This is not the place probably to discuss his international career at length, but to be useful for the USA at the WC he has to breakthrough at Bournemouth, or have a great loan playing at a level preferably higher than the SPL.
The Gold Cup this summer is the last true competitive tournament for the US before the WC next summer. If he is called up for the GC, and does well, then Arena might look to call him for WCQ in the fall. There is a case for him to stay with his club to try and win a spot, but there is also a chance to impress Arena. Also, this "B Team" GC is awarded the same thing as the "A Team" GC.
Or Arena could take a trip to Glasgow this week and watch him play twice against Celtic. Or at least watch on Tv. Or just invite him into the June camp and see if he can win a spot. If he impresses at the Gold Cup but then doesn't play at his club, what's the point?
The gold cup shouldn't be the only path and is not ideal in this situation. Only tangential to this thread so dropping it.
fwiw, assist called out in the Toral goal of the week tweet. Congratulations to @RangersFC star Jon Toral who wins the Ladbrokes Goal of the Week with a cracking assist from Emerson Hyndman... #Rangers pic.twitter.com/Xk8MWChwTh— Ladbrokes (@Ladbrokes) April 21, 2017
Bournemouth hammered Middlesborough 4-0 to move up to 12th on 38 points. With Swansea finally winning, they haven't pulled further away, but the Swans have to get 8 points more than Bournemouth from the next 4 games to catch them. They haven't taken 8 points from 4 all season. One more win and they're safe.
Gets the start in Cup semifinal vs Celtic at Hampden Park. Good atmosphere as always. First half Celtic up 1-0. Celtic completely dominating every aspect. Rangers first possession came in the 28', and up until the 40' Emo had maybe 1 possession and only 2-3 touches. Playing on the right mid in 442 and is mostly just chasing the LB deep defensively in his own half. Emo looks overmatched in the Old Firm games, muscled off a bit easy and a touch seems a bit nervy. Not winning any 50/50 balls. With that said, the last few minutes of the half saw some nice possessions by him, one was a nice mazy run between 4 Celtic players and laid it off for a cross. Then had some nice 1-2's with Millier at the end. 2nd half starting soon.
Well..that sucked. EH pulled in the 69' as the last sub..and probably rightfully so. Not a good game for him and very similar to his other Old Firm game. Started 2nd half in the middle this time and got on the ball a bit more, contributed a bit more. Lacks confidence in the big tight physical games, for a player you expected to boss the midfield. Seeing him match up with Scott Brown is pretty eye opening. Emo needs an open game with lots space to run in and this wasn't it, Celtic were up 2-0, I'm going back to bed. Can't comment on manager tactics but it was a shit show from the opening whistle and at least 10 different player/formation changes mid game to try to change things up. To no avail.
Didnt watch this one, but the last Celtic game it seemed like Scott Browns sole mission was to shadow Emo, and Emo struggled mightily with that constant attention.
I'd of hooked him too. He wasn't making much of an impact on the game despite a couple of bright moments.
You know where he'd get space? If there were a team who could play him behind 3 guys like Pulisic, Wood, and Johnson. Then he'd have plenty of space to show off his technique and creativity and shooting range. Someone ought to try to put those together in a lineup in some competition somewhere. Not sure what club could piece that together, though. If only...
Wins Young Player Of The Year last night at the Rangers banquet. Kenny Miller wins POTY. Had to be a bit strange with the banquet a few hours after a major ass kicking. But kudos to EH for winning the award, no doubt he earned it.
Nice piece of business to pick both those guys up on loan for a bit, but it's going to suck when they both exit stage left when the season ends.
Ratings were poor to worse.... the first didn't seem to rate many players better than EH. The second was much harsher and had him as one the worst Rangers. My view was probably somewhere in between those two takes. A 4 is probably the right number but didn't see much from anyone on the side. https://www.sundayworld.com/sport/s...beat-rangers-to-book-scottish-cup-final-place EMERSON HYNDMAN - Could not get on the ball enough and was taken off. 5 http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/sport/15240896.Rangers_ratings__How_the_Light_Blues_fared_man_by_man/ Emerson Hyndman 4 Looked like a wee boy lost against a better organised and more combative Celtic midfield. Had to do a lot of chasing. Replaced after 70 minutes by Windass.
