How does this work for the NPSL? Is it the top 2 in each conference on PPG in the regular season that get automatic bids? So right now, with just a few games left, that would be: South Miami Fusion FC Wichita Midwest FC Ann Arbor Detroit City West FC Arizona Kitsap SC Northeast Elm City Frederick How are the others determined? I don't see how Jacksonville is going to get in.
from 2016... http://thecup.us/2016/07/18/which-npsl-teams-will-qualify-for-the-2017-us-open-cup/ NPSL’s qualifying process is somewhat less straightforward playoff results matter, and the teams that make the quarterfinals (aka the Regional Finals) are slotted 1-8. Beyond that, Open Cup berths are awarded based on region size, points-per-game, and whether a team from your conference made the quarterfinals. A word of advice to NPSL teams: try to make the quarterfinals. If you don’t, whether you make the Open Cup or not will be based on some pretty complex criteria. Thankfully, USSF invited 15 NPSL teams last year, and they’re not usually one to curtail amateur participation.
16 NPSL teams across 4 regions left in the playoffs – If we win our next match, in addition to moving onto the Northeast Region Championship match on Sat 7/29, Kingston (NY) Stockade FC also AUTOMATICALLY QUALIFIES FOR THE US OPEN CUP (!!!)

It is interesting looking at the regions for the qualifying tournament. Northeast - 32 teams, 3 rounds would get that down to 4 teams Southeast - 22 teams, 2 teams have a first round bye so there would be 12 teams left after that round, that seems to indicate that they are planning on 3 teams moving on Mountain - 20 teams, 2 teams have a bye so there would be 11 teams after the first round, again probably headed for 3 teams Pacific - 34 teams, 17 left after the first round, I wonder if they are aiming for 5 teams 4+3+3+5 would be 17 into the tournament proper which would be the same as last year. It seems odd to me to have byes later than putting them all in the first round but they may be looking at geography more than I have on a first glance.
4+3+3+5 =15 . Also I wonder if the boise matchup is supposed to be in the mountain instead. Otherwise, you would you have a bye not in the 1st round, but later? That would be an odd choice to say the least.
Yep, that was a mistake on my part. I originally thought they were going 4+4+4+5 so I got 17 stuck in my head. I changed the breakdown but not the sum. It does seem like they are having byes in later rounds. Not normally how it would work but geography definitely affects things.
http://thecup.us/2017/09/21/2018-us...unveiled-with-record-number-of-amateur-teams/ 2018 LH USOC First Qualifying Round now UPDATED after all of the games played on 9/24
So turns out the IPS/Marathon Taverna (Ore.) v. Boise Cutthroats match was supoosed to be in the mountain region. That gives us 4+3+3+4 = 14 teams from local qualifying making the open cup proper. http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/201...2018-us-open-cup-second-qualifying-round-draw
That makes more sense. It is interesting that they are reducing the number from 17 last year. Of course, the USSF has no idea how many pro teams they are dealing with for next year with the NASL situation still unfolding.
Yeah ratios of pdl to npsl to lq have been mostly consistent over the last couple of years. It would seem that there will br far fewer amateur teams in the cup proper this year. Although with the new amateur d4 matta is supposed to be working on coming, maybe there is a effort to shift teams to national league? Or maybe the ussf dartboard was used.
I don't know about a big reduction in amateur teams overall. It looks like the PDL and NPSL numbers will be about the same. The local qualifiers are only going down by 3 teams. You are going to have to remind me what this means, "new amateur d4 matta is supposed to be working on coming." There isn't any D4. The USSF division standards only apply to pro teams. This is a new amateur league? I don't think it will affect the Open Cup until it actually gets started.
We will unveil the new @USAdultSoccer tiers this Fall. @ussoccer does not want to recognize Division 4 at this time, so we will do our own!— John Paul Motta (@JohnPMotta) August 24, 2017 He supposed to have a new d4 this fall sometime. Unknown if new usasa run league or standards or what it means exactly.
Huh? "Time officially recognize the UPSL as a division 4 league, it meets all requirements" There are no requirements for division 4 since the USSF doesn't have a division 4. How can they meet them? I don't even think the USSF has standards for amateur leagues. This makes no sense to me.
Right there is not d4 currently. The important part is from motta where he says that usasa plans on making a d4. As I understand it, since ussf delegated the amateur ranks to usasa, the usasa can set the standards for a d4, which as of august they have said that plans on doing so.
