Danny Szetela worked a transfer from NASL San Francisco (back) to the Cosmos before ever playing a game for the expansion club. And Alex Molano has moved from USL Swope Park to NASL North Carolina.
Watched a few minutes of Freddy with Portland last night. There were still moments when he looks like the Freddy some of us remember, but not that many.
Eriq Zabaleta (2009 U17 WC) is thinking of switching to El Salvador. http://www.socceramerica.com/article/72312/mls-toronto-fcs-zavaleta-pondes-a-shift-to-el-sa.html

This story checks in with former YNTer and USL vet Brian Ownby, who has been dealing with concussion issues. Midfielder Brian Ownby suffered a concussion during the Kickers’ Aug. 21 match at Orlando City B. He received a blow to the head when he and a hard-charging Lions defender became tangled at high speed while pursuing the ball into the deep corner of the attacking third. “I kept telling myself, ‘You’re OK. Keep going. Keep going. You’ll be fine,’ ” said Ownby. “But things just didn’t feel right. I knew something was wrong. The longer I played, the more I knew I had to sit.” So he did. And for longer than he anticipated. He missed three weeks and two matches, both of which were saturated with playoff implications. Ownby returned to active duty last weekend. http://www.richmond.com/sports/prof...cle_403da2fb-f7ea-5c4d-a058-a4ce4bade466.html
A few years ago, he was on the roster of an amateur team we played against and I was all fired up to see him up close. Unfortunately, I guess, he wasn't there.
Nice to hear. I remember speaking with him when he was a LAG DA coach a few years back. He came across as a very personable, bright, disciplined and motivated individual. He should be a good fit with the Midshipmen.
Semi-long-ago U20 Ben Sweat, a '91, is getting another chance at MLS minutes with NYCFC. (Was drafted by the Crew but never played and has been in the lower divisions.)
Cody Cropper made a very nice double save against NYRB not too long ago in a preseason match. Also, speaking of where they are now: Mike Burns' son just came in! http://www.revolutionsoccer.net/players/trevor-burns
Was researching former YNT keepers and came across Andrew Kartunen, who was on the 2005 U-20 World Youth Championship squad. Some people just succeed in life... https://www.linkedin.com/in/andrew-kartunen-08179013

My favorite is former USYNTer and Dallas Burn midfielder Jordan Stone. He was on teams at both the U17WC and U20 World Cup. He then retired at age 20 and went in a COMPLETELY different direction. http://jordanmarkstone.com/about/
Wow! A different direction, indeed! "I am married to Emily, and we are the proud parents of four little boys: Hudson, Owen, Haddon, Knox, and Sarah." A boy named Sarah? Why not just name him Sue?
Ok, I reread what Jordan said, and now I see the four boys are Hudson, Owen, Haddon and Knox. Funny that poor Sarah gets no love, though! Why wouldn't he say "proud parents of four little boys and a little girl?"
Something I didn't appreciate about the Houston Texans run to the U18 DA national title. Eric represented the US at all sorts of USYNT levels, up to the U23s. A coach's life: MLS veteran Eric Quill returns to his Texas youth club and wins another national title https://www.socceramerica.com/article/74334/a-coachs-life-mls-veteran-eric-quill-returns-to.html That article has this sweet picture from the first project 40 class in 1997. If you can name these kids, you are a true long-time youth follower. I only got two...........Quill and the kid in the top left. I kicked myself for missing the kid on the bottom right. Should have gotten him. An actual Yank Abroad, as he went to Bayer Leverkusen.
