Bummer... but in positive news: I started a PBP thread here: https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/pulisic-monaco-v-borussia-dortmund-champions-league-4-19.2043377/
Well, Reus is back and he has more experience in these type of games. If they're still down late they can pull off defensive players and add Dembele and Pulisic and go wild.
Must be going defensive here. On a brighter note, think about what CP and Dembele can do with fresh legs at the 75th minute.
i get the sub them late when the defense is tired angle, but it presupposes dortmund doesnt leak and can at least match monaco up to that point
In this situation, Dortmund need a minimum of 2 goals. It makes no sense keeping two tremendous attacking players like Pulisic and Dembele on the bench, to play them in the final 30 minutes. You can't convince me that Kagawa, Reus, and Sahin are better than Dembele, Reus, and Pulisic. Shinji Kagawa 8Nuri Sahin 33Julian Weigl 17Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang 13Raphael Guerreiro 11Marco Reus
Kagawa, Reus, and Sahin have alot of experience, and have all been in great form recently. Even Reus coming off an injury is a better option on the wings than anybody else. Kagawa was immense in the first leg, and Sahin brings control to the midfield. The youngsters will get their time.
Dembele makes a lot of mistakes, really bad ones. I can see him staying on bench unless needed badly.
Yeah - almost like they are playing for one goal first and then to bring in one or more of the youngsters to burn the jets late. It's an odd idea - playing to win late rather than playing to win early and then try to hold on. We'll see!
I see the Kagawa inclusion for sure with his form of late. Nuri Sahin is a very experienced player, but I don't know if he is more effective at this point than either CP or Dembele.
I've moved some in-game commentary posts from here to the PBP thread that @wixson7 started before the match.
i don't think you need to worry. i have a feeling bvb will be looking for a new manager within a year.
Tuchel embarrassed himself in this tie, both games. And he's 4th in the Bundesliga. I don't think he warrants serious consideration for dismissal given his overall commitment to youth, which should ultimately pay dividends, but the talks about him getting poached by an even bigger club should be a probably will be put to a stop now. And eventually he will get canned if he doesn't cease the tactical and player selection mistakes he makes in big games.
I agree. He hasn't been bad this year or anything, but his biggest accomplishment was getting 2 draws against real Madrid. Next year, he needs to have them finish #2 in the bundesliga and go out in cl (assuming they qualify) to a clearly superior team in the knockout stage or he deserves to be on the hot seat.
