Rafa, I suggest you read my posts at least three times before responding because it is obvious that you don't fully understand the point I am making. I was talking about the start - as in the beginning - of the season, not the whole season. The first 8 games are counted for both coaches.

And I am pointing this out because other coaches were being interviewed for the job. This is in reference to Vergara receiving praise for having patience not to sack a coach when results weren't there. Now, there is more to this story but it is obvious you just come here to nitpick, perhaps to feel better about yourself.

Meh, it is nice to win the league title but I had my sights set on the Copa Libertadores. I have never been a fan of the Liguilla system to crown a league champion and the split tourney is obviously meant to speed up the process of handing out trophies.

Short tournaments are lame but if we're not picking up stars then others are.

Things are directionally positive and that's OK.

Just last Thursday @Various Styles was saying Chivas was not going to be champs and now he says it was meant to happen? pinche incongruencia.

You're not enjoying it as much because you were wrong about Almeyda. You never really gave him a chance because you were upset the way Chepo was fired.

I understand clearly because I see thru your bullshit just like a blind man could. I hadn't been paying attention to the Chivas forum but it was clear and Nightmare just confirmed it

Your whole post is clearly trying to diminish Chivas title and trying to hide it with some bullshit concern. Just like in 2013 when you turned your back on the National team and tried to excuse with some concern about how it was the "directivos" and how it was going to be helpful for the National team to miss a tournament in the end because it would fix things etc etc.all of that to try to hide the fact that you were just bitter that Chepo got fired and would have rather be right than for Mexico to do well. You're being as transparent as that SpecialTalent troll who got all sanctimonious about how "it wasn't right for Chivas to win like that" with the missed PK call when the reality was clear that he was just bitter that he had to choke on his bullshit and would've rather had Chivas lost and for him to be right than for Chivas win. Same thing here.

    This

I like you @Various Styles but your love for Chepo has always been super obvious. Even when he was sucking it up with the NT in 2013 you still defended him

I think he's saying that it's not surprising...they had the better season. I think the media was just high on tigres because they were the hot team coming into the playoffs.

People were high on Tigres because they have the better squad. Not just compared to Chivas but compared to everyone. They are just the more balanced teams in terms of players. Not only were they playing well but they are stacked in many positions. They have NT caliber players on the bench. Meanwhile Chivas has to sub in Miguel Ponce. Tijuana loses Valenzuela and they are done. Plus they have Gignac who is the best player in the league.

So has there been any calls for Tuca's firing from the media? 6 finals lost since 2014 with the most stacked squad in Mexican futbol history.

To be fair people always used to make fun of Cruz Azul for that and now they would love to get to finals to lose them so you never know.

I write an article with @John Jagou called the Gentlemen's Agreement. On January 4th we made predictions before the start of the Clausura 2017 season and I had Chivas winning the title:

"Even though the Chivas comet has yet to be spotted, I will venture to say that this will be their year. Two of the top five strongest clubs, Tigres and America, will most likely suffer from no pre-season prep. Then we have Monterrey. Although they finished on a strong note, I suspect Antonio ‘Turco’ Mohamed has lost the locker room. So, that leaves my Chivas taking on either a Xolos or a Pachuca in the final."

On the Cantina MX podcast I did say that Tigres were favorites for obvious reasons. Chivas were on a 9 games win-less streak and having trouble scoring. Going into the final Cognac had more goals than the whole of Chivas combined during playoffs.

No need to consult with the stars as Liga MX is quite predictable. You just have to keep in mind certain statistics. For example: About 60% of the time one of the club's that reached the league final will not qualify for the playoffs the following season. Mexican clubs rarely do good whilst competing in more than one tourney in the same season.

There are other stats like Chivas is most likely to play a better match against America at the Azteca stadium than at home. Chivas struggles when they go into Chiapas. Pumas has not defeated Chivas in Guadalajara in over 30 years. Then you just factor in other variables (change of coach, loss of top player) and you get a good idea on how a team's season will play out.
