Word. Some of his goals are absolute beats. He has amazing ability to punk defenders and go "Beast Mode". Interesting question whether his abilities are more suited for a scrapping team like Hamburg - who need a player to make something out of nothing- or if he would flourish on a team with better possession (thus higher up the pitch and a more packed defense in front of him).
This is why bigger clubs are interested. The 1v1 ability to create and hit the back of the net off either foot, even going v two defenders with no help. And here's another off his other foot. When you can do that with no support, clubs see a player who'll do more with the ball played to his feet with superior creativity around him. It's not about goals numbers but rather the type of goals. He could get 10+ tapins and have it result in half the interest. Auba isn't scoring these types of goals...not saying he's better than Auba but this creates confidence in a buyers market and the skillset transfers to higher levels. And that's what this is all about.
I've thought BVB would be a pretty good destination for him. Even this past winter after Ramos left. He'd have gotten time behind Auba. Some games Auba was completely off and Tuchel resorted to Schurrle.....who's done jack shit. Can he be BVB's #1 while aiming for top 2 Bund finish and a repeat of the UCL QF's? Not so sure but so much of it is the confidence the buying club has in you and their patience. Vardy came out of nowhere to lead LC to EPL champs after all.
Given Auba's inefficiency in front of goal and possible selling price, I don't see BVB holding on to him. (not to mention his trip to Milan and the Nike mask thing) Bobby misses some chances, but I think he finishes as many as Auba given the creativity in the side. That said, if BVB sell Auba, they'll have money for a more proven player.
I mean, I know he has missed an odd goal here or there, but the guy has 26 goals in 27 games. I don't think inefficiency is the right word.
For crying out loud, it's the silly season. Every forward who has had a couple of good games is linked by the press to a dozen clubs that supposedly want them. There's a reason European fans in their forums have a whole area for "unsubstantiated rumors" where they put all the stuff from Bild or Daily Mail. Let's calm down, it's only at the end of May when the better rumors start making the rounds.
BVB is also in the business of getting good value for their money and what Bobby brings is well worth 12 million euros. I imagine a lot of the interest in Bobby is centered around his extremely reasonable transfer buy-out combined with his production/potential. Only 5 league goals but 4 more in the cup. Additionally, stats don't tell the whole story... the combination of pace, strength, touch and overall ability are appealing for sure.
yeah, it feels funny to type...he certainly creates opportunities that not many players can create, but it seems to me in the last couple weeks especially he has failed to hit the target in a number of big circumstances. I bet there is an Opta stat or something, that would show him off the charts for shot creation, but much closer to the mean for finished chances (all too say, I'm too lazy to look myself)
If Dortmund get Bobby, they'll suddenly become the European club of choice for millions of Americans. They would promote the F out of them stateside.
The rumor mill, could he be headed to Dortmund? Report: Borussia Dortmund interested in Bobby Wood to back-up Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang http://www.starsandstripesfc.com/us...ors-news-bobby-wood-pierre-emerick-aubameyang While Hamburg are actively seeking to extend the U.S. international’s contract at the club, they’ll have to fight off several other teams to keep him including a new entrant into the sweepstakes. According to Bild, the 24-year-old is among the wishlist of strikers that Borussia Dortmund has assembled to find a back-up for Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang. Wood’s current contract reportedly has a €12 Million release clause in it than any team can trigger. Eurosport report that Wood could be available for less than half that figure if Hamburg are relegated this season.
well to be fair i'm sure many US supporters of Euro clubs probably have 12 clubs they're backing across 4/5 leagues. Dortmund would jump to the front. Perhaps over Munich.
Comparing Wood to Aubameyang makes no sense. He would be taking the place of Adrian Ramos, as Schürrle isn't really a CF (and has been poor overall) and Isak isn't quite ready for prime time.
even being the no2 striker at Dortmund would be a step-up. getting like 25 minutes a match. Champions League, i'd love to see him there. Either stay at Hamburg or move to Dortmund for more cash but more of a super-sub.

Dortmund always has lots of minutes to go around. I am sure Bobby could play the other forward positions if they wanted him to.
Anybody ask rues how he would like bobby at the club? He doesn't seem to be moving. In his absence, they played with one up top. I am not sure where that would leave bobby, a starter w his club, should this happen.
Reus is a glass cannon. he is world class, but is available less than half the time. Dortmunds one up top is not the everyday one up top, I think there would be plenty of minutes for Bobby. I will say that Auba is one of the more clinical strikers around, even if he seems wasteful at times. I said a while back that Bobby would be a good fit at Dortmund. They like chaos creaters up front who will press high and run at the defense constantly.
Hmmm. Dortmund is a strange trade-off. Their striker needs to have very good touch on his passes. Lewy was also extremely calm and lethal in front of goal. Aube for me is a trap player and he should be sold for $100mm if they get the chance. His goals are speed and system goals, both of which can be purchased cheaply. Rolls Reus also has a nimble passing touch and a great player in general. Bobby would add a more direct dimension to the team, but he would have to work on his tight quarters passing. Maybe not an ideal fit especially with the way Teuchey likes to play with his lineups. Bobby might find himself as DM or on the bench before too long.
Is Auba really that overrated in you guys mind? I mean even if he scores tap-ins, he's had insane stats for Dortmund since arriving. Then again perhaps he's like Mario Gomez (of Bundesliga fame) in that he will score, but only due to hard work of others.
I think it is difficult to say that he has to improve, since he seldom has anybody to combine with, or anybody in a more dangerous position than him. Do you think he is not technical enough to play for BVB?
