We will see. This young Germany is a very good side, and also fresher with less minutes played in the last 12 months.

It was complicated at the end...no matter how many chances Chile created, Germany defended perfectly...Chile was great during the match, with some errors in passing, but chances were made often, too bad because of Diaz, match would be high in quality. After the goal Chile stopped with creativity, they came back in second half time.

I noticed that Chile can't win against Germany around 40 years.

Referee used Champions League criteria. A lot of exchanged words with Milorad Mazic. It was frustrating, reactions of Chilean players were evident, every foul was commented. Referee could use much more relaxed approach, not so strict.

I thought that Chile can win this on experience, but it seems that Germany is not impressed with great manifestations. They showed their well organized counter attacks. European teams don't have many options against better South American teams. Waiting, controlling, hoping that opponent will lose energy, counter attacks, ball keeping... Germans were much often behind the ball.

Temperament should be controlled in such matches, it's hard, different mentality, really frustrating and understandable.

It's always hard to play against Germany, Spain, France...maybe 2,3 other teams.

Chile should go in Russia 2018 and participate as one of throne candidates.

From Europe Germany, Portugal, Spain, France, England, Italy, Belgium could be interesting opponents for Chile.:)

But UEFA groups are terrible and very boring. These are German opponents.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification_–_UEFA_Group_C

    Similar is in other groups.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification_(UEFA)

One extremely strong team, others are mostly average.

Sagal will remember his attempt forever.

Chile couldn't score against good German defending. Not my favorite game(probably cuz we lost), but champions gotta succeed through adversity. Chile didn't today, so Germany won. One more cup for our golden generation. Let's hope we make it to the instance.

It's important to avoid the words: "Chile has time. Time will bring another titles."

The time passes very fast. Probably the key World Cup is in front of Chile. And this Golden Generation started in World Cup 2010. Seven years passed already.

Claudio Bravo will have 35, Beausejour 34, Jara 32, Medel 30, Fuenzalida 33, Vidal 31, Hernandez 31, Marcelo Diaz 31 in Russia 2018. Maybe their last World Cup.

World Cup 2018 and Copa America 2019, key years to create new great results. Team atmosphere is visibly great, they all work hard, coach is a good expert, although he has to thank to Bielsa and Sampaoli, because they created nice style. I avoided Borghi, because his approach wasn't good at all.

That one hurt. The lack of finishing is so concerning. This story hasn't ended yet though. Hopefully we can make a nice run in Russia next year.

This team won back-to-back Copa América titles because of its midfield and defence. The midfield was again of a high standard in this Confederations Cup, and the defence was excellent. Díaz' error happens. Had Alexis scored minutes before the error, who knows? Very poor tournament from Alexis and Vargas. When your defence and midfield are doing their collective job, as a forward, you have to repay them.

Chile has been unable to capitalize in three straight finals and that should be a cause for concern.

Pizzi deserves criticism with his overall team selection for the tournament and will have to bite the bullet on this one. It's a mistake to insist on a player such as Valencia when you still have other options such as Valdivia and Fernandez who could easily come off the bench and are superior play-makers.

I still believe that this team is competitive for at least one more tournament.

Alexis wants to switch his club, this is a problem for him. Arsenal is not ambitious at all, so he deals with this also and no one wants to buy expensive older player. Bayern mentioned this for example. He should stay in Barcelona. Atmosphere in Arsenal is depressive almost 15 years, no serious titles, only FA Cup, Community Shield. And players still waste energy, efforts in such club.

Vargas, Sanchez, Hernandez could make much more.

Yes, being 2nd in this type of tournament, is still something good.

    Heck, NO.

When he has been a hero in the past, he has received all the applause he deserves, but yesterday, he blew it big, very BIG. Thanks to his stupidness, is that we lost the match.

It was not as if he would have lost the ball in a dispute; no he directly gave the germans a perfect pass leaving them alone in front of Bravo, to score. His fvck-up, must be the worse fvck-up of our national team, in the last 10 years.

can we forgive him ?, well I believe for what he has done in the past, he deserves it, but in no way we should applaude him now.:sick:

I don't mean to kick him while he's down but the team cannot afford to have mental lapses like that against top tier teams. They will punish you (case and point).

I think what upsets me the most is that I genuinely believe we were the better side before the goal happened. These were (very talented) U-23 players Chile was playing against, and yet it was the veterans, many of who have played in two finals previously, that weren't mentally ready for the game.

The way the team broke down after the goal. All the missed chances. Once again we get back to a fundamental of the game that it took Chile so many years to find: mental strength. And a part of me believes this is the start of us losing touch with that skill which makes or breaks great teams.

It pains me to say it, but the Germans deserved the win.

tough luck Chile... here are some highlights I got from the match... you may not have won the match, but definitely had the larger fan base there... they really made the experience, singing to and from the stadium on the metro, and all over the streets of Saint Petersburg:

The doubts crept into the defence after the forwards had blown key chances inside the first 20 minutes. That’s when players think, “Maybe, it’s not our day.” Diaz’ error came seconds after Alexis’ equally costly error. How does a player of his calibre miss that exactly? This is a guy who is asking for more than £400,000 a week in club football. He should have an obligation to score from there.

The worst thing that could happen to Pizzi is if he turns into a conformist. This team will not be the same one in a year from now. Injuries, form, age and other factors will impact the overall quality of the first eleven. He needs to find working solutions for every position. I liked Paulo Díaz, for example. I liked Tucu Hernández as soon as Pizzi accommodated him in a 4-4-2 diamond formation, like in the semi final.

With that said, I'm not sold on any of the forwards. Now is the time for Pizzi to tell Vargas to focus on regaining his form (somehow) in Mexico, away from the national team. I like Nico Castillo as an option too; we need someone who can just take one or two steps and shoot.

Díaz error, is in no way equally costly to Sanchez's error

Díaz error, meant our team to lose the match.

Sanchez's error, at most, would have meant our team to take the lead (the same way as when he scored during the 1st match against Germany in this cup) , which doesn´t guarantee victory, as Germany would sure have changed their atitude for the rest of the match.

We might probably not like it, but Germany played the whole match accordingly to what Chile gave them.
