Let's face it, there's many combinations of stadiums that could work.
    Can't wait.

In 9 years they'll not only be able to lay perfect grass, but after the World cup is over they'll export the grass to Africa and grow crops with it that will feed millions of people. [/Qatar-bid rhetoric]

And they will be able to export their largest Television screen on earth and make it into smaller televisions for the poor people who need that technology to see FIFA events.

They will replace that with an even larger screen.

I do wonder if any NFL teams plan to build new stadiums before the 2026 World Cup (obviously LA Rams, LA Chargers and LV Raiders) that could replace or alter the list.

Arrowhead Stadium in KC is the only one that I can see realistically being replaced, at it was built in 1971.

Regarding artificial turf. I think that a North American WC will require that. There are a couple of reasons for this. First, FIFA has been pushing forward a program to certify vendors and playing surfaces. So they have already considered and accepted that this situation would eventually happen. Second, though is that an American summer is just as hot as an Amazonian summer. Both 1994 and 2014 suffered because of heat index issues. The ideal solution is a totally closed air-conditioned environment with an ideal artificial surface. We can get as romantic as we want about real grass but the industry has had 50 years to evolve and we can't pretend that engineering can't create an exemplary artificial surface.

Arrowhead just underwent a massive renovation to like new status. It's not going anywhere before 2026.

apart from rams/chargers/raiders, the only team I see possibly getting a new stadium before 2026 are redskins. that stadium in landover is awful, by far the worst NFL stadium after oakland coliseum ..... and they actually already started demolishing it, they tore down significant part of the uppers in last 3-4 years :D

I see zero chance for that stadium being selected for the world cup, it simply sucks on every corner!

    30 of 31 :D

by the way, I saw some clueless people start talking about artifitial turf over and over again .... no way! there is not even 0,000001% chance for that. world cup will be played on gras! fullstop!!

I'll be in FedEx Field in September for a college football game. It's definitely not what it used to be. Maybe they can renovate it? But they might as well rebuild.

FedEx won't be significantly renovated. FWIW, it has held World Cup matches (although more rows of seats may have been added to the lower level since then). It is not being demolished. Seating has been removed from the upper bowl though. It's likely on the list to be a placeholder as much as it is there for the location.

nope. they did not remove the seating, they removed integral parts of the stadium. huge portions of the uppers have been removed.
apart from that there are many obstructed seats in that stadium. it is simply awful and should be demolished. I do not know for how long the redskins lease goes on, but I can't imagine them staying a day longer there.
the only good thing about that stadium is subway going there, but even that might be a problem if the game ends too late!

The Metro station is about a mile away. Yes, sections of seating have been removed. The seats are installed on precast rows, some of which were removed. There are a few areas at the top of the lowest level that have views obstructed by the next level.

Also, Russia will feature artificial reinforced fields that are becoming much more common in a lot of places. Full stop.

yes, thats hybrid grass which is nothing but natural grass slightly reinforced with some synthetic fibres in the lower level. last year we went to see a champions league game in munich, and we also took a tour of allianz arena which was using one of those at the time (not any more). I stepped on the pitch and checked it, even culled a piece of it, you actually see and feel only grass

So what's the odds-on favorite for the final?

I'd say it'll be MetLife or the new LA Rams stadium, maybe even the LA Coliseum if they renovate it in time.

Basically, I think FIFA will want it in NY or LA.

Well ,the way I see it, LA had it last time, it is time for NY/NJ to get it this time.:D

However, a beautiful new facility in Los Angeles will be difficult to say no to.

Also depends on what time they decide upon. If it is the traditional time slot as in World Cups past that would be 3PM on a Sunday in New Jersey in the Summer which could be horrible heat wise and humidity wise in the Meadowlands.

The Dome in California would be better for conditions, but it would be a 12 noon start.

the final venue selection is solely in FIFAs hands, I assume they will go for Inglewood in maximum configuration with temporary stands. I simply can not imagine FIFA hosting the final in the stadium with uncovered stands. FIFA bosses do not like to get wet or get sunburn, and Infantino has a lot of skin exposed :D

Well, from my interpretations, I think most of these outdoor stadiums will have to construct roofs for the seating, including MetLife.

But a World Cup final in a pretty new stadium in LA would be VERY hard to turn down, but I'm not sure how they'll get the capacity to 80,000.

and my interpretation is they are not going to build a single one extra for the world cup.

about Inglewood, my understanding is that there is still no exact number of the seats, but it should be somewhere betwenn 72k and 75k, with loads of open space suitable for temporary stands for big events such as superbowl, college final or world cup!

As you have alluded to the stadium can easily be expanded:
"The venue will include 70,000 fixed seats, with the flexibility to expand to host more than 100,000 fans. The L.A. Stadium will be the NFL’s newest home and the host for Super Bowl LV in 2021."

That is of course wrong, as nearly every post you post here without checking your googled sources.
Super Bowl LV will be played in Raymond James stadium in Tampa, probably on February 7th 2021
Also, 100k in Inglewood are doable with standing room only, never as an all seater, so not in this lifetime in the FIFA World Cup!

I'd recommend you to stop posting here, I do not know if you're 15 years old kid or just clueless person, but you are just making yourself ridiculous.

What percentage of your often rude responses are ever fully correct? It was a quote. The poster wasn't wrong. Unfortunately, the venues were changed so the article is no longer correct.

So basically I am being labeled as the fake news of the FIFA forum
I will wear that as a badge of honor.

I tried to reinforce the guy's premise of expandable seating (apparently a rude guy I have not noticed around these parts until the last few weeks) and he tries to insult me by implying I am a teen.
When in essence his behavior is very childlike when insulting someone instead of having a civil discussion like the rest of us.
    Irony is funny.

I personally have attended World Cup games in a stadium without roof covered seats- the Velodrome in Marseille, France in 1998 (I think it was renovated in the last year or two so if you look now the seats are covered). Also, did Rustingberg, South Africa have a roof? I thought not, but I'm just basing that on TV so I might be wrong. Anyway, I suspect FIFA has a "rule" requiring seats if they think a country will build or renovate a stadium. If not, a small bundle of cash or a nice hostess and the rule can be waived.

Someone asked about doomed stadium preference. I prefer a dome to heat and sun; I hate unwatchable games played in the heat. But I'd rather the players get rain, snow, or wind, than static indoor conditions if that is the choice.

Please stop with the Washington "need" a stadium; they are trying to get tax money for it. NFL teams will damage their current stadium (or not keep up with repairs) to convince tax payers they "need" a new one. The NFL stadium in Maryland near Washington is only 20 some years old, stadiums should last longer.

Finally, we should give up on saying the NFL stadium corporate names. If they are not FIFA sponsors, the stadium will be renamed "The FIFA Los Angelas Stadium" or whatever, that's what they did in Germany. Plus the names change a lot and I can't keep up! The "NFL stadium in Houston" or "The NFL stadium near Dallas" will do.
