The preoccupation with Green is all about LD, JK and hurt feelings about the 2014 world cup. It might be about money too since there is an MLS connection. Nothing more, nothing less. It's grown men acting like 5 year old year old kids arguing over a spiderman lunchpail or whether Santa is real.
That's, like, wrong. 3 point lead with 3 games to go (one of them against 3rd placed Hanover) - only top two are promoted directly. The earliest Stuttgart could secure promotion would be the 33rd matchday.
Absolutely. Green has 10 appearances, 8 starts and 2 goals this season, with most of the appearances occurring in the second half of the season. IMO, this is the type of season that Green would have had in 2014/15 if Klinsmann hadn't interfered for the World Cup. Most US fans would have been pleased if Green had a season like this two years ago. Klinsmann deserves to get slammed over and over on this, because he directly caused 2 lost seasons for Green.
He's 21. They're talking as if he were 24. I've seen enough of Green to know he can be impressive on a good day. I expect him to do better next season.
I like that Stuttgart offers Green playing time (hopefully in 1.BL next season). I also like that he has to work to earn his minutes, which will force him to diversify and improve his game.
I am not sure, if the guy who wasn't regular at 2 BL will suddenly get more time at 1 BL, especially, since Stuttgart is one of the wealthiest teams in Germany, and can afford to go and hunt for 1 BL regulars to add to their squad before the season starts. In clubs like Stuttgart or Hannover they are not likely to keep entire starting 11 from the 2 BL once promoted, as they have enough of a name and cash to get someone better. Nevertheless, good luck to the boy.
That jerk Klinsmann gave the kid a shot in the WC and the kid scored, so, of course, the call-up ruined the next two years of Green's life. Don't you know anything about soccer?
I think that's about the right balance. When Stuttgart goes on the market this offseason, I imagine they'll try to avoid stocking up on mediocre veteran retreads such as in the manner of another underachieving "traditional club" like Hamburg, where Gisdol has been quick to dispose of the likes of Cleber, Spahic and Djourou in recent months. In contrast, VfB has shown signs of committing to youth, hiring Pulisic's old BVB U19 coach Hannes Wolf and making use of youngsters Mane, Asano, Brekalo, Green, Özcan, and Ofori to support their promotion run. My guess is that if anything Green will continue to fight for playing time with other young attackers on the squad, rather than some pricey veteran signing.
I won't pretend to know enough about Stuttgart to have any idea if you're right, but I like this narrative. I'd like to see him get some looks at striker, especially if Insua (that the lb?) is going to continue his sabotage job.
