worried

I think Brandt should be playing for U21, he doesn't bring any special/unique quality m to this team. Decent player, but I think players like Mueller, Oezil, Draxler, Reus can provide similar attributes but even better

Fwiw, Schürrle had 2 goals and an assist in the NT's second most recent qualifier vs Azerbaijan and is part of the veteran core. Sane has a higher ceiling no doubt and in an ideal situation should be there, but I'm calling it as it is.

Jogi goes with a certain group and amount of experienced players. If Schürrle is healthy for the WC, then he'll he among the call ups just based on trends.

Brandt's craftiness in tight spaces, passing, dribbling combination is special. He is much better than Draxler when the team isn't on the counter and much more crafty in the final third / box.

Jogi may not like his high turnover rate. He likes to take on players off the dribble, which brings a different element to our game, but that can mean lots of turn overs if he fails.

The thing is, he isn't going to play ahead of Müller , Reus or Draxler.

The reason why i think Brandt will be brought is because he can play reasonably well at RW

Draxler, Reus, Younes, Sane are all playing LW

So Brandt's competitors will be Muller, Gnabry (?), Schuerrle. But the latter two also play at LW for their clubs

I'm guessing we don't have to mention eligible players like Brandt, Sane, Tah, Werner, Kehrer, Baumgartl, Amiri, Dahoud, Öztunali, etc as everyone already knows about them.

For RB, Toljan and Weiser would be removed just based on age and no longer being qualified for youth NT's. Henrichs and Stenzel would go on for them. Maybe Robin Becker and Hemmerich.

CB: Mühl, Gimber, and Abu Hanna. Not sure about Gül as he appears to be falling off course at Düsseldorf.

    LB: Mittelstädt

    DM/CM: Janelt, Geiger

    LW: Ochs, Keanu Staude

    AM: Mehlem, Neuhaus, Muslija

    CF: Utku Sen

Is his turnover rate actually higher than Reus, Draxler, Muller, Sane, Gnabry, etc.'s? I would be surprised by that because he is amongst the most efficient attackers we have in tight spaces. As for playing ahead of Reus, Mueller & Draxler, that's on Jogi.

No way would I play Draxler ahead of Brandt, Sane or Stindl; and Mueller needs to be in WM form to hold his place against them. If he's playing the way he did at the euros then there is no reason that he should start ahead of Werner, Brandt, Sane or Stindl. As for Reus, first lets see if he's healthy, and if he is I'm still not sure he's our best option for that spot as he is a lot more effective when he's able to counter than when spaces tighten up and he needs to break down a box.

That's why IMO our best lineup given the way teams will play against us is something like:

    Werner/Brandt - WM Mueller
    Ozil
    Sane/Hector - Dahoud - Kroos - Brandt/Sane
    Hummels - Boateng - Kimmich
    Neuer
With Stindl coming in if Mueller is in EM form and/or Werner struggles with less space to operate

Wasn't able to watch but Germany wins their first match of the U21 Euro qualifiers, 1-0 vs Kosovo. Maxi Eggestein with the decisive goal:

    https://streamable.com/lepub

Starting lineup was: Nübel - Klostermann, Baumgartl, Anton, Horn - Kehrer (C), M. Eggestein - Öztunali, Hartel, Amiri - J. Eggestein

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that they just started to play together and get used to each other.
But 1st 2 U21 games being a loss to Hungary (friendly) and a barely win vs Kosovo (EC19 Q) isn't good at all.

Ideally, the team should mature and develop chemistry with more experience as the qualifiers move along. The U21 squad that won this past summer's Euros had a core of players who have spent like 2 years together on that level.

They also need someone like Dahoud orchestrating in the midfield. Apparently, Teuchert returned to FCN due to illness or whatever. I don't think Waldschmidt is that good. Hopefully Platte plays well with Darmstadt again and he makes his way back. The lack of a top choice LW who has pace right now also hurts. Skarke from last game and Hartel from this game aren't that great. I think Keanu Staude from Bielefeld is already better than them. Shame that Ochs didn't go out on loan.

    Continuation of this discussion:

I still rate the ability of Hertha's Nikos Zografakis as LW. But he seems to be overlooked by the DFB in recent age group call ups for sometime now. He could be a good depth option.

Maybe Benjamin Goller of Schalke at RW.

Kilian Ludewig will likely leave RB Leipzig at some point soon, but maybe he can be a Mitch Weiser type RWB player. Capable of both, and offers attacking qualities moving forward.

Leverkusen's squad depth is thinner now that they sold off several players. I wonder if they will start integrating Akkaynak and Schreck or will they go out on loan next year.

Julian Rieckmann (Werder) and Majetschak (RBL)

Tidiane M'Baye seems to be playing well (alongside Bleart Dautaj) at Hoffenheim U17.

Dennis Borkowski (RBL) , Lazar Samardzic (Hertha), and Rilind Hetemi (BVB) seem like some of the other better 2002'ers.

Heard Goller play well last night against England n scored a goal. Very active too throughout the match

I was wondering why some good talents like David Otto n David Nieland have never been given chance in the 1999 age group

Some thing to do with Meikel Schonweitz always being the coach of this age group?

I like Amade n think he can be a top talent one day at the RB spot.

I've seen Ole Pohlmann play in so many games. Kid is a complete package: size, pace, skill, versatility n strength. But looks like he has some attitude issue

we are exactly a month away from the U17 WC. Will the clubs release all the players or would there be problems?

Don't think it will be an issue at all. After all , it's just 17 year olds. We didn't have any problem in the past.

Don't think any of the players will be playing in competitive matches anytime soon

Mbom is still injured and that's a pity, he is by far the best 2000-born midfielder

    But Fruchtl will be available, apparently Plogmann did a great job during U17 Euro too so it shouldn't make too much of a differnece;

Nicolas Kuhn n Jonathan Burkardt should be available too. But Kuhn isn't really playing any football this season

Looks like Jesaja Herrmann has some contract issue with Wolfsburg n wanna join Bayern Munich next summer, he hasn't been played; Kehr is still injured.

Think players like Fruchtl, Plogmann, Mai, Jan Boller, Ludewig, Nitzl, Dominik Becker, Cetin, Majetschak, Keitel, Abouchabaka, Yeboah, Awuku, Jastrzembski, Arp, Hottmann, Maurice Malone will be there for sure.

I didn't like what I saw from left back Hackethal, he had a terrible U17 Euro, especially the game against Holland.

Was wondering if coach should consider Oscar Schonfelder from Mainz. He is a year younger but I think he is very good player too, even he's been mainly used as right winger this season (left footed). Schonfelder played at left back for the DFB U16.

If Burkardt is in form we can take him. n another decent midfielder to the team, I think this is a team which capable of winning. Mbom is seriously needed in the team

Do you have any details on why Ole Pohlmann indicates the Netherlands on his Instagram profile?

He's always been representing Germany internationally. And the spelling convention of his surname is in German formatting.
